Who: Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes
Where: The Park (That is mostly Central)
When: Saturday Morning
What: A run. The usual. These two.
Warnings: I...don't even know. Will update if needed!

It certainly wasn't the Hawaiian coast line but it was closer to that sense of home. There was an odd comfort in the trees lining the park's path completed by the benches and the right amount of litter that reminded you of where you were.

Steve did his best not to stop at every waste basket to pick up forgotten pages of news to toss away. Once a boy scout, always a boy scout.

He could keep pace with Bucky fairly well, which wasn't a surprise. Super Soldier Serum was good for that. Sam could always keep his footing well enough, even if Steve easily lapped him. He would have been lying if he didn't find enjoyment in every single one.

Moving at an easy pace, easy for the infamous Captain America, Steve shot a glance over toward his friend. "Want to tell me what those cardboard cut-outs were all about?" He grinned, chuckling through each breath in and out. "It's a shame they disappeared. I thought they added something to the place. I think the ostriches liked them, too."

Each time Steve did stop and pick up the trash along their route, all Bucky could do was shake his head with a small smile. It was just so Steve, the skinny guy he knew 70 years ago was still there underneath all the fighting and super soldier serum. It was one of things that helped keep Bucky more at ease. Still, even if he was cleaning up the city one newspaper page at a time, Bucky kept up his run and let Steve catch up to him each time.

They'd been moving at a steady pace for a while, though, when Bucky raised a brow and glanced over to Steve. He let out a light laugh. He'd seen the cut-outs coming; hell, they'd even joked about it right after showing up in Hawaii. Seeing them staring back at him in the middle of the lobby had made him realize that he probably should watch his jokes from now on. Or just figure out a way to repay the favor.

"Those were a gift from Stark the junior. Morgan thinks she's funnier than she really is." Not that it wasn't funny. Bucky did get a laugh out of it even if he might have preferred it be at someone else's expense. He figured that saying they were a Stark prank probably covered most of the 'why' questions Steve might have.

He gave a half shrug. "I wouldn't put it past her to let them re-emerge at some point, but they're gone and never to be seen again. For now."

It was hard to hide his laugh this time. Coming to a stop, Steve nearly doubled over with a good, healthy laugh. Of course, it would have been a Stark behind that madness.

His hands on his knees, Steve let out a final chuckle before he straightened. "Oh, Buck. I should have warned you. You know how those Starks can be." In another time and probably a different lifetime, that could have meant many things. Now, though, it could all be focused on the good that they all had. Even if it would always take some work.

"I wouldn't either. I hope you hid them even though I'm sure she'll find them. If she doesn't, one of the kids will." Kids, teens, young adults; children that belonged to any of them from this world or another. Giving Bucky's shoulder a pat, Steve took up a brisk walk instead of a full jog. A few snickers still escaped from under his breath.

"Did we at least keep one for the apartment?" It felt good to laugh and joke with Bucky like they used to do. They had a lot of lost time to make up for after all.

Stopping a few steps after Steve, Bucky turned back in time to see his friend having a good laugh. He shook his head with a half roll of his eyes and watched Steve with some amusement on his face. "This one has a shade of diabolical in her eyes, so watch out."

Hid them? Sure, Bucky had hid them. Or folded them up and stashed them somewhere out of the Villa — and the gym. As fun as the back and forth jokes were, he still didn't want to greet his cardboard face or dressed in a Hawaiian shirt every morning in the lobby. He just smirked. "She won't find these, but until I pry the original away, there's always a chance for a second round."

"Nope," he said and matched the new pace. "That's all I need. Billy or James deciding to dress me up in some kind of get-up for the day." Okay, maybe not James, but he wasn't sure about if Billy would or not. Bucky cast Steve a side glance. "You'll have to consult the maker if you want one for company."

They came around a bend in the pathway and to the left was a group of bushes. At first Bucky didn't pay any attention to them, but as they got closer, he thought he heard a rustle. His logical mind told him that it was just a bird, squirrel, or another animal in the bushes, but his other senses had a strange feeling about what he'd heard.

"Did you hear that?" He asked Steve, nodding to the bush. "Probably a squirrel." Or so he wished.

Steve wasn't much of a practical joker by nature but he was picking up some tips and tricks along the way. He was almost certain he could convince Morgan to set them up again. Getting Bucky to hint on the location of the original? That would be difficult. That, alone, would most likely take an army.

Pausing at the rustling sounds as well, Steve followed Bucky's gaze and nodded. "Squirrel or not, I'd question any wildlife that lives around here." It was a miracle the trees and flowers didn't burst out into song every now and again all things considered. Even during the quiet and relaxed periods, Steve found himself always prepared for something rather than nothing.

Taking a few cautious steps over toward the noise, Steve pushed aside a few branches before taking an amusing tumble backward. Catching Steve off guard in such a manner was almost impossible. The dash of black, white, and pink was pretty quick, though. Rubbing a hand against his cheek, a comical pair of red lips staining it, Steve twisted enough to look back toward Bucky.

"Buck! At your six!"

On one hand, it wasn't like he'd never seen any wildlife here in the park during his runs or walks since he'd shown up. He'd not really paid any of them any attention unless it was watching the dire wolves chase around a squirrel or bird, but on the other hand... Steve had a point. He'd seen too many weird things not to question the rustling in the bushes.

Especially when said rustling turned out not to be any kind of squirrel he'd ever seen and jumped out straight at him.

Bucky went to duck out of the way, but whatever it was managed to wrap itself around his neck and tried to lick — no wait. That wasn't a lick, it was an over the top, loud kiss on the cheek. As soon as he realized what was happening, Bucky used his metal arm to forcibly pull the thing off of him, but somehow it was a lot stronger than it looked.

"Hellooooo Soldier!" It sing-songed and batted its eyes at him. Bucky was holding the thing by its neck away from him and looked over at Steve with a mix of shock and borderline horror.

"What the hell is this thing?"
