None of what was said gave Steve any sort of comfort or confidence, and he could do nothing but hope that such situations didn't arise. Raising a weapon against an angel? Now that was a complicated issue that he'd think on later, but not right now.
"Well, I couldn't stand by and watch them attack you or her. You've both defended all people from threats. That's good and noble in my book, it should be in theirs." The only hesitation came not from the idea of defending his new friends (even if he hadn't met Anna yet), but from the possibility of becoming the enemy of angels. With his upbringing it was not something lightly done, something condemning. Something he'd have to think carefully on later.
For now though he could agree with sticking with vampires, shape shifters, and whatever other creatures waited for them in the woods that now surrounded the city.
"They have been the more immediate threat, but the city seems empty now," he stated. It was clear that the transplants seemed alone in the city now, even if the necessities were still somehow cared for. "We will face new threats, and some of our people have already wandered beyond the city limits. We should find out what's out there, because their curiosity is going to bring them straight to us too. We'll need to prepare a defense strategy, we're vulnerable right now." And that was not a feeling that settled well with the captain; it was doubtful that it settled with anyone else either.
