After doing several reports, filing even more e-mails, and hounding Jack every time she saw him (naturally in a professional manner) Harleen got her second interview with Calendar Man. At this point she had been the only resident doctor that had achieved something of that nature and she had been extremely proud of that feat, perhaps even getting a bit of a large ego over it.
Hey, what was the fun of it if you couldn't at least get to be better than someone else while doing it?
Nonetheless today was the day and she had been prepared for it. In fact she had gotten up at four in the morning to do an early morning run and workout, got to work an hour early, and had even gotten all her paperwork done for the day like a good little soldier laying in wait for Jack to give her the go ahead.
Then she waited.
And waited.
And waited.
That being said, Jack had been running a bit late and looked a little frazzled when he finally showed up to find Harleen. She had been drumming her fingers against her desk, zoning into her cutesy kitten background on her computer when he spoke. "You ready for this Quinzel?"
Apparently there had been something going on downstairs in the basement with one of the other inmates. For the most part, all of those were off limits. No one got to speak with them, read their files, or even get close to a twenty yard radius of them unless they were a tenured doctor here.
Instantly she turned around with clipboard, recorder, and pen in hand with a beaming smile. "Why, Jack, I never thought you would ask." She stood up, adjusting her red shift dress and followed behind him quietly. That is, as quietly as stilettos could lead her behind him.
"Alright, like we discussed your lead and intuition was good on this. You were right about the deaths and it looks like he talks to you, maybe more than some of the others will listen. I'm sending you in alone without an escort this time but a guard will still be present. Hope you got it cause here you are kid." He nodded to the door before slouching off to the next doorway so he could watch behind the glass.
Harleen didn't have time to ask any other questions but just jumped into what needed to be done. She took a deep breath and gripped the handle on the door, hesitating a moment before making her way inside. She smiled towards the occupant in the room as she closed the door behind her and settled in at the steel table bolted down in the middle.
"Good afternoon Julian. It is nice to see you again." She sounded genuine but Julian narrowed his eyes at her, seeming a little more irritable today than he had been before.
"A-Afternoon, doctor? Evening. Morning. Noon. Night. Never enough for you all." He frowned as he rocked lightly in his chair, not making eye contact with Harleen but instead eying the security guard in the room. "It is all the s-same in here. Caged like b-birds, unable to fly. Unable to escape. No day is sacred, no time like the present."
Harleen wasn't able to make out what he was saying as she eyed him curiously. What was going on today in this place? Apparently agitation was contagious. "There are sacred days, Julian, however they are different for every person."
His eyes flickered back to hers, seeming to burn with frustration now. "D-different to e-everyone!?" He simmered momentarily, eying the guard again before leaning into her, with a dead stare. "The fifth of the first. Bulgaria. Mali. You. Me. We are all d-different but we are the same. You're just l-like me. You can't see it yet, but I can. They all will. Then we will celeb-brate together. You will know."
Harleen froze where she sat across from him, hands planted flat on the table while she listened to Julian rant but it wasn't making any sense, none of it. She was just about to speak again when Julian fought against his restraints and angrily begun to shout. "You'll see. You will a-all see. We cannot hide from out futures, d-days cannot be change!"
At that point the security guard moved in and from behind the door came several other employees that helped restrain him. Quinzel was pulled out of the room promptly and the interview had been ended just as quickly as it had begun. She stood dumbfounded outside the room as Jack approached her, looking more wary than when he had disappeared the first time.
"Sometimes I think there is something in the water. They all just have those days." He paused before nodding for them to walk up together. "He seems to listen to you. A lot of people around here do. You are the only female doctor we've introduced for a while and you have something about you." He made a face indicating it wasn't really what he meant, but he looked scatter brained.
"It's alright, Jack. I appreciate it and understand what you mean. I'm sorry I couldn't get anything else out of him. It all sounded like gibberish.."
He nodded as they had made it to her desk and it looked as though a light bulb had went off in his head. "I may have someone new for you to speak with though. He hasn't been responding to any of the other male doctors we have assigned and frankly, I think we need some new eyes on him. May be a lost cause... but, I'll send you the file on him by tomorrow." He nodded, contemplating for a moment as he began to walk away.
What was this, crazy day? Nothing seemed to be making sense at the moment. As he walked away she called out after him. "What's his name, boss? The one you want me to look at?
"He doesn't have a name. Just goes by The Joker." He didn't look back as he was walking, but followed up further, "Oh and send me a report on the Day interview."
Harleen sat down in her chair in a huff. What interview? Her mind had been reeling from everything that had just happened before it had finally processed what he had said first. Did he just say The Joker?
