Alice hadn't put the test stick down. She still intended to go to the clinic, but she'd sent FP to the store for a home pregnancy test. She'd felt very much like she'd felt back in high school, though she was grateful she wasn't hiding in a high school bathroom taking her test alone this time. FP was right there with her, and he'd held her hand while they waited for the results with nervous apprehension as if they didn't know what the result was going to be. Neither expected a negative result, they both knew it was going to be positive.

Knowing the result and seeing it were two entirely different things. Alice felt a well spring of emotion at the little plus sign. She kissed him impulsively, her arms thrown around his neck. She'd calmed down a bit, but she held on to the stick, almost afraid the whole thing would go away if she dared to put the proof of it down.

"You're really not upset, are you?" she asked him, her tone cautious. She had borne her previous two children in a loveless marriage. Hal had wanted to try again for a boy, but Alice had been reluctant to try again after Elizabeth had been born. She had considered herself done. She didn't want any more children. She wanted this one, the one she carried now, more than she had ever wanted anything in her life.

"No, babe, I'm not upset at all," FP said softly, as he pressed his lips to hers once more. "I'm just glad it's a baby, and not anything serious like that other girl suggested." He ghosted a hand down her side to settle at her abdomen. "We're still going to the clinic, right? To make sure you and the little one are okay?"

"Gladys never went to a single appointment for either of the kids," he said. "Even when we had the money."

"I just want the two of you to be okay."

"No, once I thought about it I realised it's a baby," Alice said. She glanced at the stick still in her hand, and smiled. "I can't believe we're having a baby," she grinned. "It's like, it's a dream come true, honestly."

She took his hand in hers, and pressed it against her stomach. Of course there was nothing to feel yet, but they both knew there was a baby in there. Their baby.

He dropped a kiss to the top of her head. "That's a thing that happens right? Not just on TV?" He wished that the baby was big enough to feel. "You want anything? To eat? Drink?" "I love you too." She looked up at him with a quirky grin. She did love him, and she hated that she'd wasted twenty-five years with Harold instead of staying with him. If she'd just told him about the baby the first time she'd been pregnant...But she hadn't and there was no going back now.

She reached for his hand and gave his palm a squeeze. "Yeah, babe. We'll get an ultrasound and you can see the baby on the monitor. That's a thing that really happens." She wasn't really surprised he hadn't seen Jughead or Jellybean when they were in utero. Ultrasounds didn't seem like something Gladys would have bothered with.

"I wish you could get me a burger and onion rings from Pops," Alice said. "But I know that's impossible." The diner was kind of out of their reach in Goodland. But the thought of one of Pop's burgers had her almost salivating.

"I think that would be really awesome," he admitted, and he grinned down at her. "Getting to see the baby and everything." He squeezed her hand. "Want to make sure you and the little bean are doing okay."

"I could put my skills to good use?" FP really didn't like to remind himself that he'd worked at the diner, but, for the sake of Alice and their baby, he was willing to. "It's not the same, but..."

	"I know it won't be the same," Alice said. "But I love that you're willing to try. I'm sure it'll be good even if it's not Pops." She gave him a soft, sincere smile. "I love you, babe. "I don't think it sounds terrible," Alice said. Her only regret was that her daughters weren't in Goodland with her. Things were strained between her and Elizabeth, but that was really par for the course. She still missed her, and wished she was there if not for her sake, then for Jughead's.

"I don't care where we are, I just want to be with you." She curled her fingers in his hair as he kissed her very slight baby bump.
