Dating remained something of a foreign concept to Diana. She had seen movies, read a multitude of books on the subject, and overheard coworkers at the museum chatting about them. She had never been on one herself, not really, unless one counted dancing with her Steve during the war. That was as close as she had ever been with a man, Steve Trevor. She was staring at the photograph of him that Bruce had given her before even coming to Goodland, one she had kept close in every capacity: Diana and the so-called Wonder Men.

Being trapped by the past, whether the war or the eighties, she knew it was a difficult vice to break. From what she had learned about Steve Rogers, he shared a similar struggle. She liked to believe it was part of what had drawn her to him and Bucky in the first place, a group of people frozen in a period of time long since lost. They struggled in the present, but coped. She had lived through it, but in isolation. Could that even be considered living at all?

So, the loss of the person who had been the first to call her out on that tendency was a blow. She could and would handle it, but sought distractions. The last thing she had expected was it to come in the form of Steve, who had been seemingly avoiding her like the plague, to ask her out. She was incredibly fond of him, admired him greatly, so for him to consider her in that regard--well, touched didn't begin to cover it. Beyond that, Diana had never thought of anyone romantically. In some ways, she thought it would always be Steve. Bearing a demigoddess heart had its drawbacks, humans learned to let go; the gods never really could.

Still, there was enough Amazon in her that she could learn--and she wanted to. So, she donned a simple, but elegant white dress and let her hair down in waves over her shoulders. Staring at herself in the mirror, she smiled at the prospect of the night. It would be difficult not to look back on that picture when they returned home and feel guilty, but that was a worry for later.

For now, she could try to concentrate on the presence and the little bit of excitement going out with him granted her.

Fully dressed, she emerged from the room, a clutch purse to match her dress in hand. Peering about for any sign of him, she stood in the doorway of her room in a temporary state of anxiety until she saw him emerge and sighed in relief.

"Is this alright...?" She asked, gesturing to her dress.

That conflict was a difficult feeling to reconcile, and he nodded in understanding. "It is. It feels like going home is something we should always want, and yet..." He shrugged. "It's really not that simple." Here, there was so much to miss. Time with his friend, who had finally been freed from everything that had been done to him. Tony and Natasha alive. And all those new friendships forming, much like this one.

"I think I was the opposite," he laughed. "I wasn't a hermit back home, and yet here I was, for a time. Until your influence stopped me of course." He smiled to show he didn't mean it badly. "It isn't. Of course, all that drama happening so soon after I arrived helped with that." All that fighting going on, he'd hardly have been able to keep his distance from people, even if he'd truly wanted to. There were times, of course, when he wanted his solitude. Usually late at night when memories caught up with him. But Steve had always preferred the company of people. Of his friends.

"I had some help," he admitted. "Darcy found it. It looked nice." Casual and inviting, not too formal. It was what he'd thought would be best for a first dinner date. If this did become a first of several. He opened the door, gesturing for her to precede him. "Shall we go in?"

"Not that simple because... there are many reasons to want to stay," she finished tentatively, smiling over at him. The bonds she had made with both him and Bucky were incredibly important to Diana. Friendships forged in the heat of battle so often were, but that wasn't entirely the case with their trio. This one had been largely formed at the breakfast table first, which she loved.

"It's hard to picture you out and about!" Diana laughed in return, only slightly skeptical. "Did I really influence you that much? For some time, I feared I was pestering you beyond your comfort zone." In some ways, Dianad had seen a lot of herself in Steve. Naturally, the instinct to help and care for others had kicked in and prompted her to try to reach him the same way Bruce had, in his own way, done for Diana.

"Pass my thanks on to her," she insisted, smiling at his chivalry and nodded appreiatively. "We shall." Stepping inside, she looked about the restaurant with an almost childlike wonder. Despite living for so long in Man's World, the splendor of it had yet to fade for Diana, especially in places like this that seemed a little more off the beaten path.

"There are," he agreed easily. "More every day." Continuing to get to know Diana was one of those reasons, yes. But there were others. Spending time with James, if the kid would ever allow it. Time spent with Bucky. It was all important to him.

"Is it?" He had to laugh at that. "I didn't realise I had got quite that bad. I guess...this place was a lot to take in, at first. But hiding away is never a good idea. Tonight is proof of that." He offered her another small smile at the comment. Facing what he'd been so unsure about had led to a far better outcome than avoiding had done for him.

There was something incredibly endearing about the way her face lit up that way. He gave the server their name and they were led to a table by the window. "I'll do that." Darcy had earned far more than simple thanks from him, and he'd have to think on that for a while to best figure out how to repay her. Even if something told him she'd decline any effort on his part.

"So," he began as they were seated. "Why Greek food? A favourite, or something you haven't tried before?"

Happy to be seated across from him, she slid her hands under the table and folded them neatly on her lap in an almost uncharacteristically shy manner. It was a valid question, one that gave her a nostalgic smile as she glanced out the window. Being so far removed and unable to return to Themyscira, now more than ever, left Diana pining away for things that reminded her of home. It was an underlying motivation for her care for the demigods, but certainly not the only reason.

"It is the only substitute, the best substitute, I have found for food from home. It isn't completely the same, but..." She looked back at Steve and gave the tiniest shrug. "It is enough. You've had it before, I hope?"

A momentary look of worry crossed her features. "If you don't like it, I am very sorry. I would gladly make it up to you by going elsewhere if that happens, Steve." Granted she knew he'd asked her what she'd wanted, Diana still cared more about everyone else around her preferred as opposed to personal desires.
