Bruce was having the weird dream with the dinosaurs again when he woke up to the sun hitting his face. That was weird, too. His mom usually woke him up before the sun did cause he had to get ready for school. So he opened his eyes and...

"Mommy?" This wasn't his room. It wasn't Mom and Dad's room. It wasn't even Grandma's room. Where was he? "Daaaad?" Something wasn't right. It felt wrong. This wasn't his room, his mom wasn't coming running when he yelled for her... Opening his mouth, he let out a desperate, terrified scream.

Climbing out of bed as quickly as he could, he ran to the bedroom door and threw himself out. "Moooooom?" Nope. No Mom out there either. She had to be somewhere. He rushed to the first door he could find and threw it open. "Daddy? Mom?" Oh. Oops. That wasn't Mom. She was very pretty, but she wasn't Bruce's mommy at all. "I'm sorry. Do you know where my mom is?"

Val had worked out and was just getting changed when she heard the scream and nearly collided with wee!Bruce when he came into her room. She caught him before he did run into her.

"Hey who are you parents?" She asked as she crouched down to be on his level, oh shit why did this have to happen to her? She really had been hoping to avoid this mess. She'd only seen a little on the network.

Oops? Sigh okay she got this.

	"I don't know!" He was not going to cry. No, he was a big boy and he wouldn't cry. All he had to do was think logically. There had to be a rational reason. 	She smiled gently (why her?) And held out her hand. "I'm Valkyrie,see no longer a stranger. Are you hungry?" She asked, seeing how it was morning. She did not look reassuring. She looked like the tall, smart, brave warrior that she was. And that was a little intimidating. But he had to be brave, too. "Valkyrie is a funny name," he said with a tiny smile. "I'm Bruce!"

Perfect. Like she said, now they weren't strangers anymore. Mommy and Daddy couldn't possibly be mad about that, right? "I'm a little bit hungry. But um." No, he couldn't say he was scared. She seemed nice, but what if she really was a kidnapper? "I still don't know where Mommy and Daddy are."

Food first, then parents? Okay. Yeah, okay, he could live with that arrangement. Unless... He narrowed his eyes skeptically. "Isn't that what a kidnapper would say? Like, if I get in the van to see the puppies or eat the candy, then you'll call my mom?"

He had taken his Street Smarts assemblies very seriously, after all. The expression on his far too tiny face was intense as he studied her. "You're not gonna kill me, are you? And leave me somewhere else?"

	She rocked back on her heels, "Nope. I'm gonna do what I can to help." She didn't know how to do any of this. Norns help her, she really really was not good at this. "Oh, then you would be a bad kidnapper. All the good kidnappers at least have candy." And puppies. Or maybe a kitten! "I don't have a puppy, either, so I guess we got that the same."

He scrunched his face up thoughtfully. "And you don't drive a van. And you're not fat and bald." Because all the kidnappers on tv were all of those things. "Okay, I guess you're not gonna kidnap me!"

It was the scientific explanation, after all. "Miss Valkyrie, do you have sugar hoops?"

"I would be." She agreed with him on that, she would be a horrible kidnapper. She was dying, tiny Bruce was adorable, Norns have mercy.

"I do not drive at all." She squinted at him, though, after a moment.

"What are sugar hoops?" She had no idea. Donuts? It had to be donuts. Which she did not have at all. Her food was healthy or alcoholic. She was pretty sure you didn't spoil children with healthy food and certainly not alcoholic beverages.

"Mommy says if you you live in the city you don't gotta drive but we live in the 'burbs'." Of course, Valkyrie likely had no idea what any of that actually meant but Bruce certainly didn't know that. Cleveland was a large city, of course it had smaller cities nearby!

His mouth dropped open as if she had just broken the news that the Tooth Fairy wasn't real - a fact he wasn't entirely certain on and he wanted to investigate that further with his next lost tooth. "It's only the best cereal! All kinds of different colors and it smells like fruit!" It didn't really taste like any specific fruit, but that was okay. It was still pretty yummy.

Yeah, Valkyrie had zero idea. She was scrambling mentally to try to handle this. "That's very true - it's a lot easier to get around without a car in the city." she said as if she had a clue what he was on about.

Oh, oh, she'd seen these fruit loop looking things in the store. "Oh, I don't have any, but we can go get some if you'd like?" okay he was kind of adorable in that analytical but still smol child sort of way.

	Bruce beamed up at her with a look that clearly said she didn't need to go through all that trouble. "We don't gotta go to the store! I eat lots of stuff. Daddy says he's glad I'm not a picky eater." Some of his friends were 'picky eaters'. Daddy didn't tend to invite them over for meals. "What do you like to eat for breakfast, we can share!" 	SHe would, cause tiny Bruce is adorable, even if she's bad at being anything like a mom. She's a good aunt. "That's good to know. I have stuff to make pancakes with, will that work?" "Pancakes!" That was even more exciting than sugar hoops. Mommy usually made him eat a slightly more healthy breakfast but he had been sent off to a new place so surely she wouldn't complain about him having some special-occasion-looking-for-mom-and-dad pancakes. With syrup.

"I can help if you need me to. I'm good at stirring." Well. He might need a chair to stand on. But otherwise, A+ stirring, he should get a sticker for how good his stirring was.

	She smiled, "okay we'll make pancakes." She held out her hand as they headed to the kitchen, where she'd get him a chair, and then get everything to make pancakes.
