Cassie's Arrival
WHO: Cassie Lang & Bruce Banner
WHERE: The ship
WHEN: Thursday morning
WHAT: Arriving
RATING: Low
STATUS: Threading

Cassie woke up in a strange room and was immediately smacked in the face with her letter. She read it several times. It said something about Goodland and had a map that looked like New York City. It said she had a guardian named Daisy. However, it did not say anything about being on a spaceship. Was she kidnapped? Was it Yellow Jacket? She probably should have been scared, but she was mostly curious, which was why she tiptoed out of her room in her pajamas and started looking around.

No one looked like they were trying to kill her. No, everyone looked...normal. The ostriches and tribbles, however, were definitely not normal. She frowned and made her way to the main area where she found a chair and stood on it. "EXCUSE ME? CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE? IS THIS AN AVENGER THING?"

Bruce was absolutely loving this particular space voyage. He was not huge and green and not in control of his own body, for one. And his friends were all there. And it seemed safe. Safe enough anyway. Lyra was still apprehensive and Tony was definitely not thrilled but so far, all seemed well.

Until a very small girl interrupted a very boring trip back from breakfast. She was dark haired, couldn't have been more than thirteen or so, and very...well, loud.

But Avenger things he knew, so he may as well help out? "First day?" he asked with a smile. It always weirded him out a little when the Entity dropped off kids. Not that he was complaining. His life would be so much darker without Lyra and now he had Pym to keep him on his toes. But it was still such a strange choice. "Not an Avengers thing. Well. A lot of them are here. But they're, well, we're not why we're here." A lot of the time, Bruce absolutely still considered Hulk an Avenger, but not himself.

Cassie turned to the man who had spoken. It took her a minute, but she finally realized why she recognized him. "You are Dr. Bruce Banner," she announced. "I've seen your photo on the news." She jumped off the chair. "I'm Cassie Lang. Are you sure the Avengers didn't do this? They do a lot."

His eyebrows lifted a bit, but it made sense. Between scientific advancements and, well, the not so positive events of his life, he supposed his name had gotten out there. "I am. You can call me Bruce. All the kids here do." Except the ones he'd been lucky enough to get Uncle Bruce out of, and the very special one that called him Daddy.

She was a very tiny spitfire and that was obvious from the get-go. "Lang? Like Scott Lang?" He hadn't been lucky enough to meet the man in person in his time, but Bruce did know what waited for him in his future. "Hi, Cassie. I promise, not it this time. If it was, Tony would know. And be annoyed about it, most likely."

Her earnest expression dissolved into a somber one when he mentioned her father. "He is...was my dad," she told him. "He was the best there ever was." She cocked her head. "Did you know him? He was a superhero too."

Fortunately for Cassie, she'd run into not only a genius, but a genius who knew their world fairly well. Between what he'd pieced together from his friends' experiences and what he'd learned from those weird fortune cookies, he actually did have some answers. "I kind of do. He's a pretty great hero. What's the last thing you remember from home, Cassie? I can't remember if the letter says anything, it's been forever, does it mention time travel? A lot of us from our world are here, we're all from different points in time. We think it's like a pocket dimension, outside of our actual world."

She brightened when he complimented her dad. She worshiped Scott and missed him terribly, but it was good knowing other people saw how awesome he had been. "Home...home is not good," she admitted. "Everyone is...well, half of everyone is gone. You know. The blip." She shrugged. "Time travel? Like Back to the Future?"

Okay. Okay, this was good. Sort of. "Yeah. I remember the...blip. We, well, most of us from when I'm from, we're still calling it the Snap." He hesitated. She deserved to know, even if Scott wasn't here anymore. "You want to sit down and talk? Or I can give you a tour of the place. We're not usually in space, to be honest, this is new and a little weird." But so cool. "Usually we live in an alternate version of New York City."

"This sounds serious," Cassie said. Whenever anyone offered to "sit down and talk" it was serious. She looked down at her pajamas. Goodness knew how many people already saw her in them anyway. "We can walk around." She wasn't sure she could sit still. Well, at least she was wearing socks. "The map showed something like New York," she informed him. "But this is definitely nothing like the map." Perhaps she should have been more surprised by the events, but she'd live through quite a few weird things in her young life. "Is this permanent then? The space ship?"

He couldn't help grinning when she realized what she'd been wearing during her declaration on the chair. "You can go change if you want?" Though hey, at least she was comfortable. "The least they could do is give us a gift shop on a space ship. But no, it's probably not permanent. The thing that brings everyone here - the Entity, I think it signed your letter? It has some really weird powers. At least you're here for space travel and not like the time we all went to summer camp."

"Summer camp doesn't sound so bad," she said. "And I'm good. I don't need to change." She'd rather hear what Bruce had to say. Her head was spinning with information, but it was hard to throw her since she grew up in a world filled with superheroes and aliens. "So this entity thing brings us from all different places and...times?" She cocked her head. "My dad...he is not here, is he?" It was too much to hope for.

"If you're sure." The ship should be pretty safe for walking. If she wanted to go visit a planet or something, that was definitely going to require shoes at least. "Unfortunately not. But you're catching on quick. He was here for a while. And I learned an awful lot, Cassie." Logically he knew she wouldn't remember any of this if she was returned home, but he felt like she deserved at least that glimmer of hope. "Cassie, your dad never blipped out. He was safe the whole time. Did he ever tell you about something called the quantum realm?"

Cassie's head snapped up when he mentioned Scott had been in the same pocket dimension she now was; that meant there was hope, right? "He never...he was safe..." She shook her head. "He'd visit me," she insisted. "What are you talking about? Are you...wait. Are you saying my dad was in the quantum realm?" She was smart and she was nosy so she knew a lot about Scott's background in science.

There it was. Any kid of Scott's had to be pretty smart, and it didn't take long for the realization to hit her. "He was. He definitely wouldn't have left you on purpose, Cassie, you know that." At least, he hoped she did. Bruce didn't know Scott well, but he did know that man loved his kid. "He was stuck in there when his friends got...blipped out." Even the word was weird to say. "There was no one to bring him back, no one else even knew he was in there, I guess." Not that Bruce wouldn't have loved to get his hands on that project, but that was a regret for another time, not when dealing with a grieving child.

The idea fascinated her and she wished she could talk to Scott about it. Still, the idea of her poor dad trapped there...

"Does he ever get out?" She asked. She couldn't bear the idea of Scott being trapped in the quantum realm forever.

That he was happy to be able to answer. "He does, kiddo. He gets out and he helps save the world. All those people who were taken away? They come back. And it's because of your dad." Bruce knew good and damn well if it had been up to him to figure out the time travel, they'd have needed another five years at least. Tony had been vital, of course. But without Scott, would any of them even have had the idea?

Cassie didn't say anything for a moment. She always hoped the blipped would somehow return, but hearing they finally did? Hearing her dad came back? It was still monumental news. "Oh, Dr. Bruce!" She couldn't help it. She threw her arms around him. "I always hoped they'd all come back, you know! That Dad would come back and these things only happen on t.v., but...oh! This is awesome!" Her dad was a bonafide hero. He deserved nothing less.

She was a kid, and one who had just been taken from her home and found out a dad she thought was dead was not only not dead, but was also a hero. Of course she was going to get a good, comforting squeeze in return. "You want to know what the very first thing he did when he got out of the quantum realm was?" This part he knew. Obviously he'd eventually made his way to the Avengers compound and found Nat and Steve but the important part, and the one that mattered the most to the little girl beside him, came first.

The hug felt good, even from a stranger. There was something comforting about Dr. Bruce. She stepped back and looked up with a grin. "What?"

"He went to your mom's house to find you. Because he worried about you the whole time." And to find her five years older? God, that had to be traumatic.

Then again, Bruce had been surprised with an already six year-old. So. What did he know about kids at weird ages?

"That is what he does. Worry about me. And Hope." She wondered about Hope too. "Does that mean Hope comes back too? She was blipped so she did, right?"

Hope he was even less familiar with. Except that goofy smile on Scott's face when her name came up. But if Wanda and Peter and the others had all come back, then she must have? "I'm sure she did. It was probably really weird for a while, getting settled again, but they're definitely back."

"Good. And there is a chance they'll come here so...yeah, it's good!" She pushed her hair behind her shoulders. It must have been a mess, but she didn't care. "Thank you, Dr. Bruce. Do you think you can show me where to get something to eat?"

Oh, she was good. A lot of kids would have been freaking out, but she was taking it all in stride. "Definitely. Usually you'll have a kitchen in your apartment - are you on the kids' floor? That'll make a difference. But here we all share one, like a mess hall." Okay, maybe basically being on the set of Star Trek wasn't perfect. "Come on, it's this way."
