Coming around, Cas took her hand silently. For a long while, there was no sound and that was not comforting. However, Dr. Grey did not look uncertain or upset, so he took that as a good sign. He'd since learned she was not very good at masking her facial expressions. It was so evident that apparently, even he could differentiate between each of them.
And then there it was. It was not the sound of a regular heartbeat in that the machine was doing its best to replicate it and send it back to them, but it was there. It was strong. The child inside Anna was thriving and finally, he had a feeling that it was not as fragile as he'd been led to believe. After all, theoretically it couldn't be if it was a product of both him and Anna, two angels of whom were apparently difficult to kill completely, but it was human and it was alive.
The feeling was that of elation, but it was...definitely overwhelming. His legs were not shaking, but he barely registered the moisture running down his face as the smile spread over his features. Dr. Grey seemed to notice this and smiled back. "It sounds like he or she is pretty strong," she confirmed. "The heart rate is normal for a baby this early in the term and aside from still needing routine checkups and ultrasounds, he or she is liable to give both of you hell. Which is what you want!"
Cas found himself squeezing Anna's hand a fraction tighter. "I-It is," he answered softly. "I'm not certain I would expect any less."
