The fact that Dick was drinking water and not booze was something Lizzy filed away. Not that she was a huge drinker, but clearly there was something going on here, and she would need to remember that in future social occasions so that she made sure to provide appropriate beverages. She was always unfailingly considerate when it came to those things, especially if she thought that Dick might be an alcoholic.
She took the champagne glass from his hand and listened keenly as he talked, her whole attention focused on him. "Well, the D.A.'s office is extremely dirty, just like most of this city. I would always appreciate the support when the time comes." She reached out and gently touched his arm to emphasize her point. "I really think with the right people, we could focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment and turn this city around."
"So, what have you been doing since you left the force, Dick?" She was eager to talk about him, and not herself. She really didn't think her life was terribly noteworthy - she was just another rich girl who managed to ride her father's name into a job, after all. "Did you go to work for your father?"
