Sam had been planning to hold the waxy end of the candle to the lighter and let it melt right onto the bulb, but the microwave was actually a decent idea. "We could give nuking it a try," he said. "I've never tried microwaving a candle, but if that worked, it'd definitely be faster than what I had in mind."
And he'd brought a couple of them, to make sure they had enough wax to cover the thing fully, so he handed over the candle for Alan to give it a try. In the meantime, he knelt to examine the bulb, still holding the gauze against his shoulder with one hand. There was a light smokiness in it, even with the light on. He was mainly concerned about what would happen when the light went out, but the magic had been strong enough to put it in there and it ought to be strong enough to hold it in.
He looked up at Alan, and gave him a small but genuine smile. "No problem," he said. "It's my job. It's kind of fascinating, really-- the way it almost created people, shadow puppets, rather than possessing regular people. But whatever this thing is, it's stuck now."
He was really curious about what it was, to find a name for it, but he could do that once the thing was dead and gone. And even if he didn't know how to kill it, he knew how to trap it. If he encountered something like it again, he'd know what to do.
