Who: Liz and Tony
What: Liz returns
Where: Central Park
When: Late night hours of Thursday
Warning: Vampires

Liz was at Rosa's grave talking to her ( which she knew was dumb because she couldn't hear her but she was doing it anyway ) when she felt it. She felt Max's lifeforce leave her through the handprint on her chest. Dropping the rose at her feet, she ran to her car and relied on the handprint to lead her to him.

What she found there was unexpected; her sister alive and well. Her sister! Her sister had been dead for ten years was suddenly in her arms and Liz was in shock, confused, in tears, and happy all at once. That happiness went away, though, when she put it all together and asked about Max. She couldn't run to the cave fast enough when Rosa told her where she was. Seeing him lying still on the dusty floor, she knew what had happened. He was dead.

Running over to him, she knelt down next to him and began pounding on his chest as she tears fell from her face. As she laid down across his chest and shook him, her sobs echoing in the cave, she was transported back to Goodland. Instead of being in a cave, she was in a park under a streetlamp on the cold grass. All of her memories from her previous time there came rushing back to her and she just sat on the ground defeated. She didn't notice she was being surrounded by vampires until it was too late.

Tony made good on his promise to "officially retire" after Ultron. He wasn't looking for trouble that night; he was merely walking home from the lab. EDITH warned him of danger so he was about to turn the other way when he noticed a familiar form. Was that Liz crouched on the ground? He told himself even if the woman wasn't Liz, he couldn't just leave the person there. It wasn't like he went looking for trouble this time - it found him! He summoned his suit and quickly blasted the vampires before kneeling down. "Liz?" he asked, now sure it was his duckling.

Even in her broken state, Liz wasn't going to let anyone get the best of her. She quickly grabbed what was near her, a long branch from a tree near by, then she stood up and began swinging. She got a few hits on before they all were all blasted away and she fell to the knees to protect herself, her arms around herself. Uncovering herself when she heard Tony's voice, she launched herself into his arms and held onto him like she was afraid he wasn't there. It was clear the hug was about more than just him saving her. "Thank you"

Everything happened quickly, but Tony was pretty sure something more was going on than just the vampires. She seemed to be holding her own even before he blasted them. Why was she out so late with all the villains running around?

He held her tightly. "Yeah, of course. But what are you doing out here?"

It took a few moments to Liz to pull herself out of his grasp and move away enough that he could see her face. Under the light of the streetlamp, it wouldn't be hard for him to see the tear stains that were present and how her face was wet from recent crying. "The Entity sent me home then dropped me back here" She replied, her voice full of emotion, showing that her trip home had not been the best. There was worry, pleasure, joy, love, acceptance, relief, fear, heart break ... pretty much everything a person could experience, Liz Ortecho had in the few hours she was at home.

"Oh, Liz..." She must have been the quickest trip there and back yet. No wonder she had so many emotions running through her face. However, it was her tone that worried him most. "Was home not..." He shook his head. "I'm sorry," he said, realizing he had been about to ask a stupid question. Obviously the trip hadn't been a good one. "C'mon, it is cold. Let's get you home. Do you want to tell me about what happened?" He wanted to get her out of the cold, but he also wanted her to know she could talk to him if she wanted.

She shook her head in response to his trailed off question. Even if he didn't finish it, she knew what he was going to say. She held up a hand to say okay to his sorry then she wiped some tears from her face as she moved to get up. He was right, it was cold though she wasn't feeling it at the moment. She was still warm from running from to Rosa then from Rosa to the cave.

Deciding to skip the part where she and Max made love, Liz jumped to the important parts of her trip home. "You know about Rosa right? My sister, who died when I was seventeen?" She started out as they walked towards the apartments. She kept the brach with her as a weapon in case they got attacked again. True Tony could keep them safe but she wanted to be able to defend herself. She paused and took in a breath to try and compose herself before she continued.

"Max ... he exchanged his life for hers and brought her back to me" There were tears in her voice but it was clear she was trying to be strong not to let them fall.

Tony nodded when she mentioned her sister. He continued listening as they walked, only stopping when she told him about Max. No wonder she was distraught. Who wouldn't be? "He loved you that much," he said, although he knew the price was awful. "But, damn, Liz, the whole thing is fucked up." He reached out to wrap an arm around her if she'd let him.

She almost kept walking when he stopped then she turned back to him, nodding a sad nod in response to what he said. "He did" She replied softly. And she loved him for it but she also felt some angry bubbling inside of her at him for making that choice without talking to her first. She was not a fan of having her agency taken away from her like that. Right now, though, being heartbroken was overpowering that angry and keeping it down low. "You're not kidding" She muttered in Spanish as she leaned into his arm, letting him comfort her. She needed her faux dad right now. "He did that for me and now I'm stuck back here away from Rosa for who knows how long" And you know what? She was pissed off about that too.

Oh how Tony wished he could stabilize Goodland so he could bring the people his loved ones wanted. Or even give them the power to return home if they wanted. No one should have those choices taken from them, whether the entity was jubilant, vindictive, or somewhere in between.

Tony wanted to tell her that Rosa could arrive, but it was trite comfort and he knew it so he remained quiet on the subject. He, instead, nodded. "It is too much for a few hours. I wish you didn't go through that."

"Me too" She replied, getting quiet after that as she walked with her head near his shoulder. Thanks to her heels boots, she was able to walk comfortably with him like that as he took her to her apartment. Somehow she had the keys to her place on her and opened the door with ease.

As soon as she flipped the lights on, she froze in her place. The apartment looked nothing like how she'd left before she was yanked away. It was a shell full of things that only belonged to her. As it hit her that Max and Michael were gone, Liz raised a hand up and placed it above her heart on her chest where a glowing handprint resided. It was covered by her jacket at the moment so Tony would not be able to see it.

He would, however, be able to see the new tears that fell from her eyes as she spoke. "The Entity took them too. My boys aren't here anymore"

Tony watched her carefully, trying to anticipate what she might need. He wasn't the best at this stuff, but he tried and he liked to think he was getting better at it. "Oh, damn it," he swore under his breath. How much more could the the entity throw at this young woman? It wasn't fair. He squeezed her shoulders. "I've got you," he promised. "I'm not going anywhere." He knew it wasn't much comfort, but it was all he could offer. He couldn't bring the boys back. Not yet anyway.
