17 August - Archery Field
"Lara thought archery lessons was much more adventurous."

WARNINGS - NONE
read </a>
Lara breathed out and at the same time releasing the bow. It wasn't much of a practice for her, the targets were easy enough, she assumed it was set up for beginners, but at least it was something for her to do to clear her head. Ever since she had arrived, her mind raced. A part of her knew that she should try to relax, but there was this nagging feeling in her stomach, she was so used to keeping up her guard that it seemed impossible for her not to be cautious at all times. She tried to speak with different people, get a sense of what this place and this Jubilant Entity was about, but she was coming to the conclusion that others already understood...there wasn't much.

Shooting the last of her arrows, she walked over to collect, quietly thanking that there wasn't anyone else around that might accidentally hit her. At least there was an activity here that she knew well and it helped past the time. Thankfully she had some experience before the events on Yamanta, it was either this or tennis lessons and a young Lara thought archery lessons were much more adventurous. To keep up the practice, she positioned two arrows, one breath in...and release.

Valkyrie stretched as she headed out to go find something to do. She hadn't really had the urge to do anything lately, this whole experience was frustratingly boring to her. She snagged a bow and arrows and headed to the archery field. She hadn't really used a bow in forever and she felt she really should polish up on it.

She paused on the edge as she came up and saw Lara practicing, she rested the bow on her hip, smiling a bit. "Nice shot." she called out as she was finished, she didn't want to interrupt her, so she'd waited. The Valkyrie was not tall, but she looked like nothing was wasted on her. "Mind if I join you?" she asked, head tilted.

Lara turned her head and gave Valkyrie a small smile. "Thank you." Despite having extroverted friends like Sam and Jonah, Lara was never great at making conversation, especially with someone she didn't know well or at all. She could hear their voices, encouraging Lara to try and make friends. As much as she wanted to go home, it wouldn't hurt to try and get to know some of the people, especially now they all were crammed together in a cabin.

"Not at all," Lara replied. "It's nice to see someone making use of it. I haven't seen anyone else come this way today, though there are a lot of us." She paused. "I'm not sure how many archers we have here."

Valkyrie could be hard to be friends with, she was rough edges, out spoken and not terribly humble or shy. But she was doing better, here, trying to rebuild a life. She scared more people away than she drew in, but she didn't actually mind.

"I haven't used a bow in a long time, sword and spear were my favored weapons." She was, of course, good with a bow. She'd excelled at much of her training, but in her eyes she was rusty as all get out. She took a spot near Lara so they could still talk. "Is that so? That's a shame." She paused to lift her bow, pull an arrow from the quiver and nock it. "It is a good weapon to train on."

A breath then she loosed the arrow. It flew straight and was off the mark to the right "Hmm. It has been awhile."

"It depends on where I am," Lara admitted. "I like my bow, but I'm no stranger to other weapons, mostly guns." It was difficult to say which one she preferred more because it always would depend on the situation. There have been times where a bow has come in handy, especially if she didn't want to be seen. It was a lot harder to stay incognito with a gun, but on the other hand, as she thought back to times where she's aimed for gas containers, sometimes going big helped.

Lara loaded another arrow but waited until Valkyrie made her shot, curious as to her skill level. She gave her a small but encouraging smile. "The more you shoot, the quicker it'll come back to you, I bet."

"Also truth. I have used guns, and lasers, but I will always prefer my sword or spear, I think. They feel more natural in my hand." And that was important for her, for her tools to feel part of her.

She looked at the arrow, "I won't miss again." She promised, more or less to herself, a reminder she had been fighting all her days. Though she inclined her head to indicate Lara should go.

Lara let out a small laugh. "I don't have lasers, but I can think of a few times where that would've come in handy." Lara nodded in agreement. "I can understand that I feel the same way about my bow." The guns themselves didn't feel too unnatural to her, but she could admit that she was a little biased towards her bow.

Lara took Valkyrie's cue and shot her own arrow. On the mark, a little higher than she would have liked. She turned her head. "I have no doubt." Lara could feel herself becoming more awkward, unknowing how to make casual conversations with strangers. "You're from the same universe as Thor and Loki, right?" She wanted to say the films, but she wasn't entirely sure Valkryie would know about them. Sam had dragged her to see a couple of films before, but it had been a while. Lara didn't really make time for it, especially now that she and Sam weren't on speaking terms.

"They can be handy," she admitted with a laugh as she plucked another arrow up and nocked it before she looked over at Lara and nodded.

"I am, yes. I think close, if not the same time, as Thor but after Loki." she said after a few moments thought - she hadn't seen the films, and hadn't asked either. She did not wish to know such things, though she knew it wouldn't be long before she saw them.

It didn't bother her that much - she knew she was regarded as a legend not only by the people of Midgard, but also her own people.

"I'm sure it's nice," Lara commented. "Having someone from home. I was hoping someone I know would be here, but looks like I'm the first to arrive." She laughed softly. "Not all that surprising really, I am usually the first one to dive in first without waiting on the others." Yes, she had no control over it in this case, but it seemed fairly fitting given Lara's nature.

"It still seems a little," She paused. "Surreal to me. I'm used to strange back home, the last few years have opened my eyes more to impossible things, but I admit that sometimes I wish the universe wouldn't test it so much." Lara took another arrow but looked around instead of taking her stance. "This isn't too bad, but I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop." She shrugged. "I can't help it."
