Who: Sam Winchester and Cas What: Talking shop, mainly. Sam's been having STRANGE goings on inside his noggin. Where: Cas and Anna's flat When: Backdated to shortly after Sam and Dean's run-in with the vampires (and I'm guessing before the temporary relocation to Stark Tower). Warnings: None
Cas had faced several variations of adversity over time, many of them seemingly insurmountable. There was of course Pestilence. And the devil, among other things, but the more troubling ones had been the situations in which children's lives had been at stake. He'd always liked them and found them easy to speak with. However, the idea of having one of his own had never entered into his mind and the fact that he was currently attempting to place a childproof lock on the cupboards beneath the kitchen sink felt largely surreal. Also somewhat insurmountable in and of itself, but that was due to only having handled tools in relation to the cars Bobby had insisted he help fix.
Were it not for the knock at the door hadn't come, Cas was certain he would have been drinking anyway. Between thinking of those times and thinking ahead, it only solidified the sense that he was truly only skilled in one area and that was hunting. The fact that it was all he could do in regard to the likely impending crisis itself only seemed to cause further frustration.
Getting up from the floor, he shoved the unsuccessfully attached lock and drill into the cupboard and frowned when he opened the door. He supposed it only felt strange because he'd only ever been inside Sam and Dean's apartment. It was not from lack of wanting them in his or that they were unwelcome, but for some reason, he still always went to them. Never had it been the other way around. Still, without much thought he opened the door wide. If Sam were not Sam or possessed, there was a devil's trap painted on the back of the rug and there was holy water sitting beside the phone on its table. The .45 he tended to have on him at all times was also tucked down the back of his jeans. "Hello, Sam," he said softly.
He took a step back to allow the other hunter inside, yet something was...different. He could feel it just as he had the last time they'd been alone together and it was stronger somehow. Cas wasn't certain if there had been a change or if it was simply noticeable when there weren't so many others around him to throw off the already tentative readings his remaining Grace left him with. "How can I help you?"
