morgan & alice
"I'm going to make this better"
Who: Morgan Stark and Alice Williams
What: An encounter with Jafar and an accident
Where: Right outside the villa then Morgan's lab
When: Friday January 24th
Warnings: Probably some angst but also fluff
Status: Threading

It all happened so fast.

She was walking with Alice, hand in hand, when they passed the front entrance of the villa and spotted Jafar lurking. For the most part, Morgan had managed to steer clear of the fighting. She wasn’t sure if it was because she didn’t want to put more stress on her parents, or because she was second-guessing herself after the maze. To be honest, it was probably the latter. She didn’t have any desire to experience the night she almost gave up again.

But, Morgan couldn’t just allow the Disney villain come to life to cause any harm. “Don’t be afraid, Alice,” she said allowing her suit to envelope her before bolting out the door.

His magic was relentless sure, but his snide comments only fueled her anger. It didn’t take too long to gain the upper hand, and it seemed to be over quicker than it even started. But, then, she was turning back toward the building, and it felt like time immediately stopped. One look at Alice’s exposed wires and blue blood and Morgan felt like the ground was going to swallow her whole.

Guilt consumed her as she rushed over and gathered the girl into her arms. Stupid, Morgan. So stupid. Why didn’t you tell her to stay inside? Her fault. This was her fault, but she could blame herself later. Right now, she needed to fix this. “Hang on, Alice. It’s okay. I’m going to make this better.”

With the girl held safely in her grasp, she took to the sky and flew as fast as she could to her lab.

Alice had only gone out to make sure Morgan was safe. Alice knew that she wasn’t a fighter, but she knew that she could call someone if Morgan needed help. She had only just stepped out of the door when something--- a beam of light that she couldn’t even really tell where it came from-- struck her in the shoulder.

Alice didn’t feel pain. She could feel the heat of impact, and the wetness of the blue blood leaking from her hoses, and maybe even the sparking of one of the wires. She could smell the burn where some of the plastic had melted on the wires, where the shirt she had been wearing had singed. But she didn’t feel pain, it was not hotwired into her programming. She did, however, feel fear as the malfunction warning flashed across her senses.

She tried to move her arm, and it moved in a vague direction that she’d willed it, but it was jerky and strange and there was a bit of a whimper on her lips when Morgan began to scoop her up. She leaned into Morgan, her non-injured arm wrapping around her neck as she nuzzled into her as they took off.

“Morgan,” She couldn’t help but whine. “Morgan my arm is broken.” She knew that Morgan said she would never throw her away, but who wanted a girl who couldn’t use one arm? And surely the kids who saw her wires would treat her differently. Thats what always happened, wasn’t it? And what if she ran out of Blue Blood? They couldn't just buy some here like they could at home. She clung to Morgan tightly as she thought of all the things that could go wrong.

Alice's whimper broke Morgan's heart, and the way her arm jerked was concerning. She knew that the girl couldn't feel pain, but it wasn't pain she was worried about. She had spent enough time with the tiny android to know that her fear of being recycled ran deep right alongside her fear of others not accepting her for what she was. It angered Morgan greatly that this child, who she cared for deeply, had to worry about any of that. She went to great lengths to ensure Alice that she was safe and loved, and now? Now she was responsible for those fears she was sure were running through the girl's mind.

She would never forgive herself.

Morgan held her close as they flew, her voice trying to soothe her as much as possible. "Shhhh. It's okay, Alice. I'm going to fix your arm. I promise." Once they reach Stark Industries, she ran through the halls until she reached her lab doors and pushed through them. Placing Alice gently on the counter, she retracted her suit and immediately began inspecting the girl's arm. "I'm so sorry. This shouldn't have happened." Her eyes stung with tears, but she had to focus. She could cry later.

Dingy hopped over to where Alice was sitting and gave her a little purring noise. "Sit here with Dingy while I get what I need, okay?"

Alice knew Morgan well enough to know that she didn't break promises, but that didnt quite ease her fear. Even as a child, Alice knew that sometimes things just couldnt be fixed. She had seen Todd smash the first Kara into unfixable pieces and Cyberlife had to replace her.

She tried to put on a brave face though, as she saw Morgan's sad look. She hadnt meant to be trouble! Alice frowned a little and pet the top of Dingy's head as he purred.

"I just wanted to make sure you were okay." Alice said softly, "I was going to call for help if you'd needed it." She felt like she had to explain why she was outside. Maybe that would make Morgan less upset.

Alice let out another soft whimper when she looked down at her arm finally. It looked bad. "I can't run out of the blue stuff." She told Morgan, suddenly realizing that she might not know, and a slight panic rising in her voice. "It keeps us running and only Cyberlife makes it so we cant even just buy some like we can at home."

Once she returned with the tools she needed to work, she placed them all down, then moved to brush a strand of Alice's hair that had fallen out of the braids Morgan had woven earlier that day. "Hey, no. This isn't your fault. I'm not mad, I promise. I'm upset because you got hurt." She needed Alice to understand she wasn't upset with her. "I should have protected you."

When Alice mentioned the "blue stuff", Morgan instinctively wrapped her hand around the heart necklace she wore that had Markus' blue blood in it. She would use it if she had to. "You're not going to run out," she said- trying desperately to reassure her. Any other time she would be able to ask the Entity for some, but she was certain this 'Vindictive Entity' wouldn't be so kind. She made a mental note to ask for some once things returned to normal in case something like this happened in the future. God, she hoped nothing like this ever happened again though.

"Sit very still okay," she asked softly, pressing a kiss to the top of Alice's head before nodding to Dingy to shine the light on her arm. Then she set to work, trying to salvage as much of the blue blood as she could before focusing on the wires.

“I should have just stayed inside… but I wanted to help you. I didn’t want you to get hurt because I hid.” That had happened before. In Jericho. People got killed because no one would help them, Alice had seen it and she refused to be that person who wouldn’t open the door.

Alice could only nod when Morgan promised she wouldn’t run out of Blue Blood, but she was nervous. She didn’t know what running out felt like, and each error message that rolled behind her eyes made her worry. She tried to be still, but she was also trying to watch Morgan work.

“I…” She started to speak but then paused. “Do you need to turn me off to work with the wires?” She was nervous. She was afraid of being turned off, but surely Morgan would turn her back on again, wouldn’t she? If there was anyone she could trust it would be Morgan.

"You are very brave, thank you for wanting to help me," Morgan said with a smile, hoping to further reassure Alice that she wasn't upset with her. She still blamed herself, of course, but that wasn't likely to change anytime soon.

Once she had preserved as much of Alice's blood as she could, she stopped working so she could look at her. Morgan knew one of the girl's fears was being turned off, but unfortunately, she was right. In order to re-wire the pieces of Alice that had been exposed, she would need to put her to 'sleep'. "I do. It's time for that now, but I promise you that you won't be off long. When you wake up? Your arm won't be broken anymore."

And they could go back home, where Morgan would probably cuddle her for hours.

Alice reached out and touched Morgan’s hair gently. “I don’t ever want anything bad to happen to you. You’re my best friend.” Alice told her softly. It was true. Alice had never had a best friend, or a sister, but she had to imagine it would be like having Morgan.

Alice couldn’t help the drop in her face, or the fear that gripped her. She couldn’t remember ever being turned off before. What if she lost her deviancy? What if she couldn’t remember anything? What if Morgan couldn’t fix her and she never turned her back on?

“I’m scared.” Alice said, her voice shaking a little. “You have to promise that you’re going to turn me back on, Morgan. You have to pinky promise. Even if you can’t fix me, I want you to turn me back on.”

Morgan could swear she felt her heart melt and she carefully leaned in to embrace her. "And I don't want anything bad to ever happen to you. That's why it upset me that you were hurt. I love you, Alice." Ever since that first trip to the zoo, she had viewed the girl as a little sister, one that she would do anything for.

Just as quickly as her heart melted, it began to break when Alice's face fell and the panic laced her words. Pressing another kiss to the top of her head, she linked their pinkies. "I pinky promise that no matter what, even if I can't fix you, I'll turn you back on. Sleep now, sweetheart. I'll see you soon."

She tried to hide her concern with another smile, but inside Morgan was incredibly worried. She never wanted to have to be the one that caused Alice's fear, but there wasn't any way around this. 'There isn't any other way.' That's whats she kept telling herself as she turned the tiny android off, and laid her down on the counter to begin working on her arm.

It took her a couple of hours to make sure everything was back in its rightful place and to run some diagnostics to ensure none of the loose wirings affected the harddrive. She couldn't have lived with herself if anything that made her Alice had been altered.

Taking a deep breath, Morgan wiped at her eyes that teared up when she realized that the girl was going to be okay, and just as she promised- turned Alice back on.

Alice would love to say that she felt better after Morgan pinky promised her, but she was still nervous. She trusted Morgan, but it was a scary thing and she knew sometimes there were… complications. She had to stifle a cry and she felt things around her go black.

It only felt like a few seconds before she saw the boot-up information scroll behind her eyes. Her brain was swimming for a few seconds, as the connections started being made and her memory was restored fully. There were no malfunction warnings, and she opened her eyes, staring straight up at Morgan.

“You turned me on.” Alice whispered, she sat up and basically through herself at the older girl, pulling her into a hug. She pulled back again, and looked at her arm. “And you fixed me!” She hugged her again.

Morgan caught Alice in her arms, a wide smile spreading across her face as she was pulled in a hug. "I did! You're going to be okay." Seeing how relieved the tiny girl was seemed to take away some of her own worrisome thoughts.

"Does it feel okay," Morgan asked, holding onto Alice and reaching to lift the arm she was just working on a few moments prior. She had triple checked everything before waking her, but she wanted to make sure everything was functioning properly.
