Tony & Bucky
WHO: Tony Stark & Bucky Barnes
WHAT: Into the forest
WHERE: Spooky Door
STATUS: Threading
WARNINGS: Language, violence

Tony did not plan to go through the creepy door. He really was making good on his promise to Pepper to retire from the superhero gig. There were plenty of heroes in Goodland that could help should things go belly up, after all. However, the door seemed to have some sort of gravitational pull so Tony found himself in the middle of a forest. The forest was dark and there was an annoying humming sound, but everything seemed calm. Still, Tony summoned his suit, thanking the entity that it flew to him.

He crept around, trying to find a way out.

He was on his way to his studio when he came across the door. At first it just took him by surprise, and Bucky stopped short to look the door over like it was a piece of a puzzle. It had come out of no where, and even though he knew in the back of his mind that there was a strong possibly something bad was on the other side of the old, worn door, curiosity soon took control. He opened the door slowly and was ready to spring into action if something popped out at him. But nothing did. Walking through, Bucky kept a hand on the door knob, but before he knew it, the door slammed against him with a thud and disappeared as soon as it was closed.

"Great," he murmured in a deadpan. The first thing he noticed, other than being surrounded in a dark forest, was a humming sound. It was all around him like an annoying version of white noise, and he couldn't pinpoint its directional source. At this point, his only option was to start walking to see if he could find a way out or another door.

Eyes peeled for movement, Bucky's training began to kick in instinctively. He walked silently through the woods, letting his eyes adjust to the darkness. It was then that he heard the sound of fighting and a loud blast come not far from behind him. He turned, waited a moment, and then took off towards the sound, soon seeing another spark of a blast just ahead. Before he got there though, a loud screech came at him from the left soon followed by a strange creature wielding a pitchfork.

Bucky dodged the pitchfork just in time. The only weapon he had on him at the moment was himself, so he readied himself for the next attack and once it came, he lashed out a kick that didn't hit quite as hard as he thought it would. It still managed to push the creature back, and Bucky managed to grab hold of the pitchfork as it fell. He went at it himself, slicing through the creature only to find that instead of blood, there was... straw?

Wait what? Just then, he looked over what had initially caught his attention. Iron Man. "Tony?"

The calmness, of course, didn't last. Tony suddenly found himself face to face with deranged looking scarecrows. He went to work blasting them, but every time he got rid of one, another appeared. It was exhausting, but thoughts of Pepper and his kids kept him going.

F.R.I.D.A.Y. relayed Bruce's message that Lyra was in the forest so he was desperately searching for the little girl, but to no avail. The forest was massive. She could be anywhere, especially if she was hiding (which he hoped she was).

He'd just blasted another Halloween reject when he heard someone say his name. He kept his guard up; what if it was a trick? "Bucky? Is that really you?"

"As real as any of this is," said Bucky, brushing away some of the excess straw that had fallen on his clothes and in his hair. His first time in Goodland, the strange occurrences had mostly been benign, and the same had been the case since his return. He'd heard from a few others of dangerous instances. He guessed it was about time one popped up again; he just hasn't expected it to be this.

"Did you come through a door from Goodland? One that appeared out of no where?" If there were multiple ways to be brought here then maybe there were multiple ways to get out. So far he hadn't been able to find any doors inside the forest that would take them back home. If the doors appeared and disappeared at random, it was possible if they stayed put then one would randomly appear near them, but Bucky wasn't the type that could stand still for very long. "We should probably keep mov-..."

The sound was muffled because of the humming noise all around, but Bucky's words trailed off when he hard the rustling of what sounded like leaves but instead were several more scarecrows running towards them. "Or hold that thought," he said, gripping the pitchfork tightly in his hand.

The humming was really annoying, but he couldn't have F.R.I.D.A.Y. put up blockers since he needed to hear what else was going on around him. Still, it was hard to focus on what Bucky was saying and keep watch for the scarecrows.

"Great," Tony replied as he held up his blasters. "Let's rock and roll." He started moving through the scarecrows, blasting as best he could. It was a mess and he was glad his eyes were shielded from the scratchy straw.

The only positive to fighting a scarecrow in the middle of an unknown forest was that.. he was fighting a scarecrow. There was no need to worry whether or not he could go for the kill since these things weren't actually alive. Right? Their straw went everywhere each time he speared one with the pitchfork, but he also had fought next to a raccoon and a tree at some point or another.

When they had another break in straw men coming for them, Bucky looked through the trees as best he could to make sure it was actually a break. They seemed to be alright for the time being at least.

"Do you know how we're supposed to get out of here?" He asked Tony, hoping for some sort of answer but guessing he knew as about as much of this forest as he did -- not a lot.

"The door I came through disappeared right after I got here."

Tony kept a look out as well, using his AI to survey their surroundings. He was damn grateful FRIDAY was working in the crazy, magical forest. "Another door?" he ventured. "Unless this another maze type thing. You weren't here for that, were you?"

Bucky shook his head but still kept his eyes on their surroundings. He doubted that it would be too long before another one of the scarecrows popped out of the darkness to attack them again.

"No, but I've heard a few stories about what happened when it was here." Something Bucky wasn't disappointed to have missed. So far he wasn't too worried about this forest, they were able to handle the creatures easily enough, but he knew that could change on a dime.

"So we find another door." One could pop up anywhere or it was possible that there was only one door that would take them back home. "At this point it's probably best to stay together, but we can start looking for one." In the dark forest that seemed to go on forever.
