Daisy/Tony
WHO: Tony Stark & Daisy Johnson (and baby Ethan!)
WHAT: Getting to know each other
WHERE: Tony and Co's apartment
WHEN: Backdated closer to Ethan's birth
WARNINGS: Nah
STATUS: Completed via GDOC
Tony adored having a baby boy. He loved his teens more than anything, but he was excited about getting to raise a child from birth. He was going to do everything in his power to make sure Ethan always knew his parents and siblings. Screw aliens and entities. Tony would figure the place out and give his kids a safe, happy world. And in the meantime? He was happy to show his little dude off to everyone.
“What do you think?” He asked Daisy as he cradled a sleeping Ethan in his arms.
Hanging out with Tony Stark was kind of surreal in a way her younger self might have almost definitely squealed about in only a partly creepy fangirl kind of way, but she didn’t think she could be blamed for that. A lot had changed for her since her hacktivist days, but she still held a lot of admiration for the man and she thought it was really cool to get the chance to know him.
“I think Coulson would have been so proud to see this,” she said as she looked at the tiny bundle in Tony’s arms. She’d heard more than she could ever repeat about the Avengers and how Coulson had felt about all of them. She knew how much he’d missed them and she couldn’t help wishing he could be here to see this.
Tony hadn’t thought about Coulson in a long time, but he smiled as he recalled the eager man. “Maybe he will one day,” he replied, guessing Daisy was close to Phil since she brought him up. “Would you like to hold the baby?” He had to remind himself not to monopolize his son. The boy had to get used to people outside his immediate family or no one would ever get any peace.
Daisy hoped so. She’d been here long enough to know that people could come from different times here; she knew it was possible that Coulson could show up, the real Coulson and there weren’t many people she’d be happier to see.
“Me?” she asked. She shouldn’t have been surprised, but Daisy didn’t know the last thing about babies. She wasn’t sure she thought of herself as someone you wanted to let hold your newborn.
Tony laughed. “Yeah, I was shitting myself the first time too.” He nodded toward the sofa. “Why don’t you take a seat? Easier to hold little dude there, hm?”
Daisy laughed a little nervously and nodded, taking the seat Tony had offered her. “Yeah, probably a good plan,” she agreed. At least if she was sitting down, she was less likely to drop the kid on his head or something. That would have made a hell of a first impression on Tony Stark, she thought. Daisy may have left her cosplay days behind her, but that didn’t mean she didn’t admire the hell out of him still.
Tony eased the baby into Daisy’s arms. “There you go, just support the head. You got it. There you go.” He pulled out his phone. “Picture time!”
The impulse to protest was automatic, but Daisy suppressed it and the smile she gave for the camera was genuine as she relaxed into holding the infant. She had very little experience with babies, but it seemed like at least some of this really was instinct.
“He’s really beautiful, Tony,” she said, smiling again. While Daisy couldn’t really picture being a mom, herself, she really was happy for him and Pepper and the family they had here.
“Isn’t he?” Tony smirked and then added, “thanks.” He slid next to them on the sofa and flashed Daisy a smile. “So, tell me about yourself, Daisy.”
“Uh, well...” Daisy paused. Her life story was kind of complicated and she didn’t exactly know where to start. “I taught myself to hack because I wanted to find my parents,” she began. “Got busted by Coulson and he recruited me to join his team. SHIELD. Taught me to be a spy and gave me a purpose. They were the first real family I ever knew.” She laughed softly. “It’s been a pretty wild ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
“Sounds like a wild one,” Tony agreed. “Glad SHIELD gave you a purpose. Maybe you can help change its reputation.” Tony couldn’t help wondering what roads SHIELD would have gone down if his father remained alive. Worse? Better?
Daisy laughed. “Yeah, a lot of people are not fans,” she admitted. SHIELD had kind of been on everyone’s shit list since HYDRA had come into the open. They’d operated in secret a lot of the time since, having to fly under the radar and avoid the authorities. “Wild might be an understatement, but I believe in the work we do. We help people, we try to make the world a little safer and better. Our new director is one of the best men I’ve ever known.” Mack was so much better for the job than she ever could have been. Being that kind of leader just wasn’t for her, but Mack was a natural at it. “Kind of weird being in a world where they don’t even exist,” she admitted.
“I bet. It is a big part of your life,” Tony agreed. “Nothing stopping you from starting something similar here, but I’ll warn you...the last time someone tried, it didn’t go over too well.”
Daisy shook her head. “I don’t know if there’s really a need here,” she said. As much as SHIELD meant to her, a lot of it was the people - her team - and none of them were here with her. It wouldn’t be the same without them and aside from the occasional weird shit that seemed to go down, it didn’t seem like there was much of a need for what they did. “I still want to help people,” she admitted, but I’m not a leader. I’m a soldier and I don’t think this world needs that. At least not full-time. “Maybe I’ll go back to hacking,” she added with a small laugh.
