Even though Lissa had only been in this new world a matter of a few weeks, it somehow felt like a lot longer. Maybe it was the recent trip into space - actual space - that caused her to feel so far removed from the familiarity of home and of Court. Whatever it was, once they arrived back in this strange version of Manhattan, Lissa knew she needed to find something to keep herself busy. If Rose had been here on and off for the better part of a couple of years then there was no telling how long she might be here whether it be a few more days, weeks, or months. She'd been preparing herself to begin the true life of being Princess Dragomir and all that came with it, but here? Her world was wide open... more or less or within the twenty-something square miles of the island.
One thing was for sure: Lissa had always expressed the desire to further her education at one of the human universities. Queen Tatiana had initially objected, but Lissa had been able to secure a place at Lehigh thanks to it proximity to the Moroi Court. Her area of study of course was to be related to her position on the Council, but now her choices were practically unlimited. It was a little overwhelming at first, but after meeting with a couple of admissions advisors at both Columbia and NYU, she had at least managed to narrow down her options to a few areas.
The largest problem with being in Goodland was getting used to the daylight schedule of the human world. The sun didn't harm her like most other vampires, but she found herself growing tired under the bright and cloudless sky. She'd set out earlier that morning but by the time she'd finished up her interviews, the sun was high in the sky. The hat she wore did help some, but Lissa knew her face likely had started to look flushed. She probably shouldn't have taken the time to stop for an iced coffee on the way, but it did at least help cool her off a bit.
The brochures and papers she carried under her arm were beginning to come loose, and she fumbled a bit to readjust but a few papers slipped from her fingers and she reached forward to try to catch them from falling to the ground. With her head down and her hat blocking her view, Lissa didn't see the person walking towards her. As soon as she accidentally bumped into them, she let out a light oomph and her hat fell from her head.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she apologized. "I probably should try to look where I'm going."
