Tony & Peter
WHO: Tony Stark & Peter Parker
WHAT: Hashing out some stuff.
WHERE: Peter’s bedroom
WHEN: Wednesday, 3/4
WARNINGS: Tony’s mouth!
SPOILERS: Endgame/FFH
STATUS: Threading

Tony had a lot on his mind since talking to Happy about the events with Beck. Peter had touched on some things when he got the memories, but now that Tony knew the extent of the man’s insanity, he wanted to make sure Peter was truly okay. That, and well, a lot of things changed in Goodland since they arrived. It had been just the two of them and now there were way more people in their family. Tony hoped Peter still thought of them as family anyway. Perhaps Tony needed the assurance more than Peter did? Either way, he wanted to check in with the kid, one on one, just like the old days.

He knocked on his door after dinner. “Kid? You have a few?”

"Yeah, sure. Come in," Peter called from his desk. He had his laptop open along with a notebook and his English book, determined to finish his homework. It wasn't that it was difficult so much as there was simply a lot of it. Maybe it wasn't so difficult because he'd kind of already lived through his junior year? Sort of. Gaining memories was weird, and he wasn't entirely sure he liked it. More because he felt disconnected to a lot of them than because of what they were, though they weren't all good. Was it better to be detached from them or to have experienced them first hand? They still affected him, but he didn't think it was the same as if he'd come here with the memories in tact in the first place. It was, to him, almost like knowing he existed in multiple universes, only this time he'd gotten a view of one world's Peter, or a moment in his life, at least.

"What's up?" he asked a few seconds later, looking over to his door as he set his pencil down.

Tony crossed the room and perched on the corner of Peter's desk. "I wanted to check in," he admitted. "It has been a crazy few weeks, hm?" He placed a hand on Peter's shoulder. "How are you doing?"

"Fine," he said. "Thinking about ice cream," which wasn't untrue at all. It sounded good despite their latest adventures with candy, and he was pretty sure he had some left in the freezer. It'd make a great post homework snack. "And all this homework," he added, gesturing to his desk. "It really piles up when things go sideways. You'd think they'd take it easy, understand it's no one's fault. At least give extensions on essays and reading assignments. But nope. At least not my teachers." Which was really just ridiculous as far as Peter was concerned.

Tony chuckled. "If you need help, you know where to find me, especially if ice cream is the reward." He squeezed the shoulder beneath his hand and tried to think of a decent segue for his intended topic. "Happy and I talked about a few things," he said finally, "future things, that is."

"Yeah?" his mind flashed to a hypothetical future, and he wondered if Happy had come from way farther than he thought. Had he and May... Did they get married or something? He wasn't sure he wanted to know about that. He thought Happy was a great guy, and he knew May deserved happiness, but he wasn't ready to think about everything it'd entail if May ever did get married again. He wondered if he could call no spoilers on this conversation, thinking that that was something he was fine not knowing until he got there. The proper way.

"What'd he say," Peter asked, curious, deciding to risk the spoilers for the moment.

"Beck," Tony replied. "E.D.I.T.H." He removed his hand from Peter's shoulder and crossed his arms as if protecting himself from the truth. "I know you got some memories a few months ago..." Shit, where did he think this conversation was going? "It is a lot to unpack," he finished.

"It is, but it's not?" he said, trying to figure out how to explain it. Everything that had happened from the time he'd clung to the outside of that spaceship until when his memories stopped on Tower Bridge were his memories, but they weren't, either. It'd been a lot to suddenly have those memories, way too fresh in the moment without having any distance between all the events that had happened. He'd had everything, but he also had his time in Goodland overlapping it all, which just made it all the stranger. And definitely made it weird to sort through. Still, he thought it'd be different if he'd done it all in the moment instead of merely remembering doing it.

"It's like a hyper realistic dream that happened to someone else. Like a Peter in another reality had all these things happen because the reality split at the moment I came here. So that Peter had all this stuff happen, and I somehow got his memories. Like a weird dream movie thing. It's like it happened, and I know it happened, but I was here, not there, so it's like it didn't really happen to me but another version of me.

"And I'm really sorry about E.D.I.T.H. and giving it to Beck," he said hastily. "I just wanted to be Peter, not Iron Man two-point-oh or even Spider-Man in the moment, and Fury seemed to trust him, and he's supposed to have a knack for that stuff, right? But he didn't, and Beck was there, and you weren't, and it was such a stupid mistake. I didn't know he wasn't who he said he was. Or, I guess, that Peter didn't know. This Peter -- me -- has perspective Other Me doesn't because it all happened at once for me but not him." And boy wasn't that just confusing?

"But I -- the other me -- managed to stop him. And it all kind of turned out okay. London's probably mad, though. Other Me might have to hold off on any return trips in his near future. Just in case. Assuming he's not chased out of town," he said, suddenly hoping future London wasn't too upset with his other self for not stopping Mysterio sooner.

Tony nodded as Peter talked about feeling like he saw the memories through the lens of another version of himself. Something similar happened to Tony when he temporarily aged up a few years, after all.

Tony held a hand up when Peter apologized about E.D.I.T.H., but didn't interrupt. He actually smiled when the boy mentioned London being mad. "You're a hero, kid," he said. "Get used to whole countries getting pissed at you." He ruffled Peter's hair. "Don't you dare apologize for anything. Beck took advantage of...of your grief. I'm proud of you."

Peter didn't really want whole countries -- or even just cities -- pissed at him. He supposed, however, that was another Peter's problem. He didn't think that Peter would want it, either, but he hoped that the people saw that that Spider-Man had been trying to help. Besides, London had survived a lot worse, right? And he, or at least some version of himself, had helped see to that. Even so, he thought his other, future self might want to stick to more domestic heroing, at least for a little while. Until he was needed.

"I--Thanks," he said, giving Tony a smile. "That means a lot." He might not have been the Peter who'd gone through everything, but it was still apart of his future, and it still meant a lot to know that Tony was proud of him, even if he'd messed up in a pretty big way.

Tony nodded. He was glad he was more open with his kids than Howard had been with him; they deserved to know they were loved and that he was proud of them. "So," he said, changing topics, "how is everything else? You good with everything here? With May..." He trailed off, uncertain how to finish his thought.

"Yeah, I'm good," Peter said, meaning it. "It'd be nice if there were some more stability, less weirdness, but I'm good.

"And May's, well, I can't speak for her, but I'm glad she's here. I'm glad you're both here," he said with a smile. He wasn't sure what he'd do if both of them left. He'd figure it out, he knew that, but a selfish part of himself didn't want to have to figure it out.

Tony was relieved to hear it, even if he hated needing the validation. "I told you, you are stuck with me." He lifted Peter's chin in his hand. "You are my son now."

"I'm good with that," he said, looking up into Tony's face. "We're family, and I'm good with that," he said again, smiling.

Peter calling them family felt good. Tony smiled and dropped a kiss on the boy's forehead. "Go on," he said, "Sorry I interrupted you." He gestured to the books.

Peter shook his head a little, smiling and saying, "No need to be sorry. I don't mind the break. It's just original poetry for the unit in English." Was it cheating if he used what he'd done in a previous universe? Were there rules against that? But if he'd already done it, and he were only plagiarizing himself...

"A break from that's always welcomed," he finished with a smile.
