Tony was glad he decided to go through with the barbecue. He planned it because he needed something easy and fun to focus on, but he briefly considered canceling it when he found out about what his technology did to James and his parents. Sure, he told Peter that those alternate versions weren't the kid, but he meant that only for Pete, not himself. If Tony Stark was good at one thing? Well, it was self-loathing. Still, it helped having Pepper again and he wanted to give the kids as normal a life as he could in Goodland, so he decided to go through with the party. So far? It seemed to be going okay too. Sure, some people were drunk, but they were all of age as far as Tony could tell, so he considered that a win. Everyone seemed to like the food too. However, once he was done grilling, he wasn't sure what to do with himself. Pepper was mingling, which he was glad to see, especially with her taking an interest in the kids. He was still worried she'd think he was a bad parent (or guardian, whatever at that point), but everything seemed okay for the moment. Still, he didn't want to cling to her so he grabbed a beer and made his way to an empty seat close to the roof's edge so he could look at the sky.

Diego didn't know Tony very well. Or at all really. He knew who he was, though, because he'd seen Klaus talking to him. He wasn't very active on the network himself, but he kept up with his brother's activities.

"Tony, right?" Diego jutted his chin toward the man. "Diego," he offered. "Klaus is my brother." He didn't identify himself as 'Klaus' brother' because in his mind that made Klaus the superior one, and while Klaus was his favorite sibling if he had to choose, he didn't want to give him that kind of status, even in his own mind.

Tony glanced in the direction of the voice. He couldn't claim to know much about Diego, but he had been relieved to know Klaus had family looking after him in the city. Tony, truthfully, worried about Klaus ever since the "event" a few days back, but he was a grown man, who had to make his own choices so Tony tried to be supportive, but not pushy.

"Diego," he said, standing with an outstretched hand. "Good to properly meet you. Glad you made it."

"Who doesn't like free food?" Diego said, as a means of explaining why he was there, as he gripped Tony's hand. A man said a lot with his handshake, and Diego's was firm and strong, steady. He gave a shake, then let go, making sure he didn't hold on too long.

"No, really. it's a nice thing you're doing here." There hadn't been much in the way of celebrations in his childhood. There had certainly never been a Fourth of July picnic at Reginald Hargreeve's home.

Tony chuckled at Diego joking about the food. He also noticed Diego's steady handshake. Howard Stark always did harp on making a good first impression. You never knew how someone would influence your life, after all. "It is nothing," Tony replied. He meant it too. He was used to throwing extravagant parties back home so the barbecue was tame. "How are you doing? Settling in here?"

"More or less," Diego said with a nod. He had settled in, insofar as Diego settled in anywhere. He was a misfit. He didn't really fit in anywhere, and he was okay with that. That was the norm, the story of his life.

"It's an interesting place." Anticlimactic, really. A bit of a let down after what he'd been through at home, with Vanya discovering her power, and using it. Not that he wanted to deal with that. He rather preferred his docile, mousy sister..

Tony, coming from an alien invasion, was content with anticlimactic. There was always part of him chasing some adventure for one reason or another, but he really wanted to settle down with Pepper this time. He had been close to it at home and now he had another chance. Still, he could understand why some wanted to leave and for that? He was trying to find a way out for them, while keeping the place safe for those who remained. "Compared to some of the realities I've learned about, I'd say this is downright boring," he kidded. He nodded toward the cooler. "Want a drink?"

Where Diego came from wasn't overly exciting in and of itself. It was only when his siblings were added to the mix that things got really interesting. Needless to say, he was glad Five wasn't around. Or Luther but his issues with Luther were because Luther had always been Number One, and not really because of his abilities.

"I will never say no to a drink," Diego nodded. He wasn't a heavy drinker. He didn't and wouldn't drink enough to get sloshed. He liked maintaining his control. But he also enjoyed a drink now and then.

	Tony grabbed a beer from the cooler and held it out to Diego. "Your brother, er..." He glanced over to Klaus in the crowd. "He is a good guy. Is he doing alright?" Tony tried to sound nonchalant, but he was a bit worried. (Reply to this) (Parent)
