WHEN Thursday
As per usual, Hawkeyes make bad decisions with good intentions.
WARNINGS Fighting. Injuries. Robot stomping. Maybe some feels. Arrows. Batons.
Something was most certainly sprained. Maybe it was just twisted. She could manage either way, but it would be slow. The robots? They were fast. Faster than Kate had anticipated when she made the decision to get a few items. Supplies weren't low, but it was better to be prepared. If things got worse, if the robots got worse, it would be necessary.
Prior to making her way out, Kate had been responsible. She had left a note in the apartment she shared with Belle and Elsa, promising Belle that she would be fine. She would be back. Kate had left Lucky there to keep an eye on them and others as well.
She had even messaged Matt. Why? Truthfully, Kate still wasn't sure about that. It had been a last minute decision before leaving the building. A literal hard stop at the door after saving an ostrich from a robot and sent the text.
"Getting a few things. Lucky's protecting the royals. Might even bring a PSL back. Hashtag Hero Things. Purple Heart emoji."
The last bit made Kate exceptionally proud of herself. She was getting better at not sending gifs or emoji responses.
What she was not getting better at was bringing back-up. Johnny and Ramone had always gotten on her about it. Clint and the other West Coast Avengers, too. It was a terrible habit, but one Kate found it hard to shake. Back-up or help meant putting others in danger and Kate? She wasn't about that. Protecting others. Keeping them safe. That was what she did, her own safety be damned apparently.
For as small as they were, they packed a nasty punch...blast thing. Her right side was stinging but it was manageable. Maybe the hip holes weren't the best idea regardless of how fashionable they proved to be. Using her bow to get herself to her feet, Kate let out a heavy breath. Adjusting her weight from one foot to the other, testing the proverbial waters, it was okay. Again, manageable.
The robots, the damn tiny terrors, were clamoring about around the corner of the building she'd use to take cover. Kate didn't have to worry about arrows thanks to Ernie. She could slow them down and make it back to the apartment building without too much else, right?
...Right. Of course.
Grabbing three arrows from the quiver, Kate nocked them and pushed herself to practically swing around the corner and fired them off. One sparked and exploded into a mess of metal and robot parts. The second began to bubble and and absorb a group of robots into a sticky foam. The third shorted a few out, but there were plenty stomping about still.
It gave her time, though. She thought so anyway.
If she hadn't had the slight limp and the burning pain in her side, it would have been okay. Kate wouldn't have been punching a robot from jumping onto her shoulder. She also wouldn't have been kicking another from climbing up her leg.
