Draco & Tia

WHAT: Meeting
WHEN: Backdated to first day of age plot.
WHERE: Central Park
STATUS: GDOC
WARNINGS: Some language

Tia hadn’t been planning to take a trip to New York City but the Entity had other ideas. One second she was in her ship with her family, the next she was in a park.

Having seen it in books, she knew which one it was and, being an alien from outer space, she was not phased at all suddenly being somewhere else. In fact, she was actually fascinated by it. How did she get there? Why was she there? Was her brother there with her? Any of her family? There was only one way to find out.

’Tony? Uncle Bene? Are you here?’ She asked telepathically of her brother and father figure when she didn’t see them near her as she walked around. When she didn’t hear them right away, she frowned because she knew she was alone there. Now what was she to do?

When her eyes fell on a hot dog cart near by, she decided she would get a hot dog while she pondered that. Walking forward, she collided with someone going the other way and she nearly fell down on the process.

“I’m so sorry” The eighteen year old said as she found her balance again. “I wasn’t watching where I was going”

Draco was not amused having woken up in a strange place. He’d barely just emerged from his self-imposed lockdown in his time. He was just getting past the war and his role in it when some faceless entity plopped him in the middle of some magical city. Could he catch a break? The only good thing the place had going for it was limited people from his world. He didn’t want to face them so imagine his shock when he woke up in a home with two Weasleys - two Weasleys who apparently took care of his younger self. It did his head in.

“Bloody hell,” he swore, but recovered on realizing it was just some girl. He wandered the city until he found the park. Everyone knew Central Park, even wizards from Britain. He could clear his head there. Or so he thought. “Sorry,” he added. “My fault. I wasn’t watching where I was going.”

Tia laughed at them saying the same thing and moved her waist long hair over one shoulder. She noticed his accent right away and it made her ponder for a moment where he was from. She’d never met anyone with his accent before but from she’d heard in movies, she would have to guess Great Britain. Wherever he happened to be from, she liked it! She liked how he looked too. He was kind of cute.

It was all of that that made her say what she did next. “Do you want to go get a hot dog with me?” She asked, pointing over to the cart. She just happened to have her purse with her and it had Earth money in it that should work there. She’d never been anywhere outside of the United States and as far as she could tell, that was where they were. Or at least some version of it. “I can pay” She added on, holding the purse up so he could see it.

Strangers offering him food. Could the day get odder? Draco normally would have shrugged her off, but, hell, he was hungry, even if it meant eating food out of a cart. “Er, sure,” he agreed. She appeared harmless. “I’m Draco.” He raised his eyebrows, wondering if she’d laugh at his name like most strangers did.

She did not. Instead she smiled pleasantly and nodded her head. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Draco. I’m Tia” She told him as she turned to begin walking towards the hot dog stand. “Where are you from? I love your accent” She asked, starting up a conversation between the two of them so she could get to know him as they walked.

Draco wasn’t used to people being so open and especially not toward him. He felt awkward, but also relieved. He had barely left home since the war so having someone treat him so kindly was appreciated. “I’m from Wiltshire, England,” he replied. “How about you?”

“I thought it was somewhere like that,” Tia replied with a nod of her head and a smile that she had figured out before even asking. She’d always been pretty smart, most likely due to her alien race, and as a result, she was pretty good at figuring things out quickly. “That’s a complicated question. I’m from another planet, then I spent ten years living in California, and now I live on Witch Mountain or on our ship with my family”

Draco raised his eyebrows. Another planet? Did he hit his head somewhere? Was this all a hallucination? He thought about the strange letter he received earlier. It all felt very real. Maybe the newspapers at home were right; maybe he’d gone full blown bonkers. “I see,” he muttered. “When did you get here, Tia?”

“I know how crazy all of that sounds but I promise I won’t hurt you. I’m one of the good ones” She spoke when she saw the look on his face. She should have expected that kind of reaction to the reveal that she was an alien. She didn’t know why she didn’t lie and say she was just a regular human from Earth. She just felt like she could trust him. Intuition about people and situations was one of her powers that really came in hand. “Just a few minutes ago, right before I ran into you” She told him as they got to the hot dog stand.

“Two please. One with ketchup and mustard for me then whatever he wants”

“Mustard, please,” he told the vendor before turning back to the girl. Alien? Woman? He wasn’t sure of the politically correct term. Hell, he’d barely been around people for over a year and here he was in Central Park in some fake New York. However, she did seem pleasant and Draco craved interaction after going so long without any besides his mother’s. “Well, you are feeding me,” he teased, “so you already have brownie points in my eyes.” He shrugged. “Learned a hard lesson about judging others not so long ago,” he added, “so don’t worry. Doesn’t sound crazy. I’m actually a wizard.” Hell, if she told him her “secret”, he might as well tell Tia his, especially if the place was some weird dream.

Tia laughed at that and reached into her purse to pull out her wallet. “Well I have always heard that the way to a man’s heart is food” She teased back as she got out the money that was needed after calculating it in her head. She didn’t even need to be told the total because she added up in her head so quickly. Math had always been her strong suit. “You are?” She asked, her eye going wide with delight as she looked over at him, a big smile on her face. “Can you show me some magic?” She asked as she handed the money over to the vendor.

“Sure,” he agreed easily as he took his hot dog. “Thanks,” he told the vendor before turning back to Tia. “But somewhere less visible,” he added. He still wasn’t sure about their surroundings. Did secrecy matter here? He decided it didn’t. “Come on,” he nodded toward a less crowded area. Might as well go big in his crazy dream.
