Somebody that I used to know...

Beverly stood in an unmoving elevator trying to remember what it meant to breathe, her mind racing. There were too many possibilities, too many variables and possible repercussions that made pursuing that boy a very bad idea. She couldn't be sure she'd seen what she thought she saw, anyway. It had only been a glimpse. She heard a familiar voice and looked up--because she was human, and that's how humans functioned, even with the knowledge of something that could mimic people perfectly present.

His face was unmistakable, brief though her view had been. He didn't feel the same, but maybe that was because their ages were so vastly different now, and she was on an elevator. She couldn't let him get away. Damn whatever consequences befell her because it was It in disguise or because she'd only seen what she wanted to see. Beverly had to know if this was a trick, or if one of the friends they'd lost to Pennywise had been brought to them. No matter what age, Eddie was family, and if he'd been brought to Goodland in the middle of the attack, she didn't want him running into It on his own. Frantically, she pushed the door open button and hurried into the hall. "Eddie!"

Freddy, despite his run in with He Who Shall Not Be Named, was not hiding while the villains were out and about; rather, he went out in his Shazam form to look for Gwen and Ray. His search, sadly, turned up empty so he transformed back to his usual self and was planning to visit friends for a little while. However, he turned around when he heard what he thought was his name. "Hello?" He said uncertainly. He didn't recognize the voice.

He turned. He stopped, and he looked at her, and he responded to his name, and Beverly's heart felt full to bursting. He wasn't dead. Yes, he was very young compared to her and the others, but he was here and not rotting in some cave. He should have a cast at this age.

Her steps faltered with that thought. The voice wasn't wrong, but maybe he was from after the cast came off. The closer she drew to him, the more unsure she was. Bev stopped in front of the boy. "I..know your face." She reached out and touched his cheek. "But you're not...him." He wasn't It, either, but this wasn't Eddie. He didn't feel like Eddie. "Why did you answer to Eddie?"

	Freddy recoiled at her touch. She didn't seem evil, but it was an involuntary response to a stranger touching him. "Um, sorry? My name is Freddy." He felt like he was disappointing her, but he wasn't sure why. "I thought..." He shrugged. "Sorry," he repeated. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Bev snatched her hand back. "I'm sorry, Freddy. That was a little crazy." She rubbed her hand over her face and took a couple steps back. "You're the spitting image of my friend Eddie from when we were your age. With It here, and knowing what happens to him, I.." Beverly trailed off and stared at Freddy incredulously. "You shouldn't be wandering around by yourself. Sleep-deprived women might confuse you for old friends, but worse, is It, and you look exactly like Eddie, who really pissed him off the first time."

	Freddy immediately felt badly about his reaction. "I'm okay," he assured her. "I can turn into a superhero!" Still, superhero or not, he couldn't make this situation better. That pulled her out of her thoughts, and she blinked at Freddy. "Beverly. You can just call me Beverly. What do you mean turn into a super hero?" There was a lot about this place she still hadn't processed because she was too caught up in figuring out if she could trust it. The people here, whom she'd only started interacting with because of Pennywise's threat, were more varied than she'd realized, and this kid apparently had powers. "You don't have to tell me. I invaded your time and space, but now I am curious."

"Oh, it is okay!" He was always excited to talk about Shazam. "See, at home? My brother met this wizard and the wizard wanted to retire so he gave Billy -that is my brother- his powers through a staff and then Billy gave me and our other brothers and sisters powers too. So now..." He stepped back. "I can do this. Don't get scared, okay?" He exhaled a deep breath and then said, "Shazam!" He transformed into his older, superhero self. "See?"

Beverly took several steps back in her surprise at the change. "It's a very good think I've already determined you're not Pennywise, because most people can't change their shape and appearance like that." She laughed at herself, a nervous exhalation of breath. "That's incredible. You kids and your powers and fearlessness. You are definitely not Eddie, and I think I'll not fear for you wandering through these halls. Just be on your guard, and I'll warn Richie and Ben, so you don't have a repeat of this with them."

"Thanks!" It was nice having someone think he could take care of himself for a change. Freddy in his normal form was slight, but he was powerful in his superhero form. Granted, he was new to the job and without most of his team, but he did hold his own against one of the most powerful villains in literature. "Shazam!" He returned to his normal self. "I think I've talked to Mr. Richie," he said, "But I don't think I've seen him in person." He frowned, upset that his mere physical presence might bother someone. Granted, he knew it wasn't his fault, but he still felt guilty about it. "I don't want to upset them," he added. He felt badly enough for startling her.
