Who: Thor and Loki
What: Brothers reuniting.
Where: The bunks
When: Shortly after his arrival Sunday morning.

Thor had been munching lazily on his breakfast. Torunn had spent the night with her brother, and he was glad to give them the space to reconnect, though he would make sure to check in on her later. He’d decided to look at the network as he ate, thinking idly about what he might do that day. Then he saw Loki’s entry appear. He stuffed the food in his mouth as he hurried to reply and contain his brother through the network.

He had to find him. He stood to move and then thought that he wasn’t sure when Loki had last eaten. He grabbed a few pieces of fruits and a muffin from the table before rushing off to see if he could find his brother. He’d mentioned sharing a room, which means he must have seen the big bunk room.

“Brother!” Thor explained as he pushed upon the door and catching sight of his younger brother. He unceremoniously dropped the food on the first table he saw, dashing to his brother and crushing him in a joyous bear hug. “I have missed you brother. We have much to discuss. Are you well?” The questions came out rapidly, barely having the breath to let his brother speak. “Would you like to walk or stay here?”

Well, this was an actual mindfuck. One he was not pleased at being trapped within. There was absolutely no way this wasn't some sort of mind trickery, or illusion magic, but when Thor said words only his brother could know, it gave Loki pause.

He had just been in space. He had just watched his home, the place he had ruined his own life over, fought over, break into tiny pieces during Ragnarok, and now he was here. It just didn't make sense. And coupled with the idea of different universes, varieties of himself, and apparently his brother had kids. Why didn't he have kids? That seemed rather unfair. And Frigga being alive... that, now that seemed untrue. Something he couldn't simply swallow.

But instead of pulling his usual tricks, he stayed put, in the god awful outfit left for him, for Thor to appear. And appear he did, claustrophobic hug and all, as Loki tried to push him away...

"This is completely unnecessary, Thor," he complained. "We've just seen each other..." The truth resonated through him, knowing what he had experienced to be reality, but this was something different.

"That is a loaded question: Are you well? You're trying to convince me that Frigga is alive, and you have children. You must realize how asinine your truth sounds right now," he said, his voice mildly combative.

“Brother… I have been here a year and…” Thor took a breath, his eyes casting down slightly, before flickering back up to his brothers face. “And it has been six since I’ve last seen you.” Thor had always been a terrible liar, and it was written on his face how much of a half truth that was, but he wasn’t going to tell Loki more than he wanted to know.

“But I swear it to you, Mother is alive. She is here. I would not ever deceive you there.” He said pointedly, knowing that Loki had pulled stunts with him regarding their fathers death before. “My daughter Torunn is from an alternate universe, one where I have apparently turned my back on Midgard and being a decent person.” He was growling a little lowly with his own comment. He hated to hear of his daughters world.

“It might not seem it, but it is true and you know it. Look,” Thor pointed to his eye, the dark red angry scars had formed where Loki would know there to be wounds, and more importantly there was an eye. It was brown, and seemed real. He popped it into his hands though, revealing it to be glass. “It was given to me by a space rabbit, and it is magic.” He put it back into his socket and blinked, the eye resuming it’s realistic look.

“I can answer whatever questions you have.”

Loki, reading the situation quite carefully, cocked his head at Thor's words. Something didn't sit entirely right with him, a signal in the back of his mind perking up. Sure, him and Thor didn't exactly mesh all the time, but such a long break in seeing each other? That seemed unlikely. Loki tried to drop in every few years just to remind his brother he still existed. Why had it been so long this time? None of it made sense. Especially considering the last thing he remembered.

And why was mother alive? And how did Thor have children? And why were there people claiming they knew other versions of him? Everything whipped around his mind quite quickly, the logical side of him trying its best to make the most sense. Even the familiar feeling of Thor's obnoxiously tight hugs didn't reassure him entirely. Something here felt wrong, and he just couldn't shake it.

"Why has it been six year since you've last seen me, brother? I know I am not your favorite, but I would insist on a more regular visitation schedule. Looking him down, Loki kept himself open for the possibility of a lie, or a betrayal. Studying everything about his so called brother. His eye. His facial expressions. His tone, body movement. A part of him wanted to believe, but the rest was none too sure.

“Loki,” Thor said gently, he placed his hand on his brother’s shoulder, gripping it tightly. He wasn’t sure if he was trying to reassure his brother for the words that were coming, or if he were still trying to come to terms that his brother was in fact in front of him. He steeled himself and squeezed softly. “Loki, Thanos boards our ship.” Thor admitted.

“Valkyrie and Hulk… they were evacuating our people to safety, and we attempted to meet him diplomatically. But he overpowered me. I had not at the time been aware that you had smuggled the tesseract onto our ship.” Thor had glared at his brother then, but the look was lacking any real venom. “You gave the stone to spare my life, and had attempted to trick him, but instead he…”

He let out a loud, sad sigh. “He choked you while I was unable to do anything but watch. I tried. He blew up the ship and.. I floated out into space. I would be dead too if I hadn’t been hit by a spaceship. Loki, you’ve been dead for years.”

Immediately, Loki's eyes focused on Thor's hands, wondering why in the actual hell he was attempting some form of, was it comfort? Focusing once more he nodded slightly when the knowledge of Thanos boarding was brought into the open. Loki wasn't entirely surprised. His brain had been planning for that, that's why he had taken it. The Tesseract. It was a bargaining chip to keep his people alive.

Suddenly though, Thor was reciting out loud his overall plan. The idea to buy their lives for the Tesseract. Deceive Thanos. Escape. It was all perfect. There was no way such a thing could fail. But that was not the story he was getting, was it? He had... he had died? Impossible. This was absolutely impossible. Loki never died. He always had a backup plan. And beyond his backup plan, another back up plan.

He was mistaken.

...But the look on his brother's face said otherwise. Clearing his throat, Loki smirked, though it was forced and half-hearted. "You must be mistaken, brother." The last word was said with a slight bit of emphasis, still trying to alert Thor to the fact Loki still didn't entirely believe him. Yet, he knew what Odin had said...

"I always have a plan to save myself. That is simply who I am. There must be a mistake here."

Thor heard the edge in Loki’s voice and couldn’t deny that it stung that he was here, baring his soul to his brother, and he still didn’t believe him. Thor had spent years in a depression, in a haze of alcohol and pizza over his own failures. He’d given away his kingdom to Valkyrie. He had run from this very moment, and he hadn’t known it at all.

“Loki, even if you survived Thanos’ attack, the ship exploded. I barely survived due to luck. I…” He blinked as his voice grew think. “It’s been years, Loki. If you had survived, you would have made yourself known to me.”

Thor dropped his hand and turned away from his brother to gather his thoughts. What did Loki need to know. How could Thor make him believe him. “I chopped his head off for you.” He said, slowly. “Thanos.” Though it might have not surprised Loki years ago when Thor was arrogant and aggressive and war hungry, but that was not the man that Thor was anymore, and the act of aggression was particularly out of character for him.

“It helped nothing.”

It seemed that Loki's apparent death was set in stone. Or so, that was the narrative that Thor continued to press. Loki could feel an uncomfortable sensation flooding through his veins, making his skin prick as he cleared his throat, tilting his head to one side and loudly cracking his neck. Perhaps a subconscious movement after being advised he died of strangulation.

Though he couldn't pinpoint exactly why, a rush of anger caused him to furrow his brows, his fists tightening slightly as he looked over his brother. "Or maybe I was finally sick of always dying because of you, Thor. Did you ever think about that? Maybe I survived, and finally rid myself of you and all the rest of it forever." His words were sharp, low but cutting, and he was well aware of it.

He angrily began to walk towards the door, as though intent on leaving but paused, shifting back and forth between his front and back foot before turning around once more. "I'm sure all of your friends were pleased, at the very least."

"Maybe." Thor said gently, shifting his weight. He should have known that Loki wouldn't react well to the news, he wasn't sure that anyone would take that news well. Loki's words stung at a feeling that he had been working towards repressing his whole time here. His own failures to save the ones he loved haunted him as he looked at the face of his long dead brother. He turned to follow Loki, but quickly realized that the other god might not want that. "Loki, because of you, most of our people made it to a settlement in Midgard called New Asgard, in the place where dad finally rested. No one is happy for the loss of you,  brother, least of all me."

"I… I brought you some food," Thor added lamely,  gesturing to the assorted mix of fruits and muffins he'd grabbed and unceremoniously deposited on the table by the door. "Take something to eat before you leave. Mother will want to see you."

Loki heard it in Thor's voice. The hurt caused by his sharp words. There was a part of him that wanted to apologize, a sudden knee jerk reaction he wasn't expecting. He rarely did that. He'd done far, far worse things to his brother over their lifetimes. But the reality of his death might have been creeping in to the corners of his mind, a small part of him trying to rationalize what Thor went through in the aftermath. He might have been an asshole, but deep down, Loki did possess a heart. The ability to empathize. He just had a talent at ignoring it too.

He was quiet as Thor showed him the food he had brought, the ghost of a smirk on Loki's face at the offering. Thoughtful. It was quite an adorable trait of his brother that he secretly appreciated. "I do hope," he said quietly, looking up to meet his brother's eyes, "There is at least one statue in my honor in this new home. It would be such a shame for Asgard to forget such a choice physique." The words were certainly said in much lighter tone, nearly teasing, in the wake of his anger.

Thor couldn't help but match his brothers soft smirk as he spoke again. Thor could still see the tense way his brother carried himself, but was relieved that the flash of anger was no longer directed at himself.

"New Asgard is a place of beauty brother, your mug would be a offense to such a place." Thor teased back. Though truth be told if he hasn't failed his people and ask into his depression he would have had a statue of honor his brother. As it stood, his people knew what Loki did for them. "However, you will have to take things up with Queen Valkyrie, I imagine she is in charge of such things."

Loki opened his mouth to shoot another quip at his brother, but instead tilted his head slightly in confusion. At first, he didn't respond, walking around Thor the slightest bit. Almost pacing, but not quite. "What do you mean, Queen Valkyrie. Did you not take the throne, brother?" Odin had named him as the next in line, the role his to take. It was another curve ball he hadn't quite expected.
