Who: Sophie Roper & Andrew McPhail When: Sunday, November 12th Where: St. Mungo's What: Awakening from an Accident Rating: Low
It had started out like any other day. Sophie had gone into work to try and stay above water, a seemingly impossible task with the Minister still in Mungo's. She'd been working for a few hours when someone walked into her office, angry and up in arms about the new regulations for magical creature eggs, Sophie couldn't quite catch which kind. The man was livid, screaming and cursing at her while she tried to calm him, but there was no calming someone in such a rage.
Sophie had tried to tell the man the Minister was out, but he wasn't listening. Before she could react, before she could even think to defend herself, the man had pulled out his wand and hexed her. His rage was so powerful that it threw Sophie out of the window overlooking the atrium. She screamed as she burst through the glass, crying out as she fell down onto the fountain. And then, it all went black.
Hours had passed. Sophie was unconscious, at the mercy of the Healers and their staff. Her skin was covered with cuts from the glass, her right arm broken, her head wrapped in a thick bandage. But it was her legs that worried them the most. Try as they might, Sophie's legs seemed to be unmoving. Spells and enchantments were applied, each more tedious and drawn out than the last, but there was nothing to be done.
Six hours after her arrival, a Healer stepped into the hall, her face troubled. "Mr. McPhail," she called and then smiled sadly as Andrew approached. In hushed tones, the Healer explained the situation. "We believe that Ms. Roper struck her spinal cord on the fountain." She continued, explaining that Sophie would heal, the cuts and flesh wounds would just need time, but the injury to her spinal cord appeared to be permanent. It was uncertain if Sophie would be able to walk again.
Sophie would be waking up soon, the potions administered to keep her sedated would be wearing off. The Healer suggested it would be better for Andrew to break the news to his girlfriend. With a hand on his shoulder, the Healer shook her head and walked off.
