He stroked her cheek with his thumb, smiling softly, then turned and looked out over the property, the dark shadows of the trees looming large. It felt secure to him, but then this had been his home for a long time, and the shapes were familiar.
He put his hands in his pockets and stepped to the edge of the patio, not really having any words at the moment. Scanning the edge of the property, looking in the direction of the old shed where his telescope sat unattended, then at the ground in front of him.
Dick closed his eyes. He felt so much weight lately. So much responsibility. It should have crushed him, defeated him, sent him packing to Arkham or running away from the city again.
He hadn't been defeated. He had Tim and Cass. Tam shared the burden of their secret now. Proxy kept her vigil.
