"I can handle that," Sam assured him. "I'll have to stay near the candles and the lamp in order to get the spell done properly, but I can still help you hold them off."
As Alan went to work shutting down the lights, Sam turned his attention to preparing the spell. He had brought candles, and he set them out now, all around the lamp. The trick would be holding their adversaries at bay long enough to light the candles, which would take longer than the actual invocation, and then there was the matter of fully sealing the shadow into the lamp. He'd brought a candle to melt fully, with which he would cover the lightbulb to seal it in.
The lights went down, and he immediately started to light the candles, holding his lighter in one hand and a flashlight in the other, his gun nearby should he need it. He wielded the flashlight at the Taken that appeared near him as he lit the candles one by one, narrowly avoiding being hit by a flying object as he lit the last one. Dropping the lighter back into his pocket, he grabbed for the gun and turned both on the Taken that was approaching him.
In a commanding voice, he began, "Quae implebuntur tenebris--" he ducked, but not quite fast enough; something heavy hit him in the shoulder, but he only paused a split second to register it before finishing, "lumen ab oculis auferam spiritum!"
He fired twice at the Taken that had gotten near enough to hit him, and reached for the herbs he'd prepared with his injured arm, dropping them into the candles. The light flared up, and Sam watched as the people around them dissolved into darkness, a dark shadow that pooled and then spun angrily towards the lamp that it had been banished into. As soon as all of it was contained in the lightbulb, Sam sprang forward and turned the lamp on to weaken it, ensuring that the binding spells could hold it until it was properly sealed.
That gave them a moment to breathe, with the shadow safely contained for the moment. Breathing a little harder than normal, he looked up at Alan. "Lights," he suggested, lifting one hand to touch his shoulder, checking to see if he was bleeding. "I'll have to turn the lamp off to seal it properly... I don't think melting candle wax onto a lit bulb is a good idea."
