Alan had to smile at that, since Sam had at least come to the right place. It wasn't just a bad idea to go out there unprepared, it was stupid. He'd fended Taken off with as little as a couple flares before, but it hadn't exactly been the best of times and he still had a scar from being clipped by a flying pick axe. "When the lights are off, as soon as I step outside and it's after dark. I could probably step into a dark basement in the middle of the day and manage it too, but we can do this however you like," he replied.
He had to admit, trapping what was left of the dark presence inside a lantern was crazy. It seemed like it would be too small, but since the first and last face he saw before going to sleep every night was that of Barbara Jagger's the minute he closed his eyes, size really didn't matter. "So...what do you want me to do? Shut down all the lights so you can perform an exorcism?" he asked.
It sounded weird even coming out of his mouth, but he decided just to roll with it. It was the first offer of help he'd gotten and he'd learned never to turn down any kind of help. "Because the second I do that, it's gonna get hairy," he pointed out. "You might wanna help me clear out as many of the Taken as possible before you even try trapping anything. I've found out that the more Taken you kill, the more pissed off it gets."
And it had to be weak - he'd defeated it and as far as he knew, Alice was safe. Not knowing how long he'd been trapped in the dark place, he wasn't sure how safe, but if a lot of time had passed, he hoped she'd just moved on and had forgotten all about him. If this thing was going to be haunting him for the rest of his life, he wanted to make sure no one he knew would be getting in its way.
