MORGAN STARK
TONY STARK

Morgan hadn’t gotten much one on one time with her father lately. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to spend time with him because she couldn’t ever get enough of that, things had just been so busy. The wedding, her birthday, and the holidays seemed to eat up all of their free moments. Throw in the fact that she was trying to learn how to balance her time between family, college planning, lab time, and Markus? Well, she was beyond pleased to be spending the day with Tony in her lab.

“Good girl, Dingy,” she murmured, as her AI cat shone a light from one of her eyes down on the palm of her suit, that Morgan was tinkering with.

“How’s it coming over there, Idea Man?” She asked Tony, smiling as she continued to focus on her work.

Tony, true to his word, brought 2-Dum for a playdate with Dingy. Sure, they might be “just” bots to some, but Tony thought of them as family. Heck, he understood them better than humans sometimes.

He snuck a peek as Morgan complimented Dingy. She really did take after him. He grinned and quickly looked back down at his work. However, he glanced up when he heard Morgan talking to him only a few seconds later. “It is a little more complicated than I initially expected, but we like a challenge.” He nodded toward 2-Dum, who really did seem to be watching them.

Morgan was thrilled to have both Dingy and 2-Dum helping them. Much like her father, she viewed them as more than just machines. Finally looking up from her work, she patted Dingy’s head then cracked her knuckles, before leaning against the counter for a brief break.

“We do like a challenge, I should have known better than to think this would be easy, but I have faith in us,” she said with a laugh as she watched Tony. “Thank you for helping. I’ve missed you.” She knew it might be a silly thing to say, she did see him every day after all, but she had missed him amongst all the festivities.

Tony, who had gone back to his work, glanced side-ways at his daughter. Missed him? He suddenly felt guilty. Maybe he got too caught up in the baby and Pepper and the company?

He abandoned his project and moved so that he could wrap an arm around Morgan’s shoulders. “Well, I’m right here,” he assured her. He’d always be there, no matter what happened in their lives. “And after this? You can watch me look ridiculous on ice skates if you like. You can even take a photo. One photo.”

Morgan laid her head on his shoulder with a smile. “I know,” she replied, assuring him in her own way that she knew he would always be there, and she was extremely grateful for that fact. Laughing, she lit up at the offer of skating and nudged him with her shoulder. “One photo is all I need. I can blow it up poster-sized and hang it on my wall.” She smirked then, before looking down at her suit.

“I hope he likes this and doesn’t think it’s too much.” Sometimes she worried she might be too over the top? Not to mention, the android hadn’t really ever experienced Christmas before, and this wasn’t exactly a gift that you unwrapped.

Tony rolled his eyes over the poster idea, but his expression was clearly jovial. He’d look dumb for his kids any day. His face, however, grew more serious when Morgan started talking about Markus. “Hey, hey, now,” he said gently, “he’ll love it because you put in all this thought.” He tried not to think too much about the “affectionate” part of the gift; he liked Markus quite a bit and it was obvious he loved Morgan, but Tony was still a dad. He needed to pretend some things away. “Besides, I don’t think that man could dislike anything you do. You know, I ran into him at the company the other day?”

“I definitely think he’ll be surprised, I’m not sure he realizes that I even remember the conversation about it we had.” Morgan couldn’t help but smile happily when she thought back to that day, but she was pulled out of her head when Tony continued. “Oh, I’m sure he’ll eventually find something he dislikes...wait. He was at the company?”

“Hmmm,” Tony replied. “Looking for the prettier Stark, but got stuck with me.” He squeezed her around the shoulders once more before sliding back to his station, where he started fiddling with things with 2-Dum looking on, ready to assist. “I scared the shit out of him obviously,” he kidded. “Wore the suit and everything.”

“The prettier Stark,” she repeated with a quizzical arch of her eyebrow, before following suit and moving back to her station. She was about to pat Dingy on her head again, but instead, she groaned and rolled her eyes in jest. “Well, I guess I’ll have to wipe big scary Dad type things from his memory.”

Winking at Dingy, she got back to work- her curiosity about what had transpired during their visit still poking at her brain. “Unless you think the scary can’t be wiped,” she teased. In reality, Morgan was thrilled that they had spent some time together. Markus was well aware of how important her family was to her, and it meant a lot that he had taken some time with her Dad. She loved Markus and intended on him being a part of her life for as long as he wished, so the fact that her family was so accepting? Well, it was everything.

Tony laughed. “I don’t know. I’m the most intimidating, obviously.” He liked the easy banter they had together. He held a hand up in mock surrender. “Stop talking about wiping things out, young lady! It makes me…” He shuddered. “She is trying to kill me, guys,” he added, obviously talking to the AI family members.

“I know. Tony Stark? The name alone is intimidating, I couldn’t imagine being someone that dated one of your children.” Morgan threw her head back and laughed, and then laughed more when Dingy hopped over onto Tony’s shoulder. “Betrayal,” she said- feigning shock as she looked at her father and the two AI’s. “If I were trying to kill him, I wouldn’t withhold certain details. But because I am an amazing daughter, I spare him from that torture.”

“They know the truth,” he retorted, pointing to the purring Dingy and judgmental looking 2-Dum. “See? On my side.” He laughed too and leaned over to kiss Morgan’s forehead. The day was turning out even better than he expected when he agreed to help work on the suit. He should have known any time spent with Morgan became special.

He, nonetheless, grew serious again. “But, really? I like Markus, Morg. He is...you two work together, I think. I’m sure your mom wouldn’t mind if you invited him for Christmas.”

“Outnumbered and betrayed by my own cat! I see how it is.” Morgan made a ‘hmph’ sound, but smiled at the kiss to her forehead. This was another day she would commit to her eidetic memory. “I suppose I still love you all, despite current events.”

“I’m so glad you do,” she said softly as she held up some wires- Tony’s words meaning more than he would ever know. “And I hope we work, because I love him…” She hadn’t said that aloud to anyone other than Markus, and she hadn’t exactly meant to say it just then, but she couldn’t take it back now. She cleared her throat, and shook her head before continuing. “Thank you, he would really like that I think. It’s his first Christmas.”

Tony caught Morgan’s confession; he’d be lying if the seriousness didn’t worry him, but only because he didn’t want his daughter getting hurt. Oh, he liked Markus and Morgan together, but she was young and with a lot of life to live. He’d be dumb not to worry. Still, he also knew some relationships, romantic or platonic, could stand the test of time. Look at him and Rhodey. Look at him and Pepper. All he could do was support Morgan and let life unfold, which was difficult for Tony Stark, but he was slowly learning sometimes he couldn’t save everyone from pain as much as he wanted to.

“Should we get him a stocking then?” he asked. “You better get to work on some chocolate holograms, sweetheart.” He remembered something Markus told him then. “And maybe we ought to invite Connor and Alice too?” He really hoped Pepper didn’t mind. He had a hunch she wouldn’t, especially if he promised only minimal help.

Morgan let go of the breath she had been holding since the words slipped out of her mouth without warning. It wasn’t that she was uncertain of her feelings, but it was all still very new for her. She had been falling for Markus since that first day in the cafe back in September, but hadn’t realized she loved him until very recently. She knew she was still young, and that they lived in a place where so much was unknown. ‘Forever’ was a lovely notion, but all too often it wasn’t the reality. There were exceptions though, like her parents, so she chose to hope that she and Markus would be an exception.

“Yes! A stocking is a must, you know if he wants to join us.” She smiled happily at her father when he spoke of inviting Markus’ family as well. “Run it by mom, and I’ll extend the invites.” Dropping her work, again she moved over to hug him. “Thank you, Daddy. I love you.”
