Lizzy stared out the window for office of the tense look on her face. She never honestly thought she did and up here, with a bodyguard and a stalker outside of her office. Sure, she had done more than a few things that upset organized crime in Gotham, that there had never been in a real threat her personal safety. In fact, if Dick had not agreed that the man had been following her, she might have completely ignored it, chalking up to just imagining things. After all, she was just the ADA that prosecuted small time crooks and organized crime lackeys. Not that she would mind getting our hands on our real case, one that would put her in the spotlight and help forward her dreams to take over the district attorney’s office.
She was certainly grateful that Dick had let her stay last night. It had been completely innocent. In fact, she had slipped in one of the well-appointed guest rooms at Wayne Manor. Dick had even had his new butler escort her to her room so there were no questions of impropriety. While there was a small hint that they could have slept together that night, Lizzy liked him too much to do that. Sex changed things. Sex changed people. Right now, when it came to this, she would rather see where it would end up.
Besides, her life seemed even more and more dangerous. She never had any reason to be afraid before. Now gazing down the street, she wondered if the man was out there. She wondered if the man had somehow found a way to give into her apartment. It was a strange sense of feeling violated. Even here in her office, she didn’t feel safe. She knew that too many of her coworkers were dirty. There were moles and people on the payroll of the various gangs at every level of City Hall. It seems those with the highest conviction rates were there because cases against the higher up’s in criminal organizations seem to somehow disappear as if the case files never existed.
She turned her desk, and pushed the intercom button. “Debbie, can you bring in any of the files we’ve worked in the past year involving the Cosa Nostra?” She was curious, maybe she just missed something maybe there was a connection that she just didn’t remember.
Her secretary only brought in a couple of files. “Ms. Lizzy, these are the only two I found, but both of them were dismissed because either the police botched the evidence, are we ran out of witnesses.”
“You know, it would be nice for someone to have at least a good reason to want to kill me.” Lizzy sighed, and sat down to the desk. She had a meeting and less than 30 minutes. “Can you please call and make sure have an escort down to the Crane Building?” She had given a card for the firm that was currently guarding her to her assistant earlier that day. While the threat of being attacked in broad daylight while heading to one of the most exclusive office buildings in Gotham was rather remote, she wasn’t taking any chances. For the moment, she was done risking her life. She had too many things to accomplish and far too many people she could not disappoint.
Down on the street, however, there was a man who had a different idea. He sat outside of corner coffee shop, and though it looks like he was reading the newspaper, he was in fact watching the buildings for her. Gio "Nine Volt" Acerbi was an expert. Although he had no idea why the boss wanted this particular dame taken down, she was pretty and he would enjoy doing it. She was probably scream loudly, and that would make you want to hurt her even more. Unfortunately, her wealthy boyfriend had put some heavy muscle on her, said he’d have to be tricky. However he’d never lost a target and he wasn’t going to start now. This uppity bitch would get what was coming to her, he would guarantee it.
