Come into my secret lair
Who: Tam Fox NPCs: Lucius Fox Where: Wayne Tower When: Friday, October 5 What: Tam finally learns the real scope of her job Rating: G
It was weird calling your father and one of your best friends both “Boss,” but Tam was slowly adjusting. She truly was thriving at Wayne Enterprises. She had enough structure that were clear expectations, but she still had significant freedom to pursue projects that interested her, that made her excited and that she thought were beneficial to the community or the company. However, her father had asked to have a meeting with her in her office – the same office that used to be his office. There were ghosts of her father everywhere, even if he was no longer occupying the space. Most of her staff had once been in his direct employ, so there was a certain level of trying to live up to his shadow.
Always prompt, her father showed up at exactly 9:30. He shut the door and closed the blinds to her windows. Tam quirked an eyebrow, and started wondering if she had done something wrong. Her father then walked over to a small device that was installed on her desk that blocked out any attempt to record conversations, which were fairly standard operation procedures for a research and development team. After all, one had to protect trade secrets.
“Tamera,” her father said, after going through all of the security protocols. “It’s time that you learn what being the head of Applied Sciences really means.” He walked over and touched a space in the molding of her glass and steel bookshelves that were recessed against the wall, and a retina and fingerprint scanner slid out. After authenticating himself, slowly, the bookshelf swung open to reveal a ramp leading down. “Welcome to the top secret experimental technology division, where we equip an elite team of crime fighters against the world.”
Tam’s eyes wandered the room and her jaw literally dropped. It was like wonderland for geeks. If she thought the labs in the general applied sciences division were high tech, this was truly a masterpiece. She slowly wheeled around, taking in everything. “So, did Uncle Bruce know about this?” she asked in a hushed voice. “Uncle Bruce,” her father said, pausing for a moment, remembering his lost friend. “Uncle Bruce was Batman. And you are now learning the family secrets that are passed down from me to you, like crime fighting has been passed down from Bruce to Tim and Dick. They fight crime, and we give them the tools so they have the upper hand.”
It took a few moments for that to all sink in. Tim and Dick were vigilantes? Uncle Bruce was Batman? There was so much that she had to learn now, so much that she had to figure out. Her father gave her a moment and then led her over to the communication console, pointing out the various communication methods, research tools, and secure phones and handsets. There were several slots, including one that said “Fox.” It was small, sleek and looked a bit like a makeup compact. “I designed it for you. You can hide it easily, but it’s still very powerful. There is a small ear piece and microphone on the bottom. You will have to be ‘on call’ quite a bit for the boys.”
Tam nodded and smiled. “Well, then, they better come up with a cool code name for me.”
