Entry tags:active: thor odinson, active: valkyrie

Who: Thor and Valkyrie
What: Training/Sparring/Shittalking each other
Why: Clearly both are functional well adjusted Asgardians and need not to punch things randomly to feel better (this is a lie, this is their therapy)
When: After This
Where: One of the open air parks with plenty of space
Warnings: Language probably, fighting

She dug out her leathers and threw them on, gathering up a couple of her weapons, though she was happy to fight with Thor barehanded if he wanted. She had not been doing well as of late - handling tiny!bruce was something she wasn't experienced at, and it was so easy to isolate herself from the people around her. Everyone had something going on, and while she'd been here for months now, she had formed very few connections. She was a rough person, hard to handle, on a good day. Feeling out of place, and out of time, did not help that in the least.

She was Queen and yet felt like she was back on Sakaar - the early days when she was just full of anger and fighting to keep herself alive. Before she'd given up and drank herself into oblivion. She hated feeling like that, and hated feeling alone. There were so many of her people here, even if she didn't know any of them, but that wasn't a new feeling either. She was much older than even Thor, and sometimes she forgot that.

She shook her head, did a quick mirror check to make sure her braids were settled in place tight against her scalp, and slung a bag over her shoulder to head out. She'd texted him the coordinates on the way out, and her stride covered the distance easily. She had a bottle of everclear in her bag for them, it wasn't enough to do much to them, but she felt like she was going to need it. Despite feeling like she did, and thinking dark thoughts like she had been, she looked calm and confident when he arrived.

"My friend, do you wish to take back what you said?" she said with a low rumble to her voice, a smile on her lips, teasing him. If there was anyone who could understand her, here, it was Thor. He meant more than anyone to her - Bruce coming in a close second - and she wanted them to be close again, here. She regretted keeping her distance from him.

Thor was in a mood. There wasn’t any one thing wrong-- not more than usual anyway. Yes, everyone was of an odd age, his own mother and pseudo-daughter included, but inconveniences like that were pretty normal for this place. He had been there for almost a year--- or had it been more than a year? The thought caused his eyebrows to knit together for a second, he was pretty sure it was a year, around this time at least. No, Thor’s mood was more just… a permeating feeling that seemed to surround him at the most annoying times.

The problem was that, once again, the feeling wasn’t just going away. He didn’t drink in front of Tony, or his daughters, but he found himself drawn to it again, on long quiet nights. He had slipped into his old routine (though it was still punctuated by going to work and spending time with his kids), but he still found himself sinking into his bed and remembering his ways when New Asgard needed his help the most. He put it all on Valkyries shoulders then, and it was almost ironic when he saw he post that they bantered as if nothing, when he knew that he had shoved too much at her before.

He couldn’t wipe the small grin off his face upon seeing his friend. “I only take back what I say when I speak mistruths,” He teased her, and with an overly regal sweep he bowed at her playfully. “Queen of New Asgard.” He smirked, “Are you sure you want to challenge me?”

Oh, Thor had no doubt that Valkyrie could destroy him if she truly wanted to. She was the most fierce fighter Asgard had ever produced, and certainly now that his belly had rounded and his reflexes seemed slower. Still, he had no problems with teasing her.

Valkyrie didn't mind, Thor was her friend. And really here, he was one of two. She had pretty much gotten off on the wrong foot with his mother and that was that. She was old, wise and strong: his worries she'd easily hold up if he needed help.

That's what friends did after all.

Her brows arched upwards. "Oh but my good man they are untruths!" She laughed warmly, then cocked her head at him. "None of that regal bullshit now, you know as well as I, I do not stand on ceremony with you. But I certainly do challenge you."

She smiled, "you are rounder. You'll tell me your problems while I kick your ass across this park, aye?"

“Rounder?” He barked a laugh, “Some friend you are!” He accused playfully, but he didn’t take it to heart, he knew that his appearance wasn’t what it once was. “I believe they call this a Dad-Bod, Valkyrie.” He smirked, “And I’ve had no problems fighting you in the past.”

It was the second part of the sentence that almost caused him to stop. “My problems?” Thor raised his eyebrows, watching her knowingly, “You’re the one who asked for a sparring partner… and that is the closest any Asgard has ever come to admitting that they need help themselves.” He countered. That of course, wasn’t to say the he himself wasn’t sliding down a slippery slope himself.

"Is that what they call it?" She shook her head laughing at that, "I have never heard such a thing." Her eyes were bright as she stepped into the open meadow. "No? Then you will have no trouble now."

"Don't give me that - you are as bad as I am and you know it. If I am feeling trapped and uncertain in my own self, I have no illusions you are too." She lifted a brow, daring him to deny that to her.

"We never ask for help only for people to punch, this is trUe." She grinned at him and held out a hand, beckoning him to come fight her.

“That is what I have been told at any rate.” Thor admitted with a smirk, “That’s likely because you aren’t talking to the right people.”

Thor nodded at Valkyries comments, and moved closer, feinting a punch at her, so that he could distract her and sweep her legs with his. “It is… hard to know where one stands in a place like this.” Thor said solemnly. “It’s a lot to balance here, with the girls and feeling like I am… still failing constantly.” Valkyrie knew how Thor felt about his failings, she had been at his side when he destroyed his home, when he lost his eye and his brother. “Its hard to feel like anything here matters.”

But it had to matter, because this was the only way he would know his daughter, this was the only way his daughter would have a father hat honestly loved her, not the horrid version of himself that he had been told about. The one who abandoned the children of his fallen friends to live on Asgard while his own daughter fought an impossible enemy.

She took the fall, rolling backwards and up onto her toes. She didn't waste time, pushing right off the ground to get in close to exchange strikes with him. She was as quick footed as ever, light on her feet and comfortable.

"I don't think you're failing - though in this place I have a hard time figuring out what that would even mean'" she knew, and sighed even as she fought with him. "It matters to your daughter, here. Now. We can't change the past, maybe we can't change the future, but you can handle the now."

She smiled even as she tried to punch him in the face. "I'm glad you get the chance here to know her."

Thor was distracted by the conversation for the moment, just narrowly blocking the punch that she sent at his face. He took a step back and readjusted his stance, no-- he would wait for her to rush at him again, and he would flip her.

“It matters to me too… in that sense.” He frowned, “I do not know what… other me was thinking, sending her to live orphaned on earth or why I wouldn’t fight Ultron myself---” He had to stop himself, he felt himself growing red hot in anger at someone he didn’t know, one that was supposed to be him. He felt electricity crinkle off of him.

Val didn't mind too much - she didn't mind getting a little bruised (it wouldn't last after all) and she knew she could wipe the floor with him if she really wanted to. There weren't too many she couldn't - but part of being a good warrior was knowing when to give it your all and when to just give your partner a good workout. Which was what she intended to do with Thor.

"Focus on me." she snapped her fingers in front of his face before turning it into a punch - she didn't care if she got zapped, she could handle it - but she didn't need him beating himself up either. "I am sure there were reasons - Thor - there always are. They do not have to make sense to us, they aren't our choices. Different circumstances. Different choices." she reminded him.
