Putting out an open request for information was always going to get a lot of responses, but he’d been counting on that. He knew it wasn’t everyone. There were those who either hadn’t seen it yet, or didn’t want to respond. And that was okay. He wasn’t expecting everyone to volunteer that kind of information. He’d been counting on the want to share what they could do from a lot of them, though.
It might not have been done as efficiently as Tony could have managed, but he got the information collated in a way that worked for him. Knew, on a basic level at least, what each of the people who’d spoken up could, and wanted, to do. He did feel better for it, too. Like he’d told Darcy.
The other thing he’d told her held true, too. He wouldn’t presume to think all these people would just defer to him and take his orders. Even if he knew it would be a hell of a lot easier. Too many headstrong people vying for control wouldn’t help things at all. But he did want it. The responsibility. It sat well with him to know calls were his to make, the consequences ultimately his to face.
The fact of it was, last time they'd been faced with a serious threat, threats, there'd been no one in command, no strategies, not even a hint of a plan. And though a few half hearted attempts had been made, once they were already in the heat of battle it was too late for that. And that was largely Steve's motivation for doing that.
Closing the laptop and tossing his notebook on top of it, he stood from his spot on the couch to see what in the fridge could maybe be turned into dinner. Having James start living there hadn’t really helped with the always running out of food problem. He didn’t eat as much as the rest of them, but the kid was no slouch.
When none of the food staring back at him offered any immediate inspiration, Steve shut the fridge again, reaching for his phone. Pizza worked.
