What: Dancing, talking, probably some feels, who knows
When: Backdated to the ball because Kimity and I are weird
Where: The ballroom!
Warnings: None, probably, will update if needed

Adjusting to 2020 was going more easily than Steve might have thought. Adjusting to the odd things this Entity seemed to like to do was a little more slow going. Despite the upheaval and the initial surprise, though, he couldn't deny Asgard was a stunning place. And it was, admittedly, made that much more beautiful by having Diana there.

That was something else that might take some getting used to. But in a good way. He had gone into that fight one hundred percent ready and accepting that he wasn't going to come out of it. And then he had landed here. Obviously, he wasn't exactly disappointed to find the woman he'd gone and fallen for there (and single, to his admitted relief). But it had been a very long time for her and the blink of an eye for him.

But that was alright. It had to be. Because he was getting another chance at living and another chance to have this woman in his life and he could maybe live with future showing cookies and surprise trips to the home of the gods if it meant he could get another few years out of life.

He arrived at Diana's side, offering a glass of what he was fairly certain was mead. "Better than infiltrating German parties any day, I'd say." And he was pretty sure Diana didn't have any immediate intentions of killing anyone tonight, so that was already a plus.

Having Steve back, her Steve, had been the saving grace Diana unwittingly needed. Just knowing he was a stone's throw away from her shared flat meant the world to her. More importantly, he was alive. She wanted to spend every moment possible with him, but also didn't want to overwhelm him. There was a lot for him to adjust to learning, seeing, and experiencing.

That they could unwind in Asgard like this was a welcome reprieve from all that stress.

So, fighting was very, very low on her list... provided nothing emerged trying to kill anyone, especially Steve.

Smiling fondly at his arrival, she took the drink graciously. His remark garnered a laugh, albeit a slightly sheepish one. Shaking her head, she lifted her glass in a show for a toast. "To far less enemies, then?"

Diana wasn't the only one having to intentionally keep their distance. The last thing he wanted to do was cling and risk making her feel awkward or smothered. And honestly, he appreciated the time apart for what it was. A chance to find his new identity in a world where he could focus on being himself. Something years working as a double agent hadn't granted him.

But he was also incredibly grateful for every possible moment he got with her.

He tapped his glass gently to hers, then glanced around. "Figured I should check. With the way our luck runs, we toast to no enemies and suddenly, enemies." They really should probably work on that.

"You really do look beautiful tonight." But of course she did. He didn't think there was a time or place the Entity could drop them where Diana would look less than breathtaking. He was even pretty sure that wasn't just his bias talking, Etta had agreed after all.

It was a bittersweet conundrum, wanting to be around him and wanting to give him a chance to breathe. Their time together in comparison to her lifespan had been no more than a few blinks of the eye, yet had nearly defined her entire existence for decades thereafter. Like him, she'd wished for nothing except more time. Now that they had it, squandering was out of the question. The only question remained was how to avoid doing so.

Laughing at that, Diana knew it to be true. Even without him, she had kept her head down only so far as to tackle what was immediate. She never went out of her way to be a shield to mankind, not until decades after losing him. Perhaps Diana had also needed to find herself anew.

"I'd like to believe we are safe enough here in Asgard," she offered, then took a sip of the drink. What a surreal place to be, too, in a land of ancient gods.

Lowering the glass as he blindsided her with a compliment, Diana lowered her head almost bashfully. Her smile evident despite the action, she appeared to be struck with disbelief. Not that Steve would think her beautiful, but that he was even here to say it. This felt like a dream.

Gingerly, she reached over to gently adjust his collar with a fondness in her eyes before meeting his gaze again "And you look very handsome, Steve Trevor."

"It's...taking some getting used to," he admitted, hesitating about being so open. But if he could be honest with anyone, wasn't it her? "The being safe thing." Steve had lived looking over his shoulder for so long that not being in danger had him almost as anxious as he'd been when he was constantly pretending to be another person and knowing death waited for him if he was caught.

And as quickly as he'd let himself be vulnerable, he pasted the charm back on. This wasn't the time or the place. They were at a ball they hadn't had to sneak into in a land he'd thought to be legend. And he absolutely had the most gorgeous woman in the room by his side. This was not a night for darkness.

A bashful smile crossed his face, though, as she met his eyes. "Why thank you." And he meant it, since he knew she was hardly the type to give compliments that she didn't mean. At least, she hadn't been since he'd known her. But apparently a lot of time had passed so maybe he was wrong. "Still not sure about these Asgardian fashions. Can't deny they're more comfortable than any traditional three-piece."

That sentiment Diana understood very well. Ever since arriving, she'd been looking over her shoulder for the next strike. Things had not exactly been calm when she left her world, just barely having teamed up with her team to prevent the veritable end of the world. She still had so much to share with Steve, but perhaps they truly would have time. Time enough that she didn't need to dump everything on him in one or two visits.

With her free hand, Diana rested her hand against the side of his face and offered a sympathetic smile. Even as he turned the bravado back on, she didn't relent.

"Trouble could be around any corner, but there's no need to worry here. Not tonight. That much I believe."

Sipping at her drink, she drew that same hand down to fiddle with his outfit absently, then laughed. "I can't say I lament the change in fashion. Clothes in general have become much less cumbersome." Perhaps a little too revealing for some, but given the nature of Amazon dress--Diana had already been used to dressing comfortably rather than for the sake of some ridiculous notion of modesty.

"There you go trying to jinx us again," he teased, but her words succeeded in calming him slightly. Maybe, at least for one night, he could actually relax and enjoy just...living. That was something to think about in itself. He had this second chance and he damn sure intended to make it count.

She was so casual, so easy with her affection that Steve could almost pretend that no time at all had passed for her. That was something else he was going to have to really sit down and wrap his head around. What had been the blink of an eye for him had been nearly one hundred years for her. And she still looked exactly as she had the day she'd pulled him out of the sea.

That was going to make some waves for a long term relationship, now wasn't it?

He couldn't help grinning as a memory teased him, though. "I distinctly remember the first time we tried to put you in a corset. For someone used to wearing armor, you'd think we were asking you to stab yourself on your sword." And, if Steve knew his secretary as well as he thought he did, Etta nearly had done just that. The revealing nature of the more modern fashions were a bit of a surprise to him, but after the general culture shock had worn off, he figured he would adjust easily enough. Besides, women weren't the only ones benefitting from more comfortable clothing.
