Who: Ickle Steve (That's Capsickle to you) and Darcy Lewis
What: Wandering Goodland and being a bit overwhelmed
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: Wandering a strange new world
Warnings: Probably not

This was not home. This was not even remotely like home. It was louder, and busier, and...honestly, so much to process Steve didn't even know where to begin. Maybe he should have been putting more thought into the how, but he was too caught up in trying to find something familiar that he hadn't really taken the time to consider ending up here at all and what exactly that meant.

The cars were so different, and there were so many. The shiny box thing he'd found in his pocket kept making noises, but he couldn't figure out how to make it stop. He'd tried pressing the buttons but that had only made the noises louder, so he'd shoved it back in his pocket.

What he needed to do was find someone he thought could help him. But everyone walking past him on the street had seemed in such a hurry, and had barely paid him a scrap of attention. With any luck if he kept walking he'd eventually find something remotely familiar, or maybe even someone he knew. Maybe Bucky was here. He'd probably know what was going on.

Darcy was bored. She was beyond bored. She was mind-numbingly bored and that was never a good thing. If someone were to ask her Dad, he'd say that was when she had always gotten into the most trouble. Like it was her fault her idea of fun didn't always align with what other people thought. Whatever, they were boring too. So Darcy was finding some trouble fun to get into. Starting with ice cream. Ice cream was always a good start. And luckily (or lickily? Maybe lickily), she'd found a Visa card with her name on it.

She was walking back to the apartment building with a triple scoop of sweet cream ice cream with brownies, macadamia nuts, white chips, and caramel sauce in a cup that was nearly the size of her face in hand when she noticed a tow-headed cutie on the street looking lost. He was obviously younger than her, maybe 10 or 11ish, and there was something about the way he held himself that screamed HALP to her. So she hurried to catch up with him, shoving her dark hair away from her face with her free hand, licking a little excess caramel sauce from her lips.

"Everything okay here, kid? You look a little out of sorts."

Steve looked up at when someone approached him. He didn't recognise her, but then that was hardly surprising. And at least she wasn't ignoring him. She was definitely older than him, though he didn't think by much. Though he couldn't use her relatively short stature as much of a gauge there. He was used to people his own age towering over him.

"Hi," he replied, one hand scratching the back of his head in a slightly nervous gesture. Anything he told her was probably going to sound crazy. "Do I? I guess I am out of sorts. A bit lost, too."

He held out a hand in greeting, because it was just good manners, really. "I'm Steve."

Ohmigosh, this kid was adorable.

Darcy smiled and stabbed her spoon into the melty tower of ice cream so she could take his hand. "Hi Steve. I'm Darcy. Sorry if my hand is sticky. Caramel gets everywhere." She didn't think she'd made that big of a mess of herself yet, but a person never knew.

"Are you new here too?"

He laughed a little bit at her apology, the words helping to calm his nerves a little. "That is a very big bowl of ice cream."

It was with an immense sense of relief that he responded to her question. "Yeah. I just got here. I don't really know how. It's very different." But some things seemed almost the same, too. He didn't know how or why. It was just a feeling. "I was looking for someone I recognise. Or something."

"I am treating myself because I can," she said with a laugh. "I have an extra spoon if you want some. I don't have cooties or anything, I promise." She pulled the wrapped plastic spoon out of her back pocket and extended it toward Steve. He was having a rough day. He deserved some ice cream, too.

"I've been here a few days and I can say with absolute confidence that this place is a little nuts." As if the herd of free-roaming ostriches wasn't a clue. "People seem pretty helpful. No one has tried to shove me into a windowless van or anything yet, but the day's still young, so I guess it could still happen. I'm pretty sure it won't though."

It was nice of her to offer. She certainly didn't have to. And it wasn't every day he got to have ice cream. He took the offered spoon. "That's very kind of you." He didn't quite know how to go about eating ice cream in the middle of the street, though.

"I guess that's good news." His response was a little uncertain. He hadn't honestly considered it on the list of possible things that might happen here. "Where abouts do you stay?" If she'd been here more than a day, she must have somewhere to sleep.

This standing and eating thing was going to get old real fast, she could tell. So Darcy lead Steve over to the curb, beside a light pole, and took a seat on the sidewalk. Maybe her butt would get dirty, maybe it wouldn't. That was a problem for Future Darcy.

"Did you wake up in an apartment building?" she asked, watching him. "In there. Everyone like us, the people who just showed up, live in there."

Sitting on the sidewalk eating ice cream wasn't going to help him figure anything out in a hurry. But Darcy was being kind, and he'd been walking around for a while now. He could use a break. He sat beside her, eyes on the building opposite.

"No, I was in an alley. I don't really remember waking up I was just there." It had been strange, to say the least. "I thought I was still at home, at first."
