Luxanna Crownguard & Jughead Jones
What: A random encounter
Where: Central Park
When: Saturday
Warnings: Not likely, will update if necessary
Jughead had never been one to sit home and do nothing. Maybe it came from living in a one bedroom trailer when he was small, to leaving that behind and crashing in the drive in's office when he worked there. He'd always had a hard time sitting still, and he wasn't about to start now. After breakfast, which Alice insisted on preparing every morning, he'd packed a few snacks and a notebook in a backpack and headed out to enjoy the day.

He'd walked around the city for a while, and eventually made his way to Central Park. He'd never been to the real Central Park, so the Goodland version was good enough for him. It was eerily quiet, though, because he had a mental image of Central Park bustling with people most any time of day. There were a few people around, and Jughead was polite enough to nod to people when eye contact was accidentally established. For the most part, though, he kept his head down, his eyes and ears open as he walked.

Finding a spot he thought would be a good place to take a break and have a snack, he was prepared to more or less avoid the person already in the area. Until he saw it was someone he knew. He didn't know Lux well, but they were acquainted. "Hey," he said, giving her a friendly wave that was sincere and not born of social niceties. "How's it going?"

Lux loved the parks. Maybe it was the fact that, if she laid in the grass just right and stared up at the sky in just the right position, she could imagine she was at home in her own world, lying on the grass and staring at the sky like she had so many times before. If she tried just hard enough, she could forget she was away from her family and everything she knew. Or maybe it just felt nice to be out in the world, with the fresh air and space to roam. The apartments were crowded and the buildings were typically small. Cafes were cozy but Lux was used to having so much more room. There were no glass windows, the air was always circulating.

This world was just so stuffy.

So it was like this - sprawled out on the grass with a mess of blonde curls around her like a halo, that Jughead found her. Staring at the sky and humming to herself, music playing faintly audible from the one earbud that dangled loosely beside her. It took her a second to realize the voice coming through was talking to her, and she sat up, eyes eventually finding Jughead. "Oh!" She ripped the other earbud out of her ear, a bright smile coming across her features.

"Hi Jughead! It's going pretty well I think, I was missing home so I decided to go for a walk and usually when I go for a walk I end up here or at another park or something because they remind me most of home. You know, with how open they are. Back home there weren't so many buildings, even in the big cities - which by the way, aren't that big in comparison to this place. It's almost funny when I think about it! But it feels stuffy here and I wanted to get out and not feel so stir crazy I guess. How's it going for you?" Perpetually an oversharer, it didn't seem to cross her mind at all that most people didn't talk like that. She knew most people did not talk like that, but she did, and she saw nothing wrong with it.

She did tend to talk a lot, and while Jughead was definitely not inclined to ramble like she was, he didn't mind it. She had a lot on her mind, apparently, and it just slipped out with her words. I anything, he supposed he was a little bit jealous of her carefree attitude. He was just better at writing, not speaking.

"Okay, no complaints." Well, he had a few. He wished Betty was here. Archie. What would be really awesome would be his sister showing up. But not if their mother came with her. He wasn't sure how he felt about his mom, but she wasn't winning any mother of the year awards with him back home. Plus her arrival in Goodland would really ruck things up for his dad and Alice. They seemed to be getting closer by the day. He was just waiting for the moment they both came stumbling out of the same bedroom.

But he'd really rather not think about that. He slung his bag down off his shoulder, because what better distraction was there, than food? "Mind if I sit?" he asked her, but he said without waiting for an invite. "I have snacks, if you're hungry."

That was just Lux. She didn't sit still very often and when she did, she was still doing something. If anyone was within ten feet of her she would be talking to them - hell, even farther. She'd been known to yell across a room or two to have a conversation. Her family always used to make fun of her for it. Well, her brother did. Her parents looked at her judgingly. She had never really been a proper princess the way they would have liked.

"Well that's good! I feel like a lot of people probably complain here - I mean I've seen it on the, what's it called? Network thing? I see it there sometimes, but like, I don't know I just feel like we should be making the most of this experience." She was still almost certainly operating under the assumption they would be going home at some point, even though that hadn't been even hinted at.

Her face brightened up at snacks. "Absolutely, go ahead. I love snacks, what kind do you have? I brought snacks too!" Lux literally never went anywhere without some food on her now. "I got cupcakes! And beef jerkey." Not exactly the best mix of snacks to eat, but the beef jerkey sort of reminded Lux of home. The cupcakes were new to her. They weren't even good cupcakes, which was obvious as she retrieved the package of hostess cupcakes from her bag. "You can have the other one if you want!"

"I agree. I mean, I could come up with some things to complain about, sure. But I'm with you. I'm trying to make the most of it. Complaining doesn't really get you anywhere anyway," he shrugged. He had faced hardship, he'd faced not knowing where his next meal was coming from. He wasn't going to complain about having a warm bed and food on the table and a roof over his head. Even if there were some things he wished were different.

"Hey, thanks." He reached for the second cupcake. Prepackaged or not, he was not one to turn down cupcakes. "I have peanut butter crackers and cookies and cashews," he told her. He liked to have a variety of things, especially when hamburgers weren't available. Hamburgers were his absolute favorite food.

"I like it here. I mean, it's not home. But it seems like a decent place to make a home." It helped that his dad was here. And Mrs Cooper. Though he missed Betty and Archie, Toni, and the other younger Serpents.

"Hey, that's how I think of it too!" It wasn't very typical for Lux to meet someone who shared any sort of her same thoughts or feelings. She was so, perpetually, annoying optimistic that complaining or feeling down was nearly impossible for her. Sometimes she'd run out of energy and shut down, but even then, she'd come right back up with the same sort of zest for life that she always had.

She handed over the cupcake, eyes going wide at cookies. "Oh, oh I had cookies here! I know those, what kind do you have? What's a peanut butter cracker? Cashews I know, I don't like those." She scrunched her nose a little, and pulled out two packs of beef jerkey, quickly opening one up. "Oh, this doesn't smell like the beef jerkey we made back home." She said, frowning, and tentatively taking out a piece to try.

"I like it here too." She said, before biting into the beef jerkey and tentatively chewing it. After a long while, she shrugged and picked up another piece. "It's very different, even the same food is different like this beef jerkey which is the same kind of thing as back home but different smell and different taste, but I like stand-up showers and liquid soap and televisions. Oh, and toasters, toasters are really cool."

Jughead wasn't always so optimistic. But he was trying to keep a positive mindset. it would be too easy to sink into depression if he let himself think the negative thoughts. So he tried to avoid it.

"I have chocolate chip cookies," he told her. "Alice made them this morning. She's...she's my girlfriend's mom. She's here, but Betty isn't. But she's a really good cook." He handed over a pair of cookies, because it was impossible to eat just one.

"Peanut butter crackers, it's crackers with peanut butter between them." He handed her a couple of those too. "And you know. I've never really thought about how amazing toasters are, but I totally agree about the showers and the television."
