Who: Jean Grey & Erik Lehnsherr
What: Catching up over soda
When: Not long after this
Where: Random cafe
Rating: Low / TBD
Status: Closed / In Progress

Jean sat at the table outside and sipped at her soda. The streets were busy but it was less crowded outside than in and she needed a bit of space. After having sent Erik a psychic ping of where she was and read through the comments on his post, she closed her eyes and just breathed in, trying to focus on herself, close her senses in to just her own. Narrow her mind the way she'd been taught by the Professor to quieten the noises. Shouting at people didn't work, it made her telekinesis act out and that was the last thing she needed right now even though she could feel it rippling underneath her skin, the whisper to just do.

She pushed it back, breathed in deeply through her nose, focusing her attention on seeking Erik out in the crowd. Her range had increased dramatically since she had become the host for the Phoenix. She was there, warm and present and Jean knew that she was coiled, waiting to be unleashed as soon as she could be. She was mindful of what Emma had said, how she needed to make sure that she was never complacent, and perhaps she had been a little. Spending time in the cosmos together, building planets instead of tearing them down had made Jean think perhaps there was something there, a symbiosis. But perhaps she was being foolish.

Either way, her thoughts were redirected when she sensed a familiar presence. It was a relief, feeling it so close to her even as she was visibly struggling, flinching with the overlapping sounds that babbled into her mind, spilling past the barriers she'd tried to erect around her mind. Her fingers tightened in a napkin, twisting it in her fist as she opened her eyes to see Erik approaching and getting to her feet to greet him.

Her fingers touched her temple briefly, just a bit of pressure before she pushed her hair back behind her ear and she looked at him, pleased to see him but also apprehensive. The last time they had seen each other had been tense, she'd ruined things for him on his island and he'd come to kill them, she was sure of it. He hadn't done, but she'd left without knowing where they stood and she respected him - and his pain - too much to just take the information from his mind, even though it would have been so... so easy to-

"Erik," she said, chewing the inside of her lower lip.

It was true that Erik had been intent on killing Jean but then it had been for the greater good which strangely enough he'd been more capable of seeing than Charles and his "X-Men" though that was behind them considering that a lot of time had passed. The mere fact that Jean was here, alive, and seemingly in some sort of union with the entity that possessed her was curious at best. It was unfortunate that she'd appeared now and not when Charles had been present in Goodland as he knew his old friend would have liked to have known that Jean was alive.

He could have just as easily taken a cab but Erik had wanted to get a better look at Goodland and the best way to do that was from the skies. Unsurprisingly the Earth's magnetic fields reacted to him as powerfully here as they did anywhere else which meant rising above the steady footfall of pedestrian was like riding a bicycle. He'd taken his time with the tour until he'd glanced at his watch and noticed it was time to meet Jean so he gently manipulated the fields to allow him to move in the right direction.

Erik touched down and chose to walk the remaining distance to where Jean was sat and he didn't need to be psychic to sense just how nervous she was. Understandable all things considered.

"Jean," he greeted with a small smile. "You're looking well."

"Considering you watched me disappear into the atmosphere?" Jean asked, eyebrow lifting even as she sat down again now that Erik had joined her. She swallowed, smoothed her hand over the table cloth, plucking and dropping some non-existent lint just to keep her hands busy.

She glanced up at him, then over at the waiter trying to make eye contact but he wasn't paying attention so she supposed it wouldn't hurt them to wait. They certainly had some catching up to do, and Jean wanted to make sure that she understood where she... well, where she stood.

"But thank you. You as well, you've hardly changed." She was hopeful that meant that very little time had passed for him, but she supposed she wouldn't be that lucky. She wondered if he'd met Emma yet, and how he was feeling considering how close he and the Emma in their world had become.

"Exactly," he affirmed with a nod of his head as he took a seat across the table from Jean and frowned as she failed to get the waiter's attention. Erik just sat back in his chair and all but demanded that the waiter pay attention which he did, thankfully, and made a big show of hurrying over with apologies flying here there and everywhere.

Erik turned his attention back to Jean. "After you."

Once she had ordered a drink for herself Erik put in an order for a dark coffee with no cream and only one sugar before he looked back at Jean. "I'll take that as a compliment," he answered with the smallest trace of a smirk.

Jean ordered another soda when the waiter came over and shook her head slightly at the way Erik had just managed to command the people around them with just his presence. She'd seen the old videos of him in the 1960s and 1970s before he'd retired to Genosha, she'd seen the way people flocked to him. She had, seeking solace and comfort and someone who understood what she was going through.

He'd tried, but she'd known that if she told him the truth he would have wanted to kill her. And she'd done enough killing, accidentally or not. She wouldn't have been able to contain the Phoenix if she and Erik had gone head to head, she'd lost control of them both when the soliders had come, after all.

"How long has it been?" she asked, eyes moving back to look at Erik and away from the bored waitress who was thinking mean thoughts about every single client she was dealing with. "Since the train?"

"A few years give or take," Erik replied as he idly stirred his coffee without so much as touching his spoon as using his powers came to him as naturally as breathing and he saw no reason not to whenever the opportunity arose.

He angled his head to regard Jean very closely as whilst he couldn't see any tell tale signs of the Phoenix the same way he had when she'd made that display of power in Genosha he knew that it was there, just beneath the surface.

"Do you recall what it is you did in those years?"

"I don't know how long it's been for me," Jean confessed, watching the spoon moving at Erik's command. Their abilities allowed them to do some similar things, albeit very differently. "I don't think it's been years... It all feels like yesterday."

She leaned back in her seat and called her glass to her outstretched hand, curling her fingers around it and taking a sip. The condensation felt cool against her palm, something to focus on as she thought about watching her family get smaller and smaller as she took Vuk up into the atmosphere, into the dark void of space, knowing she'd never get to see them again.

"But yes, I remember travelling with her."

"So, it's a her then" Erik inquired, curious as always. Why wouldn't he be? The Phoenix force was seemingly all powerful and it never hurt to know more about something like that especially when it was still being housed within one Jean Grey.

He took a sip from his coffee and then clasped his hands together.

"Are you and her at peace with one another?"
