Who: Everyone!
What: Party/ Morale boost attempt
Where: Stark Tower
When: BACKDATED: Sunday Night
Rating: TBD
Progress: Open/Ongoing

Unlike the previous parties at Stark Tower, this one was noticeably less extravagant. For the night the security of the elevator has been removed, allowing partygoers to enter only the first floor of the tower. The entire level is decorated with simple red and gold lights, the atmosphere more like that of a lounge than an actual party. There is an ample amount of seating, from tables and chairs to plush couches and love seats. Unlike the previous Stark extravaganza, there are no waiters or servers walking around to serve drinks, but on the far wall is an open bar with an automated dispensing system in placement of a bartender. On the opposite wall are tables and booths for more private conversations, and the dress is casual. The event, in all, is much more intimate and 'cozy' than previous Stark gatherings.

(Please put the rating and status (open/closed and those involved) of your thread in the heading. Thanks!)

She finally had her own apartment in this god forsaken city, having recently escaped her prison/safe haven that was the tower, and here she was, right back where she started. Why she did these things to herself was beyond her, but Jean was quickly realizing that, in a place like this, it was easy to get lonely. And she was. Lonely. After receiving an invitation she had argued with herself for a few hours whether she would attend or not, and, of course, decided that she wouldn't, because going to a party filled with strangers was absolutely ridiculous and just asking for awkward situations to happen.

And yet here she was. Sitting in a chair that seemed to swallow her up. With a drink that a machine made for her in her hand. It was tasty, admittedly, but at what cost? (No cost, actually, the bar was free) Now she was forced to make awkward eye contact with people that she didn't know, her introverted lifestyle too much to overcome when it came to situations like these. There were a lot of pretty faces, at least. Always a silver lining.

So far fewer people had shown up to Tony's party, including the billionaire himself. Steve could only assume that it was due to his overwhelming desire (or need, perhaps) to make a grand entrance and steal the show. They called it fashionably late in this era; it was called rude in his own.

As he surveyed the room he noted a new visitor, the woman who never knew his name (American Guy did not count) but felt perfectly comfortable asking for a gun. That took guts and a certain amount of guts; as far as he knew she hadn't drawn it on anyone. Since she'd moved out of the tower it wouldn't hurt to check on her, to make sure she was doing well, all things considered. She could always dismiss him if she wanted.

So he approached her directly, not trying to startle her and taking the opportunity to see if she even cared to speak with anyone. He wasn't planning to take her evening anyway.

"Ma'am. Glad to see you out and about," he said and he meant it. Maybe if she met others she might feel a little better about things.

Jean had been so soaked into her people watching that she didn't see the man walking over her until he was a few feet away. She did a little double-take, sure that she saw that face somewhere before, but it wasn't until he finally spoke that she remembered. Right. The American bloke with the star spangled tights. At least he wore normal clothing at parties.

"Thank you, Mr. Rogers, I appreciate it." She was a little proud of herself for remembering his name; she had never been a comic book person, but the movie was good. Until she was living in it, that is. They had never spoken face to face before, so she offered her hand to shake his, being a strong believer in proper introductions. "Jean Watson, by the way. I don't think we've properly met." She let her hand fall to her side, turning to pick her drink up from the side table before facing him again. "You know, from rumors I've heard of Mr. Stark and the size of his tower I expected something much more..." She trailed off, wondering how to word herself, before giving him and finishing, bluntly, "obnoxious."

She continued quickly to talk over the awkward word pause. "So how long have you been here? In this place?" She had gestures weakly with her glass, but continued, a bit more specifically, with, "I mean, this version of New York. Or... wherever we are now. A while? Oh-" In that moment she realized that, perhaps, he had just approached her to say hello, and she might have been trapping him in a conversation that he wasn't exactly willing to have. Not that she cared. She needed people to bloody talk to in this place, but the least she could do was make sure he was comfortable as she forced him into an interaction. "Do you want to sit?" Another gesture, this time to the seat that was across from hers.

She knew his name, which was unsurprising. Many people did, but he was pleased that she used it rather than some other nickname like people were prone to do. "A pleasure to meet you, Dr. Watson," he replied as he shook her hand. No doubt she withstood some teasing about her name as he did; Steve was familiar with certain books with a leading character of a similar name, same title that she carried- only that was a man named John, and they were very different.

Then again there had been a female Tony Stark.

No matter, he wasn't going to say anything teasing about it, not like others were prone to doing. "If the city was as it used to be, this party would have been obnoxious. It's only because there's so few of us here. Give it time, when we make friends with the surrounding villages that might change." Probably not with strippers though. "I'm surprised he isn't here yet."

Steve accepted the invitation to sit and did so, glad as ever to offer information to someone new. "I've been here close to six months," he explained. "It was strange when I arrived, and hasn't stopped yet. People have come and gone- vanished without a trace. No one knows why or how, no one knows who has brought us here or what their reasons might be. All we can do is work together and try to survive. You're military, so your skills will be useful."

She sat when he did, looking pleased that he accepted the offer. At least she had someone to talk to now. Information was obviously a necessity when it came to this situation and she was completely in the dark; unacceptable. She knew what he was saying, having read back in the network as far as it would allow, but hearing him say it aloud was admittedly unsettling. So she might disappear tomorrow without any idea where she'd go. Brilliant. She finished her drink.

"My military days were a bit ago but I can still shoot a gun." She cracked a smile. "And I'm a damn good doctor, if I do say so myself." Her eyes moved around the room before back at the mans face, studying him a bit. She wished she could do what her flatmate back at home did; look at him and know his life story, from his parents to what he had for dinner three months ago, but sadly it wasn't an ability she possessed. She did remember seeing the movie when it was released, however. She briefly wondered how the poor bloke could even live in a tower like this without waking up in confusion every day. Even she didn't understand how half of the stuff at the bar worked, and this was just one floor.

"Military man yourself, correct?" She smiled apologetically, as she supposed she should have done when assuming something that was correct. "Sorry. ...The movie and all. Must be strange, having something like that about your life... publicized."

"A doctor? We have a few of those, so I think you might be comfortable here," he commented as he relaxed a little bit. "One of them is on my team." Perhaps she'd eventually become comfortable here, perhaps not. Maybe if she gained allies she'd feel less like a stranger, she clearly had skills that could benefit the group as a whole, and they could help her in return.

And then she mentioned the movies. "You assume correctly, but I haven't seen the movies. Heard about them though." Actually one of them sat near the television in his apartment in the tower, he just hadn't brought himself to watch it yet. So many memories, some of them still fresh and painful. He'd watch it one of these days, and each day he got just a little closer to it.

"During the war my life was very public. There were comics and stage shows and movies, and always interviews. I was a symbol, and they wanted the people to see it all. Couldn't deny them that, and if it brought hope to people, then part of my job was done." It just got old after a while, and eventually he tried not to participate in interviews and such, but it always seemed to happen anyway.

"I guess you saw the movie?"

"I wasn't comfortable around other doctors when I was back home let alone here." She cracked a smile, but her attention suddenly perked when he mentioned his teammate. "Doctor Banner, you mean! Yes, I've met him. He's a good man." She paused. "And he wasn't nearly as green as I thought he would be but I suppose that's a good thing."

She listened closely as he explained himself, and at his question, she spoke before thinking. "Yeah, it was bloody brilliant, special effects were amazing and the explosions-" Her eyes widened, suddenly, and a hand was brought to her mouth to silence herself before removed to unleash a quick rant of apology. "I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it like that, it must have been very- I couldn't imagine. ...Well, I could, I could imagine, that's why I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that your life was entertaining, or entertainment, I just meant that it was an impressive film because you're an impressive group of people-"

She stopped suddenly, her face stricken with embarrassment before she finally set her drink down. She had enough of those for tonight. "...I'm sorry." She spoke calmly now. "That was... wrong of me and I don't know what I was thinking. ...Yes, I saw the movie, and your team was very impressive in it. ...And I'm sorry it happened to all of you." She added the last part on weakly, lamely, with the sudden urge to curl up under the chair she sat in and hide until he left. Because apparently, talking to normal people after living with Sherlock Holmes was much more complicated than she originally thought. To be fair though, he was a god damned superhero.

"...I was shot once."

Her face was burning now. "Just... you know, now you know something about me that I don't like talking about either. So... okay, we're not even, but it's a start? Can you please stop me from talking because this really is getting worse with every passing second and I don't seem to know how to stop it."

"Doctor Banner is a good man," Steve said and grinned when she mentioned that he wasn't very green. "That's a very good thing, and he does try to keep it to a minimum." It wasn't that the other guy wasn't needed or wasn't useful, but it was clear that the good doctor wasn't trying to enjoy his company all that much, and that was something the soldier could understand.

At the mention of the movies and her excitement about them he looked down, the smile fading to something smaller but not uncomfortable. People seemed to have loved the movies, and one day he'd have to resolve to sit down to watch them. One day, but probably not this one. "Doctor, it's okay. It's our lives, yes, but some of us led very public lives before then. Tony loves the attention, and I got used to it during the USO tours. Some of us were known to others through books, television, or movies. Your name is similar to one from books too, and I wouldn't be surprised if they asked you about it." The stories were classic literature and popular even in his day, but he couldn't say that he'd spent a great deal of time reading them all. His interests ran toward the more... tactical and strategic sort of reading.

She rambled though, and it amused him until she confessed a secret of sorts, and for that he felt bad. "Ma'am, you didn't have to tell me that," he offered softly, hoping to reassure her. "I won't ask you about it. You'll get used to us in time, we're not all bad people. It's an interesting group, but you're safe around these people. You might not get alone with other doctors, but you were a soldier once. We can always use more of those too."

Anna wasn't certain why she was there. It was probably just a reason to get out and wear a dress for a change as much as it was a reason to watch over the other transplants. Even though none of the previous parties had been crashed by outside forces, she figured there would always be a first time. And if that happened, she didn't think it could hurt for at least one angel to be there. Even in a group of real-life superheroes.

However, having been an angel for quite some time, she found she didn't really know what to do at parties either. She found herself wandering the crowd, mostly. It felt more like a patrol, but she felt that if she found a conversation she had an interest in, she would partake in it. That had to be the angel portion of her brain speaking, she realized.

The fact that she bumped into someone however, was definitely enough to make her feel human. She didn't even think to be humiliated. "Sorry," she said with a smile. "I guess I'm not all that used to walking in heels anymore."
