Cas had had his suspicions and he supposed each of her points could be well-taken. For each of their Father's children, there was an innate desire for the mother to protect the lives of her offspring no matter what. The desire to nest was also equally as strong, or so he had studied and the nest was often in a place that could be considered safe. He knew that there were few options within the city and that yes, often things happened that were life-threatening. Yet seeing as their own realities had very nearly ended, he failed to see any difference.
He collected her shoes and placed them beside the table, arranged neatly so she could step back into them when the time came. "It is not pointless," he replied. "However, I feel I must remind you that the city is just a place. It, in and of itself, is not the enemy. It has to do with what resides in it and evidently, that too is subject to change at a moment's notice."
He took one of her hands in his and stroked another over her hair, not certain what kind of comfort it could bring her, but it was what she did for him. He felt he could at least repay the favour. "It...would be difficult regardless of what reality, Anna. We are both angels, and thus not meant to reproduce. Our child is likely to have a Grace of his own and teaching another to control that even in a more stable reality could be problematic. I highly doubt his or her upbringing would be any less complicated."
He sighed, uncertain of what else to say. Cas wished to reassure her, but to do so when he himself was filled with doubts seemed somewhat insincere. His thumb traced the back of her hand nervously, even as he cast his eyes downward. "I am not...I know I am not what could widely be considered an appropriate paternal unit. In fact, I'm finding myself more lost than I have ever been, but I can assure you that I will do whatever is necessary to guard the life of our child. Providing that is what you want..."
Taking her concern into consideration, Cas had gotten the feeling a few times that perhaps Anna was only feigning enthusiasm to avoid upsetting him. The life inside her was innocent, and more importantly theirs. Potentially a miracle, but...she was his wife. He had no desire to impose upon her something she didn't desire. "No matter what, I will support you. That is the vow I took, despite its human origin."
