Who: Thor & Valkyrie When: Sept 25th, at the ball Where: Asgard, Ball, etc Warnings: C for Cute, F for Flirting Status: Started in Gdocs CODE
Valkyrie had spent the week wandering Asgard in a haze of emotions. She had never thought to see this place again and there was much to revisit. Much to see for the first time. And much to miss. She’d already stored a couple of weapons to take home, a spear would be nice to have after all, and she was hoping she could find Aragorn here. She wasn’t sure, but it didn’t matter. She was happy to be home.
But Home brought a lot of guilt crashing in too. She’d attended the dinners every night in varying degrees of dresses (a,b) and tonight she put on a dark copper dress that the bodice was molded to her body, accentuating her strong curves and falling to scalemailled feathers and armor at the hips, then flared out into a dark satin skirt. Her long braided hair was pulled back into a fancy twist (but all in her box braids), the only thing she was missing was a crown.
She hadn’t bothered to go look for one. Booted feet carried her into the main hall where, despite her desires, she was announced as Queen of New Asgard and guided to one of the main tables. She really was not a royal at heart, she liked ruling, she did her job well, but the old traditions weren;’t her best friends after all.
Thor was happy to be home, and proud that he could finally show the wonders of Asgard to those he loved. He was able to escort his daughter around the palace and show her his favorite places, he was able to show her the life that he felt she should have had. He took Tony and Bruce around to the bars, to the most beautiful areas of the city. He was filled with memories, both good and bad.
The ball had been a welcome distraction. He wore his traditional armors, silver and dark leather with his large red cape and red accents, and the crown that denoted him as the King. It was strange to wear the crown that had belonged to his father. Still, it was what was deemed appropriate.
Thor caught sight of Valkyrie and smiled, moving towards her, he gave her a small bow as he moved towards her. He wanted to comment on how pretty she looked, but he kept that to himself for the time being. “Your crown is missing,” He commented, and without much ado, he plucked his own crown off his head and placed it on hers. “There, that looks better.”
She smiled at Thor, no matter how much his leaving had stung and sent her into a tailspin, his return had made her happy. And she was enjoying how much everyone was happy to be here, to be home. She still has too many entanglements to feel at ease but it was nice.
The Valkyrie had missed where she'd belonged. Just maybe, she wasn't willing to admit it. Not yet.
She started to protest, "Well of course it is, I don't have one." Then she blinked, "This is yours, I shouldn't." The protests were weak, even she knew she should have one. But to put his on her head made her feel all out of sorts. Much to her disdain, she blushed a bit.
One hand came up to carefully adjust how it sat, half tempted to take it off and give it back, but she knew he'd just put it back on her head again.."I'm." She started lamely, "have you enjoyed showing everyone around?"
"Its hardly mine." Thor corrected her easily, "My brother has more claim to that than I do. I was only king of Asgard for a day…. And in that time, we both know what happened." Though Thor had pangs of regret for what he had done to save Asgard, he knew that it was the right choice, though he couldn't deny that being here brought his heart much joy. "Even Loki had been ruler for longer, even as illegitimate as it might have been."
He extended his hand to hers, nodding towards the ball area where others were dancing. "Come along, queen. Let us make others jealous."
She rolled her eyes a little but he wasn't wrong. So she let it go and smiled at him. "Well, then, I suppose. Does it suit me?" her smile turning mischievous at the question.
Valkyrie took the offered hand, "I'm not sure we are going to make anyone jealous, my king, I am hardly worth the effort of jealousy." She curled her fingers around his though, smiling a little.
"I'd dare say that Asgard has never before had a ruler who looked as dazzling in the crown as you before, Brunhilde." Thor told her with a playful smile, though his words were entirely genuine. "The look of you alone could quell any rebellion."
He squeezed her hand as he lead her, and gave her a pointed look. "I am most handsome," he said proudly, "and you are one of the three most beautiful women in Asgard today. I would definitely go as far as to say the most attractive, especially in that dress."
"Everyone will be jealous of the pair we would make… on the dance floor."
She blinked, then laughed softly. "Dazzling, hmm, never thought I would hear that word in relation to me." Though she knew he meant every word he said, and not to tease her. "I should hope not, I much prefer to be able to use my skills to quell a rebellion." Though, she blushed anyway.
"Well, you are rather handsome." She conceded that point with a laugh, "One of the three, goodness, I almost feel special." She was lighthearted she didn't mind, she'd never aimed for beautiful anyway.
Her eyes glittered with mischief as they took their place on the floor, people giving them space, deference even. It was not something the Valkyrie was used to. "Oh, we make quite the pair, I think." Her lips twitched into a grin.
"I believe this might be the first time anyone has seen you in such a delicately crafted copper dress, my queen. Such praises should be sung." He smiled and pulled her close once they were in an acceptable position amongst the dancers. "Oh, I doubt anyone would test your skills, only the stupid."
"I have to give credit to my mother and daughter as well." Thor said with a smile, "they share my genetics after all, but, if you feel better, you've beaten out Loki for the third most beautiful Royal." He winked.
A hand dropped to her lower back as they moved to the music. "Quite a pair," he agreed softly. "I like it."
"It might also be the first time in a very long time I've graced these halls wearing a finely crafted dress, period, my king." She said easily as he pulled her close. Despite appearances she did know how to dance, and she tried very hard not to try to lead. Her hand on his shoulder felt comfortable.
Her head tilted, "and they are very lovely indeed." She laughed softly, "Thor, queen I might be, but, I will never live up to royal standards. That said, I am lucky Loki is not inclined to cheat currently to best me in looks. I will take that." Her smile was unreadable, but her eyes were bright.
Her smile softened, the knife edges turned just a bit kinder. "I agree. The Royal king and the non royal Queen. We make a delightfully strong pair do we not?"
“You don’t have to call me that,” Thor teased her, “Though I certainly like the idea of being your King.” Thor had been trained to dance by his mother, who had at one point in time called it just as important as battle. At the time, Thor hardly believed her, but he was starting to see the merits of it.
“It might be the only time that Loki doesn’t cheat.” Thor smirked at her, he couldn’t help but notice the way that her head tilted up at him. The hand that rested on her shoulder moved to her cheek, cupping it lightly. “Royal standards are set by the King, and If I am to be king, I would say that you fit the exact standard that should be set for a Queen.”
He dipped his head closer to hers, with a calm smile, “A delightful pair indeed.” He told her softly, dipping his lips to hers.
She laughed a bit, "No but you like it don't you?" She teased him, she moved easily though, fighting was like dancing. There was an art to both, and she'd had years to practice.
She tilted her head gently into his hand. She wasn't soft very often but she was right now, she was enjoying dancing with Thor. He was a good partner. "Well. I can't really argue with that logic now can I?" She grinned.
She hadn't been expecting the kiss, and she let out a little sigh as she leaned up into it, returning it with a hint of her usual fierceness, her fingers tightening a touch on his shoulder.
Thor let out a laugh that was louder than he’d intended (and to be honest, that was hardly the first time something like that had happened). “I do like it, My Queen.” He told her playfully, a smirk on his lips.
“Arguments always end with me winning, I am persistent.” He looked proud for a moment, as if he were truly something he should be pleased with. Both hands dropped to her hips, just to pull her closer.
Thor nipped at her lips lightly, “I like this too, for the record.” He told her, as he rested his forehead against hers.
That was one thing she liked about Thor, he was always so honest about things. If he was happy, you could tell. It was refreshing, honestly. She'd store that for later - knowledge that he really didn't mind when she called him that, and that he'd be pleased to be her King.
"Then, my friend, you have never truly argued with me. I am rather stubborn, and only give ground when I wish to. You will find winning with me not as easy as you may wish."
She draped both arms around his neck, light, relaxed, "Do you? How much?" She asked teasingly as she nipped back at him, stealing another quick kiss, her smile downright wicked.
"Ask my brother," Thor quipped, "there is no one in all of the Nine Realms as annoying as myself in an argument." He said happily.
He moved with her slowly to the sounds of the music, enjoying the way they fit together. "Perhaps I will get a chance to tell you later. Maybe when I give you a tour of the Princes Chamber." He winked and tightened his grip on her, spinning them both around wildly.
"You are ridiculous." She replied easily, though she knew he wasn't lying, he was likely capable of frustrating her, "is that why he stabs you so often?" The Valkyrie teased.
Not one for enjoying traditionally feminine things, she was actually finding herself enjoying dancing with him. She'd never been more keenly aware of how much smaller she was, either.
Even rarer was the genuine laugh that spilled from her lips, "My king you are bold, aren't you?" She leaned up, stretching a touch so she could speak against his ear, "That might be a tour I would enjoy immensely."
>
Thor looked mockingly perplexed as she asked him about the stabbing, "hmmm." He exaggerated. "I had always just assumed it was his jealousy at the fact that I was clearly the superior brother, perhaps even that he was jealous that I could be stabbed as much and still be able to lift him over my head and carry him back to mother for his punishments. This could be a new and relevant discovery in our brotherly." He teased her.
"I feel like a warrior Queen might enjoy such daring." He smirked. Thor was no stranger to being arrogant, though that had been toned down a lot since the time he been banished from the castle. "I will certainly make time to take you."
She snorted a bit, "It might be something to look into as a possibility." Her lips twitched into a wry grin, "though to be fair, I could stab you both and carry you both back to your mother if you drive me too crazy. You would do well to remember that."
"You are not wrong, no. I prefer people who are daring." She said watching him through half lowered lashes. "Perhaps, in thanks, I will show you one of my favorite places here. Maybe, if I find you deserving."
Thor just raised her eyebrow dramatically at Valkyrie. “Oh, you could take down Loki no problem, Valkyrie, you proved that on Sakaar. But you rule out that shock disc you caught me with, and you wouldn’t dare win a fight against me. And the two of us at the same time? You wouldn’t make a dent.” He teased her. He knew that Valkyrie’s skill was nothing to sneeze at, but he was one for his own ego.
“I would love to see the place in all of Asgard you deem to have your favorite.” He told her, honestly intrigued.
Her lips curled into a sweet smile, "I do not need that disc to win. I am sure someday I will prove myself, but I shall let you have that thought for now if it helps you sleep at night." She was confident in her skills. She'd survived Hela, twice. If she could catch Loki first, She was sure she'd win - his magic would be the hardest thing otherwise. She had nothing against that. Her own ego was healthy, and her grin showed that. Of course, taking a hit from Mjolnir or Stormbreaker would put a dent in even her plans.
Her smile was sharp-edged, even as her eyes were softer. "My time here was fraught with conflict of one sort or another, but, beyond the barracks, I had a place I would go to unwind, relax between. It might not be as fancy, but it is dear to me." She banished the shadow that started to creep over her face with a deflection.
