Freddy & Nico

WHO: Freddy Freeman & Nico di Angelo
WHAT: Post a villain encounter
WHERE: Nico's room
SPOILERS: ...you know Potter, right?
WARNINGS: Nah
STATUS: Threading
Freddy was excited to use his superhero powers in Goodland. However, he didn't count for the fact that, well, he wasn't with his team of brothers and sisters. He also didn't count on the weight of prophecies outside the source material, which was how he had a disastrous encounter with Voldemort. He wasn't severely wounded, but he had cuts, scrapes, and bruises in his normal form. However, he mostly felt stupid and didn't want to be around people. Well, most people. He arrived at Nico's bedroom early that morning and knocked.

It'd been a crappy weather kind of day, and Nico had decided to stay inside, in his room where he'd been blissfully unaware of the goings on of Goodland that day. Instead, he'd been focusing on a sketchbook at his desk, having lost track of time several hours earlier. He'd not known what to do with the sketchbook when he'd turned to it, just that he'd needed to do something. What that something had evolved into, Nico didn't know, but it'd been better than wandering the streets again or staring at the ceiling as he was wont to do more than he'd admit.

Nico glanced up from his desk at the sound of knocking, brows furrowed. He stood, closing the cover of the sketchbook, and walked over, wondering who could be knocking. He wasn't expecting anyone, and he didn't remember making plans. Then again, his phone was... somewhere (he wasn't sure where. He didn't keep track of it that well most of the time), so he supposed it was possible someone had been trying to get in touch with him but hadn't been able to and had come to check on him. The list of those people were very small as far as he knew, but he was still confused and curious.

Opening the door, his confusion shifted to concern as he made note of the minor injuries on his friend. "What happened," he asked, opening the door wider and stepping aside to let Freddy come in. "Did someone jump you?" Because if someone had, well, he'd jump them right back and make sure they never did it again.

Freddy moved into the room when Nico stepped aside. "Uh, sort of," he admitted. "I went looking for a villain after the weird post on the network this morning." He shook his head. "I don't think I'm good without my brothers and sisters." Or maybe he'd just gone after the wrong villain? There was a whole prophecy involved, after all. "Can I sit?" He definitely felt the scrapes and bruises in his normal form.

Post? Nico wondered as he closed the door. He made a note to check for that later as he nodded, waving a hand at the two chairs and bed for Freddy to pick from. "I don't think it's got anything to do with not being good without your family," he said, frowning a little at the injuries he could see. "I think it's about experience. You don't get good at most things overnight, and it isn't like there've been a lot of people to fight here. Even with people willing to practice, that's a lot different than an actual fight with people who won't pull punches." His tone was calm, even, but not at all like he were lecturing the other boy. Why would he? Everybody started somewhere.

"And, hey, you got out of the fight with just some scrapes and bruises, so that's good," he added with a nod, idly glad it wasn't worse than that.

Freddy hobbled to the bed and sat down. He wondered if he should change back into his hero form, but dismissed the thought. He'd have to change back eventually and he guessed the soreness would return too.

He smiled at Nico's attempt to cheer him up. His friend had a point, but, still, Freddy knew he was part of a team at home. Maybe it really did make a difference. However, he had to admit he was proud he held his own, even if he didn't win. He was alive, after all.

"Yeah," he said softly, glancing down at his arm, which had an ugly bruise forming. "And it is kinda cool meeting a villain I read about, you know? Weird, okay, but, really, I fought He Who Shall Not be Named!"

Nico had absolutely no frame of reference for He Who Shall Not Be Named. Outside of, apparently, being from some kind of book? Or maybe it was a comic? Or maybe some kind of mythology in Freddy's world akin to the Greeks and Romans and others in his? He wasn't exactly sure and made a note to try to find out later when he wouldn't feel so stupid for not knowing who that person was.

He glanced down at Freddy's arm a few seconds after the other boy, then grabbed his desk chair and pulled it over in front of the other boy. "Hold out your arm. I'm gonna try something," he said, sitting down in front of him. He'd only kind of tried this, and he knew he wasn't the best, but, well, he thought he ought to try. Worst thing that could happen was nothing.

Freddy frowned, but held his arm out as commanded. He trusted Nico and didn't think twice really. "It's ugly, I know," he replied.

With a small shake of his head, Nico reached out toward Freddy's arm. He kept his hand above the other boy's arm as he focused, drawing the shadows and darkness from nearby. He didn't know how well it'd work on Freddy, how it worked on anyone who wasn't a demigod, really, but he focused on using the shadows and darkness to heal Freddy's arm. He wasn't a child of Apollo, but he had his own talents. Most weren't as therapeutic as healing, true. However, he knew he could handle bruises and scrapes and scratches. Anything more than that, well, he figured Freddy wouldn't be here right now but down with someone far more skilled in medicine than he was.

After a few moments, Nico dropped his hand into his lap, examining his work as the shadows retreated to their normal corners of the room.

Nico's work awed Freddy. He was quiet, but powerful. Freddy always marveled at the power lurking beyond Nico's calmness. It wasn't scary to him; contrastingly, it was exciting. He liked Nico for his whole self or, at least, the self he allowed Freddy in on, which, Freddy knew, was more than some people, something he didn't take lightly.

"Oh, wow," he marveled as the bruises faded. "Nico, thank you!" He hadn't expected it, but it touched him that Nico cared enough to heal his scrapes. "You really are awesome, you know that?"

"You're welcome," Nico said, looking down at his hands. He wanted to protest that he wasn't awesome, that his sisters were, that Percy Jackson was, that Jason and Thalia Grace were. He wasn't anything special. Even his own dad hadn't seen anything in him for so long, keeping him only for a stupid prophecy while hoping it'd been about Bianca. He wasn't awesome or anything. He was just that kid people didn't like, that people feared, that people didn't want to get to know. Definitely not awesome.

But instead of saying all that, he merely said, "Thanks." Because even if he didn't believe it, he knew Freddy was nice. And if he thought he was awesome, well, he decided not to try to change his mind. If he hadn't realized how very not awesome he was after seven months, well, he doubted he'd see it now. And, he found, he didn't really want to push him away most of the time.

"You're awesome, too," he added, glancing up. "Not everyone's gonna just run into a fight to help people. Plus, you're a good guy. With or without powers."

Freddy blushed and looked down at his feet. He couldn't help it. Nico's words made him feel gooey inside. He reached, without thinking, for Nico's hand. "Thanks," he whispered.

Nico glanced down at their hands, not entirely sure what to make of it. He didn't want to sit there holding hands all day as the thought made him uncomfortable, but, for the moment, he was okay with this contact. He gently squeezed Freddy's hand and looked back up as he said, "You're welcome."
