Who: Octavia Blake & OPEN
When: Tonight
What: Checking things out
Where: Fall Festival
Warnings: Not likely but will update if necessary; possible spoilers for the final season/finale of The 100

This place was wild. Every time Octavia ventured out of the housing area she saw something new. Hell, she discovered something new each time she was inside her apartment too. It was probably weird, but she felt more at home in that creepy forest with the scarecrows trying to kill her than she did here. This place was strange and new yet also in the past as far as Earth was concerned. She'd heard the stories just like all of the Ark kids did growing up. Hers had come from Bellamy and her mother, but that's still all they were -- stories. Seeing it for herself was pretty incredible even if it wasn't the real Earth from home. Close enough.

It was hard carrying around some of the knowledge she had of the future when she looked at Murphy, Raven, Echo, and especially Bellamy. On one hand, she thought she could tell them some of what happened, but that would involve dredging up the past she wanted and preferred to leave in the past plus a whole hell of a lot and more that happened on Sanctum, Bardo, and Skyring. She missed Hope, but she also found herself missing Diyoza more than she had in a long while. She'd never really had the chance to grieve the woman that had become like a sister to her since in typical fashion of home, life never slowed down for any of them.

Until now, that is, or so it seemed. Octavia soon found herself walking around the fall festival that had somehow plopped right into the city. It looked so odd and out of place from the outside, but on the inside it was kind of nice. Hope would like this, she thought to herself a couple of times as she watched the kids play a few games and take turns on the hayride. Younger Hope would, maybe even the older version she had finally started getting to know.

For the most part, Octavia was a spectator of the festival activities. in all of the places and planets she'd lived, she'd never seen anything like this. Not that she would have seen any of it, but the Ark hadn't even had anything like this. Someone offered her a cup of apple cider, and she took it after a small hesitation. She blew lightly on the steaming cup of hot cider, and smiled to herself after her first sip. She'd never tasted anything like it, and damn if it wasn't good. She stood back and watched a group of people laughing while they carved up what she assumed were pumpkins according to the sign.

Earth from the past wasn't so bad. Maybe even someone like her could get used to this.

Malia wasn't sure where Stiles had wandered off to, probably to play some silly game, or to get some food that seemed to be only at fairs and carnivals and festivals. Whatever. She could smell him so she knew he was around. She wasn't worried. He'd fine her, or she'd hint him down if she felt the need, if he was gone too long.

For now, though, she was walking around, enjoying the sights and smells, if not the sounds of the festival. She was drawn to the sausage cart, and ordered herself a meal. It wasn't the same as hunting her own food, but it would do. She liked cooked meat well enough, especially paired with bread, though she found she could do without the onions and peppers. She knocked them off into a trash bin, and ate just the meat and bread.

"You look overwhelmed," Malia said when her wandering brought her up to where Octavia was. She'd seen the girl around the apartments, but didn't know her. Malia didn't know many people in the apartments, she tended to stick close to Stiles and didn't venture out much. Coyotes weren't particularly social creatures, after all, and she had no real pressing need to make friends. But here she was.

Even though she hadn't really been paying close attention to any one thing, Octavia's mind was occupied enough with all that was going on around her that she didn't see the other girl nearby until she'd spoken. "It's that obvious, huh?" remarked Octavia with a bit of a smile. Normally, she'd be on guard or on the defense in case of a threat, but outside of the few days in the woods, she hadn't felt any of that here.

"I've never been to anything like this before." She gave a small wave of her hand. "The place I'm from is a lot different from here." That was putting it lightly even if you didn't consider Sanctum, Bardo, or Skyring. Earth had been a hell of a lot different too.

"That forest a lot of us ended up in for a while? That felt like home more than this does." She considered a moment. "Minus the weird guys made out of hay." They had plenty of other threats, but nothing like that.

"I did get some of this though." She held up her cup of cider. "And it's really good."

"What is that?" Malia moved a few steps closer. She could smell it, but it didn't smell like anything she really knew. "Is it apple?"

She'd spent most of her life, at least the life she remembered, living in the woods as a coyote. The woods definitely felt more like home to her, but she didn't comment on that. Her home was with Stiles, and Stiles wasn't made for living in the woods.

He was entirely too clumsy. And awkward. And human.

"I don't think I've ever had that before," she added, gesturing toward the cup Octavia held.

"Yeah, the sign said it was something called apple cider," Octavia said, peering down into the cup a bit. "Apple but like it has a few spices to give it some extra flavor." The closest she'd ever had to a normal kitchen or cooking supplies was her life with Hope and Diyoza on Skyring with their garden.

"Do you want some?" She pointed back over her shoulder in the direction she came. "The place was just a little back there if you want a cup to try." And maybe a chance to get a refill for herself while she was at it.

"I'm Octavia, by the way." She didn't recognize Malia, but that didn't mean much since not long after getting here, she'd stepped into that forest. "I haven't been here that long, so a lot of this is still new."
