Who: Quentin Coldwater & Lila Barton
What: Fighting monsters, sort of
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: Couple blocks over from the villas
Warnings: Monsters, injuries, etc. (note- basic thoughts here)

Quentin knew that he probably shouldn't have been out alone. There had been reports all over of the monsters, creatures, or whatever the hell these things were. He didn't have a fucking clue where they were coming from, but with each day, more and more could be seen outside on the streets. Those with extra powers or the ones who were a little more sturdier than others were already out there. Quentin had no plans to veer away from the villa too far so that he could get back quick if needed, but after he'd made his decision to go, he was descending the stairs quickly and out the door within a minute. When they'd first started popping up a couple days ago, Quentin had managed to knock one or two of them out on his way home, so he knew he could disable them if he had to. He just couldn't sit on his hands any longer and do nothing.

From the look and sound of things, they weren't impervious to magic or even blunt force trauma, so in addition to having his magic, he carried a baseball bat with him that had made its way into the apartment somehow. It was daylight, but he still crept on by quietly along the street, trying to stay close to buildings as much as he could to at least not be super obvious that he was there. Good plan, right? Yeah, right. A scream caught his attention, so Quentin abandoned the slow pace and jogged down the block, making a right turn only to see someone he didn't know running towards him. With at least five or six or more of the monsters rushing the both of them.

"Oh, shit!" exclaimed Quentin, quickly retreating and darted back around the corner. The screamer had left him, and there was no way he'd be able to take on this many at once and get back to the villa unscathed. He held the bat tight in his hands, but as he heard the monsters barreling down the street about to converge, a sudden, random, and probably a really fucking stupid plan popped in his head. Later, he'd blame the music he'd been listening to earlier, but right now he went with his gut and started working the spell with his hands. His fingers contorted to the appropriate shapes and movements, but Quentin held off for just a moment to finish the spell before suddenly moving out into the open street right in the monsters' path. God, these things were ugly as fuck.

With a strong motion forward with his hands, magic shot out of him towards the monsters but also up into the air. At first it was hard to tell if the spell had worked or at least if it had any affect on the monsters, but a second or so later and they stopped short and looked around, dumbfounded. Then the distinct sound of music began to play, and he could have sworn that the monsters were paying attention to the music.

It had been a while since he'd cast a spell like this, but so far it was working. Just as he started to sing, he also picked up the bat and was gearing up to make his move to knock them out one by one so he could get the hell out of there.

Lila was on her way back to the villas. She'd told Nate she would come back frequently, and she would be damned if she broke her word to him. Empty promises were second nature to her, except for when it came to her brother. Not that she would readily admit that aloud, but that was the beauty of her relationship with the youngest Barton. She didn't have to say it, because he already knew.

Leaping from the rooftops, she was only a couple of blocks from home when she heard the screams. Shit. Technically she could have ignored it, but instead of continuing on her way? Lila drew an explosive arrow from her quiver and patrolled the edge of the roof looking for the source of the scream. Imagine her surprise when she didn't find an attack happening- at least not at that moment.

"What the fuck?"

Returning the arrow to its proper place, it took her a couple of seconds of staring at the dumbfounded monsters before her eyes settled on their singing puppet master. "Of course," she said to herself and couldn't help the amused grin that spread across her features before she leaped onto the opposing fire escape and began the descent to the show happening below.

Normally she wouldn't leave the higher ground, but this display required immediate closer inspection. Lila didn't know much about magic other than encountering it occasionally in the field, but Quentin was overwhelmed and if for some reason whatever the hell he was doing didn't last? He would need back-up.

Ditching the bow onto her back, in favor of the Glock hidden on her person, Lila was careful not to get close to any of the monsters in case it fucked with Q's spell. "Nice pipes," she said as she slid into place beside him- gun pointed at the targets in question.

Quentin was standing in the middle of the street singing the Beatles, and there was probably one person in all of Goodland that might have not thought he looked completely crazy. That person happened to be the eerie look-a-like to the person who'd just walked up to see him as a monster maestro. There was only a brief second when he wondered if this was Julia, but he'd been around Lila enough that he could easily tell the two women apart. And when in doubt? The bow was a dead giveaway.

He may have been the floppy-haired, nerd king of his friends from home, but he was at least a self-aware nerd king. So, yes, Quentin knew how ridiculous he looked. He gave Lila a look, trying to back away from the dancing monsters towards her in such a way that they didn't follow him. He still had the bat tucked against him, ready and willing to use it if shit went sideways.

And well, face it. Shit had a really fucking high chance of going sideways.

The fact that the song was working towards its end didn't cross Quentin's mind right away. Most of the songs they'd sung like this during their random musical numbers at home were longer than your average Beatles song. He'd gotten to the second mention of 'And now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors', and he managed to add onto the spell that the monsters kept going even after he stopped.

"You might be surprised how often musical numbers got us out of jams at home," he said in a low voice once he was beside her. "But this time I think I like your version better." Quentin nodded to the gun she was holding and pointed at the monsters.

And just about that time, the last help me, help me, ooh sounded, and the spell faded away. The monsters didn't outright attack but they acted confused when the music and dancing stopped. "Oh fuck, I forgot how short these songs were," he exclaimed right about the time they shifted their focus on the two humans right in front of them.
