who damon & bonnie
what reunion!!!
where her apartment to a nearby bar
when right after her post
warnings drinking, TVD series finale spoilers, some cussing probably!

Well, if he had to be stuck anywhere, at least he had his family. Sure, it was mottled and bizarre, what with the discrepancies in time, but he could deal with that. As long as Damon had Elena, he didn't really care what happened to the world around him, or so he'd claim. The truth was, he'd be devastated if it were just for the two of them--able to cope, but devastated. They both needed their families, she was just much better at expressing that than he preferred doing himself.

As he made his way up, bourbon in hand and an eager smile on his face, he knocked loudly at Bonnie's door. While he had some qualms with leaving Elena alone with Gray to see Bonnie by himself, he knew she'd understand. He'd promised to bring the witch back with him later, so he hoped that would let him off the hook. Knowing that the two of them were longtime friends hadn't stopped his selfish impulse from wanting to rush off and see her.

Without Bonnie, he wouldn't have Elena, and now he had a brand new opportunity to thank Bonnie for that all over again. He also took it upon himself to catch her up to speed on when everyone in town was coming from in their timelines just to give her a heads up. At least he had scratched Jeremy off that list unintentionally.

Once her door opened, his trademark grin appeared the second before he scooped her up in a tight bear hug. "Ahhh, it's the worst to see you again, Bonbon," he laughed.

Bonnie had spent the last five days cooped up in her apartment with Enzo. There was so much time to make-up for, and those handful of moments weren't near enough, but the witch couldn't help but wonder if her friends were brought to Goodland as well. So, she finally reached out on the city's network, and she couldn't be more thrilled that so many of them were here. Maybe it was a tad bit selfish on her part, which wasn't something she often did, but she would willingly admit that having them here made it better. If any of them didn't want this, however, she would move hell and back to get them home.

When the knock came to the door, she practically ran to it, gladly being scooped up by Damon, and wrapping her arms around him tightly. "I can't ever get a proper break from you, can I," Bonnie asked with a laugh of her own.

Bottle in one hand and Bonnie basically held fast in the other, he gave her a much needed spin around before releasing her gently. He spared no glance for the inside of her apartment as he leaned past Bonnie to help close the door, then immediately offered her his arm. Damon could be a gentleman for the right people, and Bonnie would always be that and much more to him. They'd endured something painfully special, he would do anything for her just as he would Elena. She was the sister he never had, let alone knew he wanted.

The bottle was, of course, already sans its lid and he offered it to her before starting to walk towards the elevators. "Like you want one," he tossed back, pleased with their usual banter. If Damon had to choose one thing to be absolutely grateful for in that moment, it was that she hadn't come from a point in their history where she hated him.

That just would've been awkward.

"So," he prompted after taking a swig of the bourbon for himself. "I'm not allowed to finish this bottle by the end of the night, FYI, because I've got a kid at home and I'm..." He managed to make one half of air quotes to represent, "responsible. So, you're gonna have to help me out in between telling me what's made you play possum for so long, hmm?"

Bonnie smiled and nudged him with her shoulder before hooking her arm with his. Although she was happy traveling the world and seeing the things she should have been seeing with Enzo, she had missed her friends terribly- especially Damon. It was hard for her to think of a time when she loathed the ground he walked on, but that period of her life went away the moment they were exiled with only each other for company. Bonnie couldn't explain what happened in 1994, but the bond they developed in that prison world was nearly unshakable. Even when he hurt her deeply by leaving her all alone, she hadn't really hated him. He was her best friend, and nothing could change that.

"Give me that." Taking the bottle, she tossed it back, drinking a good amount before passing it back over. "Oh, please. Give me fifteen minutes, and I'll be kicking your ass all the way back to Elena."

"You? Responsible," her eyebrow arched, and her lips curled up into a smirk. "Careful, Damon...Your age is showing." It took her a second to register what he said, and she stopped in her tracks. "Wait? Kid?" She was thankful he had given her something else to focus on for at least a little bit, rather than talking about what was waiting for her back at her apartment.

That took him back to the times they'd sit around drinking in the sitting room of the boarding house. It was one of the few things he could look back on in their time stuck in 1994 with a gentle fondness (provided he didn't delve so far as to recall their suicide pact). Swapping a bottle back and forth had been peak prison world fun times for them, that and shopping.

"Not taking that bet," he responded with a pleased grin, then took back the bottle. He didn't have the same vampiric tolerance, which was a tragedy, but he'd learned how to manage without it.

He waited patiently for his bombshell to hit her like a ton of bricks. Only then did Damon take another swig of the bottle, then handed it back to her. She might need it after hearing that, and not because she doubted his ability to handle as much. He figured it was just a huge surprise.

"Baby Gray," he informed. "So, we hit the bar, we chill, and then you get to meet him while he's sleeping. That's the best time. Sound good?"

Bonnie just stood there staring at him with her mouth agape. She couldn't quite wrap her mind around her two best friends being parents. It wasn't that she thought they weren't equipped for such a thing, quite the opposite actually. It was just quite the shock, and she needed a moment to process.

Taking the bottle, she tossed it back harder than the first time. "I'm an aunt again," she finally managed- trying not to tear up, even though they were happy tears. "Oh what the hell." This time it was her turn to pull him into a hug. This was definitely a hugging moment. "You're a dad."

Bonnie couldn't wait to meet her nephew.

The hug was welcome, Damon squeezed her tight and made no move to release her either. She was a traveling soul, he had to take advantage of her presence while he had it. The usual snark and sarcasm took a backseat as he appreciated her sentimentality. Damon didn't tear down his walls for people often, not outside of Elena, but he'd gotten very accustomed to doing it around Bonnie.

"Elena got the life she wanted because of you, you know. Which means she's gonna make it her personal mission to ensure you do, too," he finished by drawing back to look down on his shorter friend. "'Hem, so, yeah. Daddy Damon. Weird, huh?"

In a friendly fashion, he slung his arm over her shoulders in an attempt to get her to walk again. "I am loving it though. Pretty sweet gig, no regrets."

Bonnie held onto Damon tightly for a few moments. She couldn't put into words how happy she was for him and Elena. This is what she had always envisioned for them when she saw their life together, and she was incredibly grateful that she got the chance to witness it. There was a time where she was convinced she would never see Elena alive again, and even then when the other girl had Bonnie promise to live her life? Every time she knocked on death's door, all she could think of was that Elena would get to live, and that thought alone made her brushes with death worth it.

Fate, however, had another plan. "That's all I ever wanted. For both of you to have the life you deserved." Smirking up at Damon, she shook her head. "I don't think 'weird' even begins to cover it."

She took his cue and began walking again. "You're happy. It's written all over your annoying face." Laughing, she fell silent into her thoughts before speaking again. "You can tell Elena that I might have the life I want here. Even if I'm afraid to hope."

Bonnie Bennett was the only reason, he ultimately saw, that he had this rare chance at a slice of normal life. Yes, Stefan's sacrifice had written into stone, but it was Bonnie waking up Elena that made it worth taking his first breath as a human. Otherwise, Damon would have been seeking out his brother on the other side, regardless of whether it meant peace of damnation.

And he still believed the latter awaited him.

"Yep," he agreed. "Shockingly, the only time I miss being a vampire is when I don't get my way." Even then, he didn't seem to rue it in the slightest. He wouldn't change a thing, the risk of losing it all was far too great. He also didn't have just himself to think of, he had Elena, their son, and the one on the way.

Her statement quirked a curious brow in her direction, but he paused to call the elevator before questioning it. "Must be huge if it's got you scared to hope. What is it, Bonbon? Tell me."

"Why am I not surprised?" Bonnie knew Damon well, and as a vampire, he had typically gotten his way. The things he did to go about it hadn't always been the best, but after getting to really know him? She knew that deep down? He had the best intentions, despite his methods. That for the record? She didn't always condone.

She stared at the elevator doors in another moment of silence so thick you could cut it with a knife, before grabbing the bottle again. "It's Enzo. He's here. With me." With that, she took another huge swig and finally looked at Damon.

The elevator doors opened and closed in the short span of time it took for Damon to acknowledge what Bonnie had just said. Absently, he pushed the button to open them again, but failed to move. It had been many years since he'd even given thought to his fallen comrade, and guilt immediately wedged its way into his enthusiasm for being around his best friend. Guilt, and then happiness for her, because that was far more important to him.

"Heh, no kidding?" He questioned, reaching out to hold the doors open for her. A side glance was thrown down the hall as though he were hesitating on going out with her now. It didn't seem altogether right not to go greet his partner in countless crimes, but he shook it off. There would be time to see Enzo another time.

"Elena was right, more were on the way..." He mused aloud, stepping onto the elevator only after she had. "So, what's on the agenda for you two?"

"Yeah. No, kidding." Bonnie caught the side glance before moving into the elevator. She knew Damon would want to see him, and she wouldn't ever in a million years prevent that from happening, but she was being a little selfish. She needed to talk to her best friend...she needed help making sense of everything, and that also happened to mean she needed to drink.

"I don't know," she replied as she leaned against the elevator wall. "Do you have any idea how happy I was to see him?" Damon would know better than anyone. Hell, he would know better than her. He had spent years without Elena. "After I was convinced it was him, and not threatening to set him on fire anymore." With a shake of her head, she sighed heavily. "I love him, Damon. More than I've ever loved anyone. When he died, I was ready to go too, and somehow he's here. He hasn't lived through what I did in those few months before losing him, but he's here. We have a chance."

Bonnie desperately wanted to believe that this was their second chance. That Enzo had been right when he said they would be together again, and that there would be only peace, but..."But, what if this is only temporary? What if we get sent back? What is there to go back to? Me having to live without him again? Enzo getting a couple of months with me before..." She trailed off then. Damon and Bonnie both knew very well who was responsible for Enzo's death, and while she still harbored a truckload of resentment for Stefan, he was still her best friend's brother, who gave up his life so Damon could live his.
