Pepper had been through and seen a lot since Tony became Iron Man. Kidnapped. Almost killed. Became a super...something. Skipping time and dimensions didn't even come near the top of the worst things that's happened, but it was still disconcerting. In her opinion, those Accords and what they did to friendships was the worst, but that subject was a little taboo.

She'd gotten a Super Uber pick-up by Carol Danvers...who after talking to she came to the conclusion that she really liked the woman...and taken to a building that she had never seen before. That was saying something since Pepper had been in New York often enough to know every high-rise by sight. She vaguely remembered being told what apartment number to go to as she was dropped off. The elevator ride didn't even register in her mind. Her consciousness caught up with her as she stood in front of the door. What if he wasn't in there? What if it was some kind of trick by one of their many enemies? Loki, for instance. Pepper felt her heart thud in her chest before she took a deep breath then reached out to knock on the door.

"Yes!" Tony, indignant, replied. "I mean, once I had you, I had nothing to worry about, hmm?" He slid next to her on the couch and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He was only half-kidding. He thought he could trust his father's old business partner, but the man took advantage of Tony. Pepper, on the other hand, had Tony's complete trust, something hard to come by when he had been hurt so often. "Some of us are working out how this place runs," he explained. "So, you know, those who want to leave, can, but those who have a reason to stay..."

Pepper chuckled as she scooted closer so she could lean against Tony. This was familiar. Comfortable. Safe. Every bit of her relaxed into him. Yeah. She could live like this.

"I'm not sure what you were doing was Running. The business." She kissed his cheek to assure him that she was joking...even though he had been a real handful.

"So you have something to go by?" She didn't lift her head, just rolled her eyes to look up at him. "Readings or energy signatures? Do you have computers up and running to analyze things? Jarvis. Not Friday. She hates me, I swear."
