It was the first night out with his new baby - a red and black Kawasaki Ninja 300. But first, work called. That was all Aidan did since moving to Gotham City. Forensic pathologist, CSI, squint, lab rat, evidence snatcher - he was fine with the nicknames.
There was a soft buzz about the lab and the like over some public figure/billionaire/washed-up playboy/philanthropist getting shot and killed in an alley. But Aidan didn't pay any attention to it. He wasn't a detective and he liked it that way. It meant fewer people to put up with or look in the eye. Ever since he woke up in that hospital six years ago, Aidan always felt a bit apprehensive about looking people too long in the eye or having his personal space compromised.
"See you later. Yeah, I know. I'm on call. No problem," Aidan called over his shoulder as he zipped his riding jacket with one hand and lugged his helmet with the other. Making his way to the parking garage, he smiled. He was almost giddy at the prospect of speeding through the streets with practically no one around.
Donning his helmet, he brought his bike roaring to life and sped out of the garage. He surfaced out of the darkness and into the street-light. Onto the light-bathed and rain-soaked streets, Aidan moved through Gotham City. At times, he gazed at the rooftops as if he was looking for something or a flair off a dark metallic surface caught his eye.
Casting off water with a splash, Aidan stopped alongside an electronics store. His reflection flickered, merged, and flickered back with the translucent images from flat-screen televisions bouncing off the glass storefront. There were the images of Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Gotham City. Shrugging what weird feeling he was getting (like someone was watching him), Aidan raced off into the night. Off to home.
