His birthday had always been an interesting occasion. Most of the time Steve could handle all the attention and well wishes. He didn't like it, but he let it roll off him. This birthday, however, took the cake for weirdness. He had a son. James. Who was here. He'd deal with who his mother was on his own time. Right now James was more freaked out than Steve was which was more important. Times like this he really missed Peggy.

There was pizza being kept warm in the oven. Soda pop being chilled in the fridge. And there was one super soldier fidgeting with tension. He'd told James that the door was unlocked but he wasn't certain if the boy would knock or take the invitation. Time was crawling and going too fast at the same time. He wasn't a scientist but he was sure that went against the laws of physics or something.
