Emma's altruism only went so far. And this was largely not where it went to. However, with Morgan and her young brother at the building, Emma felt it was selfish enough for her to remain near there and direction monsters away, or kill them outright.

They did seem to spawn at an alarming rate. The more they were killed the more seemed to appear, which was, undoubtedly, going to become highly unmanagable very quickly. Goodland wasn't big by any stretch of the imagination. The more monsters that spawned the less space they'd have.

There were fires burning in numerous places; from attacks, from monsters, from the damage to cars and buildings, but Emma stood fast in maintaining a space aroun the apartments to be sure that nothing got too close.

The crack and pop of something hitting a building caught her attention, dust hitting the air from nearby just as she caught the sign of a row of buildings coming down, a collision setting off the domino effect. Not that she bothered too much, until she noticed where one specific part of building as about to land.

"Derek," the plum of smoke engulfed her just as the bricks fell, Emma too slow to reach the other side of the park before the building landed, ended up standing on top of the debris rather than intervening. "Shit."

The timing in all this could've been better.

Between Allison's re-arrival, the injury, Derek struggling to sleep, sticking close to the hospital just in case, for whatever reason. Without any of the others here, he knew it was down to him to try harder. A struggle on a good day, never mind when monsters were attacking.

He didn't want to worry that this was too soon, and frankly, he wasn't the person to tell Allison what to do anyway, but it didn't stop him being sure that it was too soon for her to be out of the hospital.

The benefit was, obviously, working through emotions with violence, which he was used to. Trying to help keep the area clear of these things while processing the guilt and worry and conflict of everything else that was going on.

Until he heard the shake, bricks falling and---

Wrong place, wrong time seemed to be a real problem for him.

There was pain just about everywhere. His shoulder was particularly painful, although in the dark he couldn't tell why, he was fairly certain there was something significantly wrong with that. Trying to push up got him exactly nowhere. Dust falling down from around his head, the ground shifting below him.

This likely wasn't good.

Ideally, she'd be able to just reconstruct the building, put things where they were meant to be, but the issue with that was putting Derek where he was meant to be and if there would be interference with where he was. The only sensible alternative was to rebuild part of the structure, find Derek and teleport them somewhere else instead.

Reconstructing the upperhalf of the building, with a slight overhang allowed Emma to clear a fair amount of the debris, larger chunks pulling themselves upwards and affixing somewhere overhead. There was still an annoying amount of mess to push through; fallen furniture, an entire floor, all littering around the area.

"This could be easier." A wave of her hand towards some bricks had them stacking up towards the left of her, some concrete joining them momentarily later, some rebar, dry wall, until she had something like a monster of her own make from random crap that was left around. "Get digging." At least it could start pulling things off the mound, looking for Derek among all the broken pieces of building.
