"I doubt Glory was interested in us to begin with," he pointed out. "Were she interested at all, there was nothing preventing her from making contact. But I'm not complaining. In fact, I hope she remains disinterested."
He ran his fingers up her wrist and over the inside of her forearm, still exploring though it was well-known territory. The more he considered it, the more he realized there were likely few parts of her body he'd never touched and the fact that she was on the only one he'd ever had any desire to touch in the first place was somewhat fascinating. Yet he understood her concerns and had expected them to arise. He hadn't aimed to mention any of them, thinking perhaps Anna would take his desire for her to be careful the wrong way, but evidently, the silence had taken its toll.
"And I miss you hunting with me," he replied honestly. "But you can help in other ways, Anna. I cannot always welcome others to the city, nor can I protect all of them. You are well-suited for that. Perhaps more so, seeing as acclimating new transplants requires talking to people. This has never been one of my talents. There's also always information to require. This is something else I feel you have some skill in."
It felt as if he were talking down to her and if there was anything he disliked, it was that. For as long as he'd been human, people had treated him as if he had no idea what he was doing or saying. Having been referred to as a 'baby in a trenchcoat' on several occasions, he knew what it was like to be told how to behave. He was not telling Anna, but he wished to offer solutions to her problem. "I understand none of these are nearly as satisfying," he pointed out. "But thankfully this is only temporary. I will be glad when you can join me again."
Were he not so concerned for the child's well-being, he would have been out looking for something to hunt at that very instant, but to say he hadn't had various nightmares would be a lie. The ideas of her losing the child or of losing Anna herself were present in his mind, but having become slightly more paranoid as a human, he was doing his best to ignore it. "I...still require your guidance. There are times where I feel as if I'm making the wrong choice and am uncertain of what the right one even is."
