Taking Anna into his arms, he buried his face into her neck briefly. Partially to take in the scent of her hair which he found comforting, but also to remind himself that this was real. That she was his and that he was perhaps finally going to get what he knew he'd been wanting, which was a family. It was not something he thought of very often, knowing how things generally went in his own reality. But to have it now...that was something he couldn't even have prayed for. Despite his shaken belief, Castiel still prayed. Even if he felt no one was truly listening.
"We will have to remind him not to share," he said, pulling back from her. "But until then, I want you to know that I will do whatever it takes to keep both you and our son or daughter safe. This is not something I intend to take lightly. You are my mate...and if there is anything I have done right, it has been finding you again."
At that moment, he stepped back at the sound of the door opening. Dr. Grey of course had a look on her face that meant she might have been listening, but he felt it mattered very little. She could disclose it to whomever she pleased if she wished to disclose...providing of course she kept the news of Anna's pregnancy a secret, which he didn't doubt.
"Okay, so this is a handheld doppler," she said, holding up the device in her hands as she sat down on the stool. "Basically, we're gonna use it to get a good feeling of how strong the baby's heartbeat is and make sure amniotic fluid levels are where they should be. Then after that, I'll give Anna a quick checkup and you can be on your way!"
She warmed the end of the device with her fingers. "If you could lift up your shirt, please."
