Remus & Teddy Lupin

1/25, evening , Medical Clinic , TBD

I swear that I'll be around for you | I'll do whatever it takes

Remus scrubbed a hand over his face. He hadn't left the chair by his son's bed since he arrived the day before. His moon exhaustion was forgotten, though he'd slept hard every time he allowed himself to doze. Seeing Teddy laying in that bed was overwhelming. He looked like his grandfather, and Remus spent hours just watching him sleep. He'd been floored when Hugo told him he had a son. He could barely believe it, but there was no denying what he saw and smelled. Weird as that sounded, Teddy smelled like his. He would know his boy anywhere, even though he wasn't much of a boy anymore.

Louis was right. There wasn't anything Remus could do to help, and every time a doctor came in to check on Teddy, he moved out of the way, standing in a corner till they were gone. He left only when they insisted that he eat. He didn't want to. He thought watching his boy made it easier to imagine him small and growing. He pictured reading Teddy bedtime stories and teaching him early bits of magic. Remus tried to figure out who his mother was by his features, but he didn't know. He might not have met her yet. "Sirius and James would get a kick out of this," he murmured.

Teddy had been keeping up in the battle, which only reaffirmed his desire to become a hitwizard when her grew up. But he was angry, so angry at everyone and everything-- he was sixteen and had gotten the chance to meet his father and then lost him. He had a lot to be angry about and Voldemort was just a convenient place to let that rage out… except he got sloppy. There was a blasting charm and a large chunk of concrete had smacked him in the head, leaving him knocked out with a large gash over his forehead.

When he did finally come too, some days later, Teddy didn’t know where he was. He roused himself slowly, sitting up a bit faster than maybe he should have when he spotted his father. His father as the older, softly graying man from the pictures, and not the twenty something year old he had come to know. Teddy stared for a moment before letting him fall back unceremoniously onto the medical bed.

“I knew it. I’ve died. I’m dead.” He said to himself, completely ignoring the other man in the room for a moment. Of course, he didn’t think that if he were really dead he would be in as much pain as he was now, but fuck, what else could he do in that moment.

Remus's head shot up, and he watched Teddy process where he was and what he was feeling. His initial reaction, his assumption that he was dead, hurt Remus's heart in a way he would explore later. There was a lump in his throat, giving his voice a hard, gravelly edge. "Not dead." He cleared his throat hard. "You're very much alive, Teddy. I wanted to be here when you woke up. I hope that's okay."

Standing, Remus moved to the pitcher at his son's bedside and poured him a glass of water. His hands shook, but he managed to not make a fool of himself and kept the water from sloshing. "Sips only until you're sure your stomach will accept it."

Teddy took a few steadying breaths as his dad began to talk to him. This was real. His dad was back. His dad was here and he… seemed to really want to be his dad. Did that mean that he already knew? Did he come from his death?

Teddy allowed himself to sit up again, slower this time, and accept the water from his father. He took a careful sip, suddenly realizing how dry his lips and mouth felt. He ran a hand through his hair, which flickered from brown to blue for a moment. “It’s fine. So, you know about me?” He asked, that would help him gauge where his father was from.

“Do you know… if we got rid of Voldemort?” Teddy asked him. He had been knocked out before the end of the battle. He looked around the room quickly, but didn’t see anyone else from the battle there.

"Aye, I do. Bit of a shock when Hugo told me." Remus pulled his chair closer to Teddy's bed and sat so they were facing each other. "I never thought I would have a kid, let alone find someone I could and wanted to have one with." He sat forward, forearms resting on his knees. "You were one of those wildest dreams I never allowed myself to dwell on because of a number of factors that don't seem important with you here." Remus cleared, sitting back in his chair, and ran his hand through his hair nervously before dropping it to his lap.

"You did. I heard you all fought impressively, and he was gone before I arrived. You've been asleep a couple of days." He looked at Teddy's face closely, scanning for signs of pain or anything. "Do you need anything?"
